JORDAN WHITMIRE, Correspondent ' GIVE BIRTHDAY DINNER Mr. and Mrs. William Tolley, Sr., entertained with a dinner at their home in the Calvert section Sunday honoring the birthday an niversary of Mrs. Tolley. DECORATION SERVICE SUNDAY Decoration services for the pur pose of decorating graves at the cemetery nearby will be held next Sunday at Shoal Creek Bap tist church in the Gloucester sec tion beginning at 10:30 a. m. The pastor, Rev. J. B. Kilpatrick, will deliver an address. All persons having friends and relatives buried in the cemetery are especially in vited to attend. WOOD HOME DAMAGED The residence of chief of police man Tom Wood and Mrs. Wood caught on fire early last Friday morning. The fire was of undetermined orgin, catching between a bedroom and bath room. Considerable dam age was done to the house, and Mr. and Mrs. Wood lost several blankets, linen and a new mattress. WOOD RE UNION IS HELD Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wood and children held a family reunion and picnic at Frozen Lake Sunday. Members of the family were Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wood, Mr. and Mrs. Tommey Wood and children, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wood and children, of Brevard, and Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Wheeler and son, of Morganton, and Lloyd Wood, of U. S. navy, stationed at Little Creek, Virginia. I Are You In Tune With The Times? Mrs. Cline formerly resided in Rosman. Her father was pastor of Rosman Methodist church four years. MRS. WHITMIRE HONORED Mrs. Talmadge Brooks entertain ed with a party and shower at her home near Rosman last Thursday afternoon honoring Mrs. Archie Whitmire, of Texas and Rosman. The color scheme of pink and blue was carried out in the decora tions. The honoree was the recipi ent of many beautiful gifts. Tasty refreshments were served. PERSONAL NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Mack Collins, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nicholson and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Dishman were visitors to Horse Pasture section Sunday night and had a picnic supper. Ralph Keaton, of Central, S. C., is spending several days visiting his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Stophel. Mrs. James Staton was called to Seneca Monday due to the death! of her brother, Jesse Thomas. Lloyd Wood, of U. S. Navy, stationed at Little Creek, Va., spent a short furlough here visit ing his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wood. Mr. and Mrs. Wash Murphy and son, John Frank, Mrs. Tom Han nah and two children, of Pickens, S. C., were guests Sunday of the former’s aunt, Mrs. Lee R. Fisher. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lawrence and son, Don, of Memphis, Tenn., were dinner guests Thursday of Mrs. Lawrence’s father, W. J. Moore and Mrs. Moore. Tom Dodson was removed to Transylvania Community hospital Saturday for treatment. W. H. Summey, who has been ill for several weeks, is slightly improved. Mr. Summey is at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Paul Volrath. W. L. Harmon laft Friday for Indiana where he will teach a school of music. J. D. Powell returned to his home at Kannapolis Sunday, hav ing spent the past week visiting his sister, Mrs. Arthur Moore and other relatives. Rev. and Mrs. D. L. Earnhardt, of Etowah, were guests Friday of Rev. and Mrs. J. R. Bowman. Mrs. Archie Whitmire is spend ing a few days in Greenville, S. C., visiting her sister, Mrs. W. I. Reece, Jr. Mrs. S. N. Foster, of Calvert, spent Sunday visiting her daugh ter, Mrs. Frank Morgan. Mrs. D. Phillips, of Liberty, S. C., spent Friday night visiting Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Fowler. