CONNESTEE FALLS OPEN NEXT SUMMER < Arrangements Made Whereby Tourists May Visit the Scene Without Fee Ccnnestee Falls, one of the most _ frequented scenic spots in Western F Xbrth Carolina, will ag ain be open to the public next year, with no en trance fee charges. Arrangements are being made by the Brevard Kiwanis club to do re pairs on the guard railings that lead to the loot of the falls, and al o to provide with safety guard rails at the tep of the falls. The property is in the hands ot the trust department ot the Wachovia Bank & Trust company of Asheville, N. C., and C. N. Walker, trust offi-! cer, has kindly consented to leave the property open provided super vision is provided by the Kiwanis; club, and further, that precautions' are taken to preclude accidents there. Thcusands of visitors have visited the falls during the past two years that there have been no charges' made for viewing the high cataract,: and tlv Brevard Kiwanis club at its: meeting last Thursday expressed ap preciation to the Wachovia Bank for | generosity in assisting the commun ity in offering the added attraction to visitors without charges. WPA WORKERS WILL GET CHECKS MONDAY Over Two Hundred Will Re ceive Pay In Time For Christmas All WPA workers in the county will be paid Monday, Dec. 23, accord in' to announcement by W. h. Several complaints had been turn ed in to the mayor and 'the policemen by citizens who had been frightened or burned by fireworks, and the or der was made iast Monday night by Mayor Harris that the ordinance til ready on the books of the town b? strictly enforced. Warns Against Abuse Of City Mail Boxes Mail boxes in Brevard are for de positing mail only, and to put any foreign substance or articles other than mail in the boxes placed at various places in the town is a viol ation of the federal postal laws, and violators are subject to severe fine and penalty. Gerald Sitton, city mail carrier, re ports that frequently he finds various kinds of objects in the city collection boxes, and he issues the warning that children, and grownups too, for that matter, stop the practice. Special Session of Legislature Needed CHARLOTTE, Dec. 21—Lieuten ant Governor A. H. Graham in an address here last night called upon Governor Ehringhaus “ir the early months of the new year” to call a special session of the General As sembly to enact rocial security legis lation, set up a state alcoholic control authority ami repeal the sales tax upon essential foods. "It is niv mature opinion that the governor should call a special ses sion of the Legislature for the pur pose of enacting security legislation which will meet the fedecal require ments and thus save for our work ing people of North Carolina almost two million dollars that will be paid by the state into the federal treasury during the coming year,” declared Mr. Graham, known throughout the state as "Sandy,” who is making a strong hid for the democratic nomi nation for governor in next June’s primary. Paul Hartsell Elected Vice President Kiwanis For Year 1936 Dr. Charles L. Newland was elected president of the Brevard Kiwanis club at the weekly meeting held Thursday, and the Rev. Paul Hartsell. vice president. The new president has been active in community and civic activities for several years; serving on the board of directors of the Kiwanis club and as vice president during 1915. He is chairman of the County Board of Education, and enjoys a wide prac tice in the medical and surgical field here, being on the staff of I .day Memorial hospital. The new vice president is pastor of the Brevard Baptist church, mod erator of the Transylvania Baptist Association, and has taken an active part in community affairs during his five years of ministry here. FATHER-SON DINNER AT ROSMAN SCHOOL Boy* of Agriculture C!as*e» Give Royal Entertain ment to Father* One of the interesting events of the holiday season was the annual father-son banquet at Bowman h'gh school on Wednesday night, Dec. ’d, when members of the agriculture class entertained thei’• fathers and a number of invited guests. The program was an all-boy af fair, qnd was very appropriate as well as interesting. The string band, and Professor J. B. Jones, countv superintendent, were the only ‘Vui siuers” that took part, on the farmer lad program. Welcome address was made by Julius Tinsley, who briefly extend-1 ed the felicitations of the Young Tar Heel Farmers to the fathers and guests; Professor J. B. Jones re sponded for the visitors, and praised the hoys for the work they were doing "in furthering agriculture! in terest in the county; invocation bv Principal W. M. Hunt, with musical numbers rendered throughout the evening by Wallace Galloway, K. K. Fulton and J. C. Brcwingtnn. A delicious dinner was serveil by the home economics girls under ihi direction of Miss Green, instructor, the delicious dinner consisting of fruit cocktail, roast chicken, gravy, string beans, mashed potaloe-. hot rolls, corn sticks, butter, muilied yams, poinsetta salad, pie a' la mode, nuts, coffee, mints. The young ladies who served the guests were appropriately dressed in garments they had made in their home making classes, end wore caps and aprons of blue and gold paper, Y. T. II. !■’. colors. CCC Boys Will Get Turkey at Christmas Boys in the three Civilian Conser vation Corps camps in Transylvania county will have turkey "and fix ings” for Christmas, preparations already going forward for the festive occasion.
