Rosman News MRS. JORDAN WHITMIRE, Correspondent marriage announced Miss Dorothy Hunter and Cpl. Cecil Brackens were arried at ^Greenville, S. C., Easter Lunday, rApril 25th. Mr. and Mrs. Brackens left im ! mediately following the wedding [for the Brackens summer home fet Cashiers. Mrs. Brackens is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Hunter of Greenville, S. C. She is well known in Rosman, having visited her aunt, Mrs. H. G. Stophel. Cpl. Brackens is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tinsley Brackens of Greenville, S .C. He formerly re sided in Transylvania. He is in U. S. air service stationed in Louis iana. HURT IN ACCIDENT Miss LeVonne Nicholson, who suffered a severe injury to her hand in an accident last week, is recuperating at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Nichol son. Miss Nicholson received treat ment for her hand at Transylvania Community hospital in Brevard. ENTERTAIN AT DINNER Mr. and Mrs. Jordan Whitmire had as their dinner guests Sunday Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Hogsed and son, Austin, Mr. and Mi's. J. W. Glazener and daughter, Avarie, and 2. C. Glazener, of the Calvert community. i MRS. ROBINSON PASSES Mrs. Winnie Robinson, aged 53, died at h.er home at Sedro Woolly, Washington, last Tuesday following an operation. Funeral service was held Thurs day at Sedro Woolly. Mrs. Roy Aiken left Tuesday to join her husband at Detroit, Mich. Ralph Jarrett, of Avon, Fla., is spending several days here visit ing his wife and parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Jarrett. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Powell and sons, Odell and Grady Morris, and Mr. and Mrs. Grady Holcombe, of East Fork, were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Powell. Virgil Barrett of Charleston, S. C., is spending a few days visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Barrett. H. E. Mornson and daughter, Miss Delitha, were guests Sun day of the former’s son, Horace. A dinner was served in honor of the former’s birthday anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Leon McCall and son, Jr., of Pickens, Mr. and Mrs. Blake McCall and son, Robert, of Pisgah Forest were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank McCall at Cherryfield. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Reece, Jr., of Greenville, S. C., were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Reece, Sr. Martha Lee Nations is reported quite ill at the home of her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. K. Pow ell. Mr. and Mrs. Sid Justus and Mrs. Carl Justus of Edneyville and Pvt. Carl Justus, of Desert training camp, were dinner guests Sunday of Rev. and Mrs. Nathan Chapman. They were accompanied home by Rev. Chapman. Coy Whitmire, who has been ill for several days, is much im proved at his home on Church street. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Gantt and daughter. Gladys, and son Derrill, r. and Mrs. Bruce Cassell and son Benny of Cherryfield spent the week-end at Walhalla, S. C., visiting relatives. Corp. Donald Stepp of Camp McQvaide, Calif., is spending sev eral days visiting his sister, Mrs. Ethel Oates. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Smith and son, Douglas, are reported quite ill with measles at their home here. Miss Eva Israel, of Asheville College, spent the week-end visit ing her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Israel. Jerry, small son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Owen, is reported quite ill at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Manly. Rev. and Mrs. M. E. Summey and daughter, Louise, were call ed to Central, S. C., Sunday due to the illness of the former’s daughter, Mrs. Joe Rampey. ?*lrs. Summey remained to spend some time with her daughter. Clayton Arnette, of U. Miller, of Lake Toxaway, was recently married at St. Louis, Mo., to Miss Lois Kiser, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Kiser, of Fisher, 111. Donald en tered service in the air corps some time ago and has been sta tioned in Illinois since that time. At present they are making their home in Bellville, 111. SELICA NEWS (By Mrs. Ward Breedlove) Mr. and Mrs. Elijah Eubanks had as their recent visitors the former’s sisters, Mrs. Neal Hold en, of Lyman, S. C., Mrs. Minnie Reece, of Greenville, and Mrs. Louise Raines, of Brevard. Mrs. Eubanks, who was stricken with a stroke 10 months ago, remains in a critical condition. Auburn Waldrop, of Fort Jack son, was a recent visitor with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Van Wal drop. Mrs. Oscar Harbin is in a Win ston-Salem hospital for an opera tion. Mrs. Ward Breedlove, who has been in Biltmore hospital with a broken leg, is home and doing as well as could be expected, con sidering the seriousness of the fracture. Robert Rogers, who has been visiting his family here, has re turned to his job at Fletcher. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Galloway have moved to their new home here. New Rental Books At U. D. C. Brevard Negro Sees Action On Destroyer In South Pacific Clyde Jeter, well known Bre vard colored man who has been in the Navy over two years, was at Pearl Harbor when the Japs struck and since that time has seen a good deal of action in the South Pacific on a destroyer. “Those Japs don’t mean you no good.” he declared here Monday before returning to active duty. Jeter has been spending a fur lough visiting friends and rela tives. While here he was married to Martha Price, daughter of Hom er Price, of Brevard. Jeter is an officer’s steward and likes his job fine. “No, our ship was not destroyed at Pearl Harbor, but it looked like everything was going to be blown up,” he asserted. READY FOR ACTION! Henderson Emmett Whitmire, who has been in training in the United States army for several months, is now at home, having received a disability discharge. Mrs. Myrtle Lee Sitton with her baby daughter recently visited her husband’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Sitton, at Selica. Howard Jones, of Lake Tox away, spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Thomas. Mr. and Mrs. Harlow McCall and children on last Sunday visited Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie McCall, of Balsam Grove. Miss Janie Owen went to Kan napolis last week where she has employment. She is staying with her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Owen. Molly Ann McCall and Frede rick Leroy McCall, of Pisgah For est, spent the week-end with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M. O. McCall. Margaret Nell Whitmire, of Bre vard, spent a few days last week with Darline Fisher, returning a visit which Darline made to her home the first of the week. Mack Robinson was taken to a doctor at Brevard last Saturday. He had a severe pain in his side which his folk surmised to be an attack of appendicitis. Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Justice, of Edneyville and their son, Pvt. Carl Justice and his wife attended ser vices at Oak Grove Baptist church last Sunday. Pvt. Carl Justice be longs to Co. M, 307 Inf. and is taking desert training in the south west section of the United States. He is now spending a furlough at his home at Edneyville. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Fisher a 9V2 pound son, Oscar, Jr., on Monday, April 26. Mrs. Lucile Brooks, of High Point, spent the week-end here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fisher. She is returning to High Point this week and taking her son, Clyde Brooks, Jr., with her. Clyde spent the fall and win ter here and attended the Quebec school. Mrs. Harve Searcy, who has spent some time here' with her daughter, Mrs. Lee Miller, left Monday for Etowah, where she is to spend a while with her mother, Mrs. Capps, who is nearly 90 years of age and is to have a birthday celebration and family reunion next Sunday.
