WILSON FAMILY REUNION WAS HELD LAST SUNDAY A Wilson family reunion was held last Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Wilson at Gray Court, S. C. The reunion was held in cele bration of the birthdays of W. A. Wilson, of Bervard and his moth er’s birthday. For the first time in years, the entire family was together. Mr. Wilson, Monday, returned to his work at Franklin, Va. INTERESTING MEETING OF FORTNIGHTLY CLUB An interesting meeting of the Fortnightly club was held last Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. M. G. Pangle, with Mrs. Goode Loftis as hostess. Business transactions were con ducted by the president, Mrs. Pangle, after which a program on “Stalin and Russia” was in charge of Miss Alma Trowbridge. The meeting opened with the reading of the club collect by Mrs. B. D. Franklin. Light refreshments and a social period were enjoyed at conclusion of the program. GERMANY AND ITS LEADERS TOPIC OF WEDNESDAY CLUB “Is Germany Incurable?” was the program topic at the regular meeting of the Wednesday club, which was held on the afternoon of March 24 at the home of Mrs. J. S. Silversteen. Mrs. S. A. Bullock, program leader, told of the Nazi bombastic claims to superiority and their incredible cruelty which seemed to point to insanity. Allied nations must cure and restore and the Hitler regime must be controlled, it was brought out. Mrs. A. H. Kizer spoke on the topic, “If a nation suffers from paranoia as individuals.” She pointed out that Germany’s boast came originally from an inferior complex, as shown particularly in a desire for domination. Mrs. Roy Long told of Hitler himself as showing a mentally diseased state and that his dreams have not changed as expressed in his Mein Kampf. Mrs. R. W. Everett, president, conducted the business session, which opened with the reading of the club collect and pledge by Mrs. E. J. Coltrane. The president appointed a committee of three to complete plans for a joint meet ing of the three federated clubs in May with the district presi dent. The committee includes: Mrs. Long, Mrs. H. F. Finck and Mrs. Kizer. Mrs. Keith Pooser, Girl Scout council chairman, re ported plans for a scout camp week this summer to be held at Camp Illahee, which will be at tended by national workers. Following refershments served' by the hostess, the club adjourn ed. Mrs. Mae Willman, district de puty, will act as installation of ficer, and Mrs. Minnie K. Lewis, will be installation marshal. Both district officials are from Ashe ville. FIDELIS CLASS HAS SAINT PATRICK THEME PROGRAM A program of interest featured the regular meeting of the Fidelis class of the First Baptist Sunday school, which was held last Fri day evening at the home of Mrs. I H. N. Lyda, with Mrs. Arthur Mc Crary as co-hostess. The St. Patrick theme was car ried out in the program, which was in charge of Mrs. Albert Payne. Two contest prizes were won by Mrs. Lyda, and the essay prize on “What Am I Doing To Help the War?” was won by Mrs. J. E. Metier, and another contest by Mrs. H. T. McDaniel. Mrs. Lester Martin, president, conducted routine business, which opened with devotionals led by Mrs. Harold Runion. Mrs. Runion was elected to the office of trea surer to take the place of Mrs. Mosier, who is leaving Brevard. The personal service report was given by Mrs. George Massey. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostess to the nine teen members present and one visitor, Mrs. John Jones. The next meeting will be held on the fifth Friday in April instead of the fourth in order not to conflict with the high school commencement on the usual date of meeting. MATHAT ASIAN CLUB HEARS PROGRAM ON GERMANY A program on “Is Germany In curable,” was heard at the reg ular meeting of the Mathatasian club, which was held in the ladies’ parlor of the Methodist church last Thursday afternoon with Mrs. Ralph Zachary as hostess. Mrs. Walter Duckworth, pro gram leader, told facts of interest and information from Dr. Richard M. Brickner’s book, “Is Germany Incurable?” bringing out the be lief of the author that for five decades the German nation has been suffering from a dangerous mental disease diagnosed as par anoia. In an individual this dis ease often ends in murder, and in a nation it would naturally end in war. Mrs. Walter Hart discus sed the dangers of allowing this condition to continue, and pointed out the differences between Ger man aggression and the imperial ism that other nations have per haps displayed. In the absence of the president, Mrs. Harry Sellers, Mrs. C. J. Goodwin, vice president, presided. Mrs. Oliver Orr, Mrs. Jerry Jerome and Mrs. T. G. Moody were appointed a committee to confer with the other local book clubs to decide the matter of inviting the district director here for a joint meeting with all the clubs. Mrs. Walter Duckworth, Mrs. W. P. Tindall and Mrs. Harold Norwood were named on the program com mittee for next year. Following refreshments served by the hostess, the club adjourn ed to meet in April with Mrs. Moody. SARAH TAYLOR GUILD TO MEET TONIGHT The April meeting of the Sarah Taylor Guild of the Methodist church will be held at the home of Miss Nell Miller this Thursday night at 8 o’clock. Mr. and Mrs. Crate McCall and son have returned to Clinton, Tenn., after spending a few days with relatives here. Junior is at tending school there and Mr. Mc Call has been working there. Mrs. George Orr is seriously ill at her home here. Russell Greene, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Greene, visited home folks last week. Young Mr. Greene is in the air corps of the navy, stationed at Norfolk, Va. Tom McKinney bought a large thoroughbred OIC brood sow from a farm in Henderson coun ty. Rev. J. R. Bowman will preach at Selica church next Sunday night. Walter Harbin, who is in the army stationed at a camp at Lin coln, Nebr., spent a few days with his brother, Oscar Harbin, and family recently. Mrs. Fred Mull and son, of Shel by, spent last week with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Charley Greene. Mr. and Mrs. Copa Lee and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lee, of Lake Tox away, were visitors in this section last week.
