SMALL FOX IS PET OF ROSMAN WOMAN Most folks have become familiar with a woman carrying around a Persian kitten or fuzzy poodle for a pet, but when one comes t,o town stroking a two-months-old fox that’s a diuerent story. Wherever Mrs. Wm. Brittan of Rosman went Wednesday she had a curious crowd looking over the keen little fellow who seemed to enjoy being the center of attraction in n de partment store us much as “Old Brer' Pox” enjoys throwing a pack of dogs off his trail in the piney woods. Mrs. Brittain too khirn over before, his eyes were open and has fed him I on milk and “petting” ever since. Her j husband has a fox dog and there’s no end of racket around home so she has ] decided to sel lhim to some one who i has a flair for something different j in the way of pets. | With the little fox gone she will • I still have a pet ground hog, but he ! I runs around at the end of a chain j land does not play substitute tor a “!ap-fox.” MOTOR CARS NEAR MECHANICAL APEX The 1934 motor cars are more near-1 lv mechanically perfect than any models thus fur brought out, in the opinion of J. F. Winchester, super viator of motor vehicle equipment loi the Standard Oil company of New, Jersey and affiliates, operators cf the I second largest fleet of passenger cars , and trucks in the country. j “Today’s automobiles can be pu* on the road immediately upon taking i delivery and will run at maximum « ficiency,’’ Mr. Winchester explained. «A few years ago we often had to effect various mechanical changes before we were satisfied to use newly purchased cars. On some models we added oil or gasoline fil ters. On others we changed the system of oil pumping, altered the gear ratios, changed the carburetor jets or did other work to bring the automo bile up to the proper standard o, j mechanical efficiency. j “With the new cars all we have to do is put a special break-in oil m the crankcase and fill the ga® tame. J* e quently we test new models in the laboratory before placing them in actual road service. After such tests • the car is observed and checked oer iodically. Our thousands of cars and trucks thus serve actually as a .ab cratory on wheels for the testing of , our products and for research woi k in connection with new^ fuel ant* lubri cation developments." The Standard Oil company of New Jersey fleet includes virtually every well known make of America1! su'e mobile. As new developments are in troduced new cars are purchased and used to determine what changes in j lubrication requirement will be called j for by the new developments. SOAP BOX DERBY TO BE IN AUGUST Dayton, 0., July 11—A three-eights mile hill in Dayton will assume na tional significance to American youth August 18-19, when the first nation ally sponsored “All-American Soap Box Derby” will be run over the bricks of Burkhardt hill. Originated as a local feature stunt last year by Myron E. Scott, Dayton Daily News photographer, the event attracted approximately 45 entrants and more than 40,000 spectators. This year, through the cooperation of Chevrolet Motor company and its dealer organization, more than 40 cities in the United States will con duct local soap box derbies and win ners will have their cars shipped here to compete for the world’s champion ship under the auspices of the Daily News and Chevrolet, Chevrolet dealers in each city are furnishing entry blanks, rule books and plans for the building of soap box racers, which are the old familiar box and wheel vehicles which at some time or other have provided trans portation for almost evpry boy. American Held In Spy Case Paris — Magistrate Ande Benion ordered Pauline Levine, 32-year-old native New Yorker, to appear for ■ questioning regarding her relation to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gordon Switz of East Orange, N. J., who have been held in a Paris jail since last Decern ber on charges of complicity with the spy ring’s activities. The Field Museum is exhibiting a slab of clay-stone only four 'by six feet in which skeletons of 25 little deer are embedded. Chemists have produced a concen trated apple juice that can be mixed with water to make a drink testing like fresh apple juice.
