To The Voters Of
Transylvania
County
For Tax Collector
Vote For
LEM BROOKS
As most of the people know
I am a son of the late Dr. Whit
field Brooks, born and raised in
Transylvania County, a life
long Democrat. 1 have never
missed an election since old
enough to cast a vote, and T be
lieve in a fair and square deal.
I have made my campaign in a
clean and quiet manner, alone
and above-boar-l, and I hu'o not
gone outside i f the Democratic
party to solicit support, ei!net
in person or by absentee, and l
have conducted my campaign
in a way that I have not im
personated any other candi
date. Inasmuch as there is a re
port out with the intent to in
jure me in the coming primary,
I wish to state to the voters
and the people as a wind-* that
no man or woman, either Demo
crat or Republican. ha< gone
with me to any section of the
county, as has been falsely
stated by some one not at the
time that was known to me.
Inasmuch as I have conduct
ed a clean above-board cam
paign. I ask the people and
voters of the county not to be
lieve anything they hear and
about half what they see, for
they have been misinformed
regarding the length of time
my opponent. O. I- Erwin, has
served the people in public ol
fice. for he has now served the
people in public office four
years. I think according to the
rule of the Democratic Party,
four years is sufficient for any
one man to serve in public of
fice.
I therefore solicit your sup
port in the coming Primary.
Yours very truly,
LEM BROOKS

WIN OVER CAMP 14
——- - < i
Lieutenant O’Neal’s baseball nine
from Gloucester CC camp broke the
winning streak of John’s Rock Sun
day afternoon in what turned out to
be a one-sided score of 12-4.
Five straights had been taken by
Lt. Drennon’s John Rockers, including
a previous game with Gloucester.
Heads-up ball was played by both
teams until the seventh inning when
the Gloucester nine pounced on the
Shoupe-Jugtus battery offerings for
a bevy of bits, which coupled with a
few miscues started a run making
rally that continued through the
seventh and the fateful eighth, run
ning the score from 6-3 to 12-4.
Curry, young chap with a good de
livery and cool head did good mound
work'for Gloucester through the sixth
inning, being replaced by Linsey. Car
li s Morris was on the receiving end.
In additi! n to his mound work, young
Curry also connected for a clean
dnubie in the seventh with two men
on. Justus, catcher for Johns Rock,
war outstanding player on his team.

Elimination of infectious diseases.
A lengthening of the average life

Airplanes operated from stations

Reduced Your Taxes
For the last two years, during which time the present
Board of Commissioners has been in control of the
county’s finances, not one dollar has been borrowed,
and in addition, the tax valuation of property haa been
reduced fifty per cent, and an additional reduction in
the tax rate has been made, so that the taxpayers of
Transylvania County have had their taxes reduced 60
per cent since 1930.
The bonded indebtedness of the County has been
reduced $16,000.00 In addition over $24,000,000 has
been paid on interest coupons as well as numerous
current bills have been paid in the past two year3.
The present Board of Commissioners point with
pride to the fact that during the greatest depression
which this country has ever known, that they have
been able to carry on the business of Transylvania
County and have not added one cent of indebtedness,
and that they have been able to reduce the bonded
debt considerable, and have paid the above -stated
amount on interest, and at the same time have been
able to reduce the taxes as above stated. This has been
done by the Commissioners through economical man
agement of the County’s finances.
And furthermore, the present Board of Commission
ers made possible the payment of collateral he'd by the
county on a fifty per cent basis which was a great sav
ing to the parties owing said notes. I will further say
that the Commissioners with the aid of a bill passed
by the Legislature, were able to purchase the Brevard
Banking company building, lot and fixtures, for the
use and benefit of the County, thereby helping both
the taxpayers and the depositors.
The taxpayers are respectfully invited and request
ed to examine the records and see where the present
Board of Commissioners has saved the taxpayers a
considerable amount of money, as well as managing
the County in a proper and satisfactory nrianner.
Yours truly,
W. L. AIKEN,
Chairman Board
Commissioners.
