Local Girl Weds Andrews
Man In Pretty Ceremony
At Episcopal Church
Miss Priscilla Edith Bobst,
daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Iftrry
Ranson Bobst, of Brevard, be- j
came the bride of Sgt. Robert
Harold Caldwell, son of Mrs. Lucy
Caldwell and the late L. O. Cald
well, of Andrews, in a ceremony
at St. Philip’s Episcopal church
in Brevard, on Wednesday after
noon, August 4, at four-thirty
o’clock. The Rev. Harry Perry,
rector, officiated.
The church was decorated with
white gladioli, white cosmos and
white burning tapers.
Wedding Music
Mrs. Samuel A. Bullock, of
Brevard, organist, played the wed
ding music, assisted by the church
choir and Miss Jeanette Austin,
as soloist. Before the ceremony
Miss Austin sang, “The Lord’s
Prayer,” by Malotte, and “Love
Divine,” by Stainer. The choir
sang as the processional hymn,
“The Voice That Breathes O'er
Eden,” and “Oh Perfect Love.”
The traditional wedding marches
were played as the processional and
the recessional.
The bride, who was given in
marriage by her father, wore a
satin bodice with sweetheart neck
line, long sleeves tapering to a
point at the hand, bouffant skirt
of illusion. Her lace veil, belong
ing to Mrs. W. D. Schneider, a
friend of her mother, was worn
by the bride’s mother at her wed
ding. She carried a white prayer
book on which was a white book
shower.

She wore a white organdy dress i
fashioned on peasant lines, with ]
long, full skirt and tiny pearl but
tons on the blouse front. A snood
of white illusion with a spray of
Shasta daisies formed the head
dress. Her arm bouquet was of
Shasta daisies tied with nile green
satin ribbon.
Miss Martha Caldwell and Miss
Betty Sue Caldwell, sisters of the
bridegroom, of Andrews, were
bridesmaids. They wore white or
gandy dresses fashioned along the
same lines as the maid of honor.
A coronet of white illusion and
Shasta daisies formed the head
dress of each. They carried an
arm bouquet of Shasta daisies
tied with white satin ribbon.
Clyde Herman Jarrett, Jr., of
Andrews, was best man. Edgar A.
Wood, of Andrews, was usher.
Informal Reception
Following the ceremony, an in
formal reception was held at the
Pierce-Moore hotel in Brevard.
A crystal bowl filled with white
cosmos centered the bride’s table.
In the receiving line were Mrs.
H. R. Bobst, Mrs. Lucy Caldwell,
the bride, bridegroom, brides
maids and maid of honor. Those
assisting in serving were Misses
Dorothy Poole, Jeanette Austin,
Juanita and Virginia Ward, all of
Brevard.
The bride’s mother wore a
powder blue Jersey dress and
white hat. Her corsage was of
yellow rose buds. The bridegroom s
mother wore a dress of light blue
and a corsage of yellow rose buds
Honeymoon 1 np
The couple left for a short
honeymoon trip, after which the
bride will return to Andrews,
where she will reside during her
husband’s service in the marine
corps. For her going-aw'av out
fit, the bride wore a Burgandy
dressmaker suit in Forseman wool,
with accessories in black.
Mrs. Caldwell is a graduate of
Brevard high school and Brevard
college. At present she is sec
retary to the head of the educa
tional department of the TVA at
Andrews.
Sergeant Caldwell is serving
in the U. S. marine corps, sta
tioned now- at New' River. He was
in the invasion of Tulagi and
Guadalcanal. He is the grandson
of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Boyer, of
Newport, Tennessee.
Out of town guests for the
wedding were: Mrs. W. Morgan and
Mrs. A. H. Bobst, of Philadelphia,
Pa., grandmothers of the bride;
Mrs. D. P. Bricker, of Lititz, Pa.,
aunt of the bride; Mr. and Mrs.
Philip Holz. Mrs. D. Frer, Mrs.
Ed O'Hare, Miss Barbara Lea
O’Hare, all of Hendersonville;
Miss Alice Tatham, Miss Emogene
Hall and Mrs. W. O. Darden, all
of Andrews.
AUXILIARY AND GUILD WILL
MEET WITH MRS. ALLISON
The August meeting of the
Auxiliary and Guild of St. Philip’s
Episcopal church will be held at
the home of Mrs. J. M. Allison
this afternoon at 3:30.

