THE TEN COMMANDMENTS 1 must add another word about The Ten Commandments, and the word; of one I admire greatly: "Christian goodness, which at its best, is the most perfectly beautiful thing that has ever b?en produced upon earth .was and is based by our Lord and Master upon The Ten Commandments. "These Commandments are no arbitrary laws laid down by an ab solute king for the preservation of His own honor and glory and th" .naintenance of His own dignity. God has no dignity exccpt the dig nity of utter humility which is the only real dignity there is. "Then Ten Commandments nr. laws of love, and are, therefor:-, t<' be taken as the necessary basis of human perfection. To disobey them is to sin against our own nature, which does indeed rob God of His glory, for Gods glory is n-ans per fection. To disobey them is to lay ourselves open to spiritual disease, to corruption of the mind and of the moral nature. Disobedience to them brings it own punishment, because it puts us out of harmony with reality and ultimately leads to our lives becoming a living lie." In these days when the old fash ioned conventions are all being i broken down, people imagine that1 you can break The Commandments! as you break the conventions, j Nothing can be more untrue. The] conventions are very largely temper- i arv in their nature .made to meet special but passing needs. "To break The Copimandments in wrong deed is to shake the eternal moun tains and dim the steady shining of the everlasting stars. It is to rebel against the universe which is of all rebellions the most futile and pa thetic." "You can no more moderize the! Decalogue than you can vulgarize j the sea. You may build youij shanties of shallow thinkHig and j passion on the shore, but sooner or ; later the tide of the Eternal Truths; will come and break your Jim-crack j speculations into bits ,and you will j seek for refuge in the Haven of ' Gods Law." j A PRAYER FOR KEEPING i THE TEN COM MAN DM EN TS > 0 Thou, who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be; equal with God, but made Thyself j r>f no reputation and took upon Thee! GLADE CREEK NEWS j Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Reeee, of Ashe-' ville, visited Mr. and Mrs. J. A. j Reece recently. The elder Mr. Reeee! accompanied his son home, and ex- 1 pects to remain in Asheville where! he will take treatment for eyej trouble. j Jake Parris and H. Hedrick killed | art extra large hog last week. J. M. Drake is able to be out again after having been ill. Mrs. C. Rhodes, who has been suf fering from rheumatism, is re ported improving. No cases of chicken pox have been reported in this community. Misses Fioiunce Tipton of Pis gah Forest, and Miss Ara Strickland of Davidson River werd dinner guests of Miss Rosa Wolfe, last Fri day. A group <>f Pamlico County hog growers sold 0,000 pounds coopera tively last week at a net price of S3. 05 a hundred. . i Over 200 acres of permanent pas-j ture was planted in Johnson County! last spring and additional plantings j are being made this spring. j The Catham County farm agent reports 12 colts being grown by far mers of the county this year and says there is considerable interest now in raising more work stock at home. | NOTICE OF SALE !
