LOCAL GIRL MARRIES PI8GAH FOREST MAN Miss Lorena Galloway and Mr. Van O’Kelley were married at Pickens, S. C., Saturday, August 16, Probate Judge E. A. Lewis officiating. Mrs. O’Kelley is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Galloway, and attended Rosman school. She is employed by the Ecusta Paper corporation at Pisgah Forest. Mr. O’Kelley, son of the late Lee O’Kelley and Mrs. O’Kelley, of Pisgah Forest section, is employed by the Ecusta Paper corporation. Mr. and Mrs. O’Kelley will reside near Pisgah Forest. KILL DOG BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN MAD A dog believed to have been mad, was killed in Rosman Tuesday by Chief of Police Wood and R. K. Powell. The dog was owned by Floyd Callaham. REVIVAL IN PROGRESS AT ZION BAPTIST CHURCH Revival services began at Zion Bap tist church Monday night, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. J. A, Anderson. Services are held each night at 8:30. The public is invited to attend. RETURNS FROM REVIVAL AT GLENVILLE CHURCH Rev. W. H. Nicholson returned to his home here Monday having spent several days at Glenville assisting in a revival at Glenville Baptist church. FAREWELL PARTY FOR MRS. J. E. OSBORNE The Ladies’ Bible class of the Rosman Methodist church entertained with a farewell party Wednesday night at the home of J. E. White, honoring Mis. Joe E. Osborne before leaving to join her husband in the army. The event was an entire surprise to Mrs. Osborne. Games of various kinds were played. The opening of the gifts was a high light of the evening’s entertainment. Refreshments of sandwiches, cookies and punch were served. Those present were: Mrs. Everett Whitmire, Mrs. William White, Mrs. Dock Lusk, Mrs. J. B. Rogers, Mrs. James Staton, Mrs. E. H. Davis, Mrs. Harry Morgan, Mrs. Claude Stroup, Mrs. Tom Stroup, Mrs. J. White and Braxton White and Dock Lusk. FORMER ROSMAN MAN DIES ON WAY TO MEDICAL AID Dyar Talley, 66, died near his home at Salem, S. C., Friday night, following a heart attack. Mr. Talley was stricken at his home and was being rushed to the doctor when he died in the oar before receiving medical aid. Funeral services were held Saturday at 11 o’clock at Mount Carmel church at Jocassee, S. C. Surviving relatives are the widow and ten children. Mr. Talley is a former Rosman resi dent, also a brother-in-law of Mrs. Paul Rogers, of Rosman. SINGING CONVENTION TO BE HELD NEXT SUNDAY The annual all-day singing will be held at Clenville next Sunday. E. D. Randolph, of Rosman, is president. Singers from the two Carolinas are expected to be present. An invitation is extended to the public to attend and bring lunch, as dinner will be served picnic style. Baby buggies are being rationed in England. Baptist Scouts On Week-End Outing The Baptist boy scout troop took a week-end camping- trip in Pisgah Na tional forest last week, the troop re porter has announced. Eight boys, the scoutmaster, Harold Norwood, and an assistant scoutmaster, and three guests, Alvin Moore, Hale Chamberlain, and Pendleton Banks, went on the trip. The boys took a hike to Looking Glass Rock on Saturday. They camped in Horse Cove. While on the trip Ranger J. B. Fortin gave the group a demonstration in the use of firefighting tools. The scoutmaster reported that the demonstration was very helpful. . College Sending Out Handbooks To Students 'Student handbooks are now being distributed to all students who have registered for enrollment at Brevard College this fall, Dean C. E. Buckner announced yesterday. Mr. Buckner said that the handbooks were being sent to the students at their homes in order that they might study them and become acquainted with the college program before arriving on the campus. This is the first year that Bre vard has published a student handbook, and Mr. Buckner expressed the hope that it would prove helpful to the stu dents, especially during their first few days on the campus. Cassada, treasurer; Mrs. Frank Cox, chairman', Mrs. Herman Brown, Mrs. Houston Parker, entertainment com mittee; Mrs. Horace Lyday, chairman, Mrs. H. L. Brown, Mrs. Houston Parker, Mrs. Sheldon Simms, Mrs. Fred Mof fltt, ways and means committee; Mrs. R. C. Some of the aims, as stated at the meeting, are to establish a school lunch room, to help those in need of help, and to provide entertainment for the people of the community.
