Parrish, extension pout t try man at North Carolina State Cob le**, advsies North Carolina far* mers tq purchase North Carolina chicks. The buying of high grade chicks, free from taints of diseases, is ono of the most important factors in start ing the season off right, he said. Special care should be exercised to guard against chicks which have been infected with bacillisry white diarrhea. Purchasers who get their chicks from North Carolina breeders and hatcheries are playing safe, he said. And to make sure that the chicks are not infected with the diarrhea, they should buy only those from stock that has been blood-tested. Reports on the livability of 81, 846 chicks from State-tested flocks show that 94.2 per cent Jived through the first four weeks of brooding. Mr. Parrish advised poultrymen to consult their county agents or write to him at State College for a list of the hatcheries operating under the supervision of the state department of agriculture and offering chicks from flocks tested by the depart ment.