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Cantrell and children, of Frozen Creek, are spending several days visiting Mr. and Mrs. George Butler. He was drafted last February. PFC. CLYDE G. JONES, center, is in the air corps at Keesler Field, Miss., where he is taking training as an airplane mechanic. He was drafted last February. PVT. JOE E. JONES, left, is in the field artillery stationed now at Fort Sill, Okla. He was drafted in June, 1941. The three brothers are sons of Mr. and Mrs. S. A. MIDDLE FORK NEWS BY INEZ CHAPMAN A series of services began Sun day night at Middle Fork church and will run through this week. The services are being conducted each evening by Rev. A. J. Manly. The services start every evening at 8:30 o’clock. Everyone is invited to attend. Several people of this section attended the home coming at Old Towaway church Sunday. Cpl. Howard Volarath, who has been spending a few days furlough here with his friends and relatives, returned Friday to Camp Bliss, Texas. Pvt. Auscor Aiken returned Monday to Camp White, Oregon, where he is stationed, after spend ing a 20-day furlough with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Tary Aiken. Pvt. Aiken has been in the service about nine months. This was his first furlough home. Third Class Petty Officer Elbert Lee Chapman, of the U. S. Navy, returned Saturday to his base at Monteo. N. C., after spending a furlough with his parents, Rev. and Mrs. N. H. Chapman. Dr. Thompson To Be Guest Preacher Sun. Dr. W. T. Thompson, professor of religious education at Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, Va., will be guest preacher at the Presbyterian church here this Sun day morning at 11 o’clock, it has been announced by the pastor, Rev. Ashby Johnson. Dr. Thompson, who has been a member of the faculty of Camp Carolina here since its opening, is one of the most prominent preach ers of the Presbyterian church. For a number of years the local Presbyterian church has had Dr. Thompson as guest preacher, and has come to regard the occasion of his being here as one of the features of the summer. hospital in Henderson Monday. Mrs. Helen Blair, of Etowah, Tenn., is spending several days visiting her mother, Mrs. Cecil Green. Pvt. Albert Israel, of Camp Ste wart, Ga., spent Sunday visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Israel. BLANTYRE NEWS BY MRS. ADA REED Wilber Rahn, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Rahn, is at Miami Beach, Florida, where he is in training for the air service. Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Setzer and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Rogers and children, of Candler Heights, were Sunday visittors of Mr. and Mrs. John Reed. Mrs. Geneva Haney has been spending some time with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Turley Justus. Mrs. Holand Orr and little daughter, Louise, of Etowah, visit ed in the community Sunday. Mrs. Zena Justus spent a few days recently with Mr. and Mrs. Selwyn Hamilton here. Mr. and Mrs. William Westall moved last week from Rivermont Oakland Has Visitor From South Carolina BY MRS. LEE NORTON Rev. W. H. Nicholson, of Salem, S. C., spent the week end visiting friends here, and he preached at Lake Toxaway Baptist church on Sunday. He also conducted cottage prayer service at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Reid Sunday night. Rev. and Mrs. Roland Robinson had as dinner guest last Sunday Rev. S. B. McCall, of Lake Tox away. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fisher had as guests the former’s mother, Mrs. Lee R. Fisher and daughter, Miss Verona Fisher, of Rosman. the past week end. Mrs. Mary Burgess had her three brothers, Jim, Gus and J. B. Gal loway, of Glenville, as visitors last Sunday. Other visitors were Ken ney Fowler, of Brevard, Kile Gal loway, of the navy, who is here on furlough, Lile and Jacqueline Galloway, of Glenville, and Lensy Sanders, of Lake ToxaVay. Rev. and Mrs. Theodore Rose and Mrs. Clyde Chappell and daughters, Misses Jewel and Mari an Etta, attended the revival ser vice at Cashiers Sunday night, and reported a very successful meeting in progress there. Mrs. Garvin Ducker was report ed to be quite ill at her home here last Sunday. Our friend, Mrs. S. L. Sanders, appears to be improving, especial ly as to her mental condition, but she still remans quite feeble phy sically. Lane Sanders, who was sent overseas some time ago, was heard from recently, and said he was getting on fine. He is somewhere in Australia. Cottage prayer service will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Revis next Sunday night, and will be in charge of Rev. Roland Robin son. farm to the R. V. Duncan place which they bought several weeks ago. Mr. Westall has been doing some repair work on his house.
