Brackett, formerly Miss Alice Porter, of Brevard, whose recent marriage took place in Atlanta, Ga. The reception rooms of the hotel were attractive with an arrange ment of gladioli, snapdragons and larkspur, emphasizing a color scheme in pink and green. A three tiered bride’s cake centered a prettily decorated lace covered table, on which were also burning white tapers and flowers in the prevailing colors. Ice cream mold ed to resemble a bride and groom and pink and green mints were served with the cake. Added at tractions were clever favors, each one of which contained best wishes for the bride, which were read in turn by the guests. Other features of entertainment were contests, carrying out the bridal idea, and the awarding of prizes to the winners. The shower of miscellaneous gifts was presented in a novel manner, when a negro mammy entered, with an attractively dec orated laundry basket filled with gifts for the honoree. Mrs. Brackett, who has been em ployed in the chemical department at Ecusta, expects to leave next week to join her husband, Lieu tenant Brackett, in Spartanburg, S. C., where he is stationed at Camp Croft. Enjoyable Parties In Bridge Series Among the enjoyable social functions of the week were two events in a series of bridge parties given by Mrs. Edwin L. Happ and Mrs. A. If. Montville, at the home of Mrs. Happ. The first bridge in the series was given Tuesday evening and the second on Wednesday after noon. Other social events will fol low to complete the series. Music Club Hears Of Russian Composer The first informal meeting of the summer months of the Bre vard Music Lovers’ club proved interesting and enjoyable. The meeting was held last Saturday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Julius Sader, with Mrs. Nat Townsend as co-hostess. Mrs. Sader, program leader, gave a brief review of the life of the Russian composer, Peter Uyitch Tschaikowsky. She play ed the recordings of his “Sixth Symphony,” which she prefaced with remarks about thff different themes and movements. The joint hostesses were as sisted in serving by Misses Mary Ann Ramsey and Carolyn Kizer, who were visitors at the meet ing. Mrs. W. M. Matheson, moth er-in-law of Mrs. Ed Matheson, was also a guest. The next meeting will be held in one of the local churches the latter part of July, and will be in the nature of the patriotic con cert of sacred music. SARAH TAYLOR GUILD HAS MEETING OF INTEREST The June meeting of the Sarah Taylor Guild of the Methodist church was held last Thusday evening at the home of Mrs. E. H. McMahan, with Mrs. Frank Kerber as co-hostess. In the absence of the chairman, Mrs. Ralph Fisher, routine busi ness was conducted by Mrs. Nat Townsend. Mrs. Jack Trantham was program leader, assisted by Mrs. Townsend, leading the de votionals. Refreshments and a social per iod were enjoyed at conclusion of the business session. Engagement Local Girl Is Announced Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Brown, of Brevard, have announced the engagement of their daughter. Miss Carol Elizabeth Brown, to Pfc. Thomas Sellers, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Sellers, of Sylva. ! The bride-elect is a graduate of Brevard high school. Pfc. Sellers is a graduate of Sylva high school. He is stationed now in the anti aircraft division of the coast ar tillery, at Manchester, Conn. Plans for the wedding have not been made. JUNE MEETING OF GARDEN CLUB TO BE FRIDAY P. M. The two-fold program will be in charge of Mrs. Edwin Happ, who will discuss “Flowers in the Home,” and Mrs. Joe Poole, discussing “Flowers in the church.” PRESBYTERIAN AUXILIARY TO MEET THIS AFTERNOON The Auxiliary of the Presbyter ian church will meet this after noon at 3:30 for the general meet ing, which will be preceded by a meeting of the executive board at 3 o’clock. HOSPITAL AUXILIARY TO * MEET ON 2nd FRIDAYS Plans were made at the meet ing of the Women’s Hospital Aux iliary, last Friday afternoon, to hold the regular monthly meetings hereafter on each second Friday afternoon at 2:30 in the ladies’ parlor of the Methodist church. Attention is called to members to bear in mind this date for regular meetings. Girl Scouts To Go Camping This Sunday A large number of Brevard council girl scouts will go to Camp Illahee Sunday for a week of camping and scout training. This week of camping is being made possible by the successful finance drive that has just been completed. Illness and industrial accidents account for more than 50 percent of absences from war work. Jenkins, will officiate. June Wedding Is Announced Here Announcement has been made of the marriage of Miss Dora Sue Long, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter H. Long, of Moncure, to Pvt. Wilton Lee Ward, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. D. Ward, of Pen rose. The wedding took place on June 2nd at the Presbyterian manse in Pittsboro. The pastor, P.ev. Mr. Hayes, officiated. Pvt. Ward, who spent a recent furlough here with his parents, re turned to Fort Tilden, N. Y., where he is in the motor pool of the coast artillery. Mrs. Ward re turned to the home of her par ents.
