The following is my advice to them: Itj has been said that the success of the negroe's advance ment does not lie in politics nor evenalougj political lines. The last and ever ipemorable content has proven th statement true. The negro, if he will succeed,, must turn his attention elsewhere. The industrials intellectual, moral and religious development cannot be over estimated. Usese furnish solidity to race building. The last political contest bo far as the ne gro is concerned, has proven poli tics to be rolling sand, which the least rain can wash away. From my observation the v negro must seek other doors to powers-toon and glory. We may as welLadjust ourselves to the situation at once, and, how "good contentment is great gain," No time for hosting, no time for anything that excites and inflames prejudice, no time, (o measure arms and try stei.gth. This is a time for subduing pass ions for calm thought, cool judg ment, wise counsel, peaceful ac tions, that peace may spread its wings from mountain to sea and embrace eachof our citizens, white and black alike. Let usal! have a pride for our glorious old State a'nd seek to ,de velope its resources, cultivate its fertile acres, discover its many hid den treasures consecrate it to an intellegent, law-abiding people. Do'nothing to precipitate confu sion or riot. Words have created more trouble thau any one thing. There are times when, silence is golden. This is one of the times. Cool-headed men of tp race come to the front and take the lead in advauce in this hourof gloom, that rest and tranquility may be restor ed and bloodshed cease. Let us direct ourattention to true educa tion, true industry and good morals Let the white people have cam paigns and officers and we get what of education, money and Christ we can. This I am sure will bring no trouble, no blood. Men and measures and not party for the negro any more. Joseph Perry. .
