Just enough rain at the right time has been perfect for the potato crop. Beans and other truck are looking good and corn too Is very promising. H. S. Parker and sons have just harvested an excellent crop of wheat. Those large shocks standing so thick on the ground look very prosperous. Their com following a crimson clover crop Is also bidding for a large num ber of bushels. \V. L. Talley Is doing considerame improvement on his house, "Penrose Cottage,” giving the front porch and other parts a general remodeling. C. W. Talley, owner of “The Kool Kablns” has already a full supply of tourists. Tourists are beginning to he seen also at other places, and all who keep these summer folks expect full houses soon. Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Roper of Pickens. S. C.. Mr. and Mrs. Furman C. Moore, and children. Helen and Lou Jean, and Mrs. Ua Preston and children, Donald Virgil and Kugene, of Spartanburg. S. Agent) The lespedeza seeded this spring Is growing now and In order to keep It growing we must keep the weeds clip ped with the mowing machine. The lespedeza is more valuable as n soil builder than the weeds and It might prove to be a way of getting a little cash from the seed. A small investment for the parts to make a seed pan to attach to the mower, when the lespedeza reaches ma turity. will save lots of seed for the smali farmer. Copeland Dies Suddenly In Washington WASHINGTON—Senator Royal S. Copeland, 69-year-old New York Demo crat and physician-legislator, died Thursday night—a victim of the over work and congressional strain against which he often had cautioned his col leagues. Death came at 7:45 p. m., at his apartment here after a sudden general circulatory collapse which was compli cated by a kidney ailment. Ills death was the second of a mem ber of congress since the session’s end. Representative Allard H. Gasque (D., S. C.,) died early Friday. Teachers of Makhach-Kala. Powell, who has been very 111 at his home here for some time, has been taken to Asheville, where he con tinues ill. Mrs. P. A. Rahn returned last week from Savannah. Ga., where she was called on account of the death of her father. Mr. Graham. We extend to her our deepest sympathy in the loss of her father. Mrs. H. F. Glenn and children, of Jacksonville, Fla., are here to spend some time at French Broad Park. "Aunt” Narclssa Rickman was the guest of Mrs. A. W. Davis and family, Sunday, H. F. Glenn left for Jacksonville, Fla., Sunday after accompanying his family to French Broad Park Saturday. We are sorry to report the death of Mrs. C. E. Blythe, which occurred last Saturday morning at three o’clock. The funeral was conducted at Pleasant Grove church at two o’clock Sunday afternoon, am^the great number who attended showed the esteem in which Mrs. Blythe was held.
