FARM QUESTIONS QUESTION: What is the right amount of grain to feed dairy ani ) mals during the winter months? ; ANSWER: This depends upon the’ : amount of milk the animal is pro ducing and to' a lesser extent upon the breed. With Jersey animals pro ducing less than ten pounds of milk no grain should be fed. Where the production is above ten pounds six tenths of a pound of grain should be , added to the ration for each pound 1 cf milk produced in excess of the ten pounds. The grain supplement is reduced about one-tenth from this amount for Guernseys producing more than 12 pounds a day, and one fourth for Holsteins producing 16 pounds a day. The grain ration of I course is dependent upon a plentiful . supply cf good legume hay, other wise the grain ration will have to be : increased.