Farewell Party
Miss Lillian Cabe was enter
tained with a surprise farewell
party last Thursday evening at
the home of Miss Carolynne Sluder.
A scavenger hunt was the main
feature of entertainment, after
which refreshments were served.
Miss Cabe left Sunday for
Webster, where she will attend
school this winter. She has been
living here with her sister, Mrs.
Berry Gaither, the past year.

Here In Brevard In Ear

At a dinner party Tuesday eve
ning at the home of Dr. and Mrs.
j E. S. English, of Brevard, an
nouncement was made of the en
gagement of their daughter, Miss
Katherine English, to Pfc. John I.
Anderson, Jr., formerly of Bre
vard.
The wedding will take place on
Saturday, September fourth, at
the Brevard Methodist church.
Guests at the party Tuesday
evening included: Miss Mildred
Carpenter, Mrs. C. B. Carter, Miss
Lucille Roberts. Mrs. William
Kirk. Miss Elizabeth Johnson, of
Hendersonville. Mrs. L i t a B.
Steppe, Mrs. Joseph E. Hunter.

Miss English was educated at
the public schools of Brevard and
attended the Woman’s College of
the University of North Carolina,
at Greensboro, and was graduated
from the American School of Art
and Design, New York City. At
the present time she is employed
in the office of the Ecusta Paper
corporation.
Pfc. Anderson, former business
and advertising manager of The
Transylvania Times and publicity
director of Brevard College, re
ceived his degree in journalism
from the University of North Car
olina, and attended Reidsville high
school and Wooten's business col
lege in Reidsville.
At present he is classification
specialist at Fort Jackson, S. C.
GIRL SCOUTS HEAR TALK
FROM MRS. KIZER AT MEET
The Girl Scouts of Troop I held
the regular meeting on Friday af
ternoon at the Presbyterian church
at which time Mrs. A. H. Kizer
spoke on community life and ac
tivities of the Girl Scouts of the
United States during 1942-43.
Mary Ann Ramsey, president,
was in charge of the meeting, and
Mildred Melton, in charge of the
program, introduced Mrs. Kizer.
After the patrol encorner, Mrs.
John Pickelsimer, scout leader,
discussed plans with the girls for
a hike and other amusements dur
ing the summer.
PRESBYTERIAN CIRCLES
TO MEET THIS THURSDAY
Circle No. 1 of the Presbyterian
church will meet this Thursday
afternoon at 3:30 o’clock at the
home of Mrs. Ashby Johnson;
Circle No. 2 will meet at the home
of Mrs. Harry Patton; Circle No.
3 will meet with Miss Annie Jean
Gash. The night circle will meet
at the Hut.

Announcement has been made
here of the marriage of Miss Louise
Padgett, daughter of the late
and Mr. and Mrs. Philip M. Pad
gett, of Walterboro, S. C., to
Charles Lewis Sherzer, Jr., son
of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lewis
Sherzer, of Washington, D. C.
The wedding took place at the
Eldebroake Methodist church in
Washington, D. C., on June 3rd,
with Rev. Elmer Ashbury Lam
bert, officiating.
The bride wore an afternoon
dress of sheer navy with white
orchids. Miss Margaret Padgett,
sister of the bride, was maid of
honor. She wore a tan suit with
brown accessories, and a corsage
of gardenias.
After a honeymoon trip, the
couple returned to make their
home in Washington, where Mr.
Sherzer is in the postal emnlov
ment service.
Mrs. Sherzer, who has frequent
ly visited her sister, Mrs. Edward
Kilpatrick, in Brevard, is a grad
uate nurse of Biltmore hospital,
where she continued on the nurs
ing staff prior to her connection
with Emergency hospital, Wash
ington, D. C.
CATHOLIC SODALITY MET
WITH MISS NEUBERGER TUES.
The Catholic Ladies’ Sodality
met on Tuesday evening at the
home of Miss Emmi Neuberger.
After the business meeting, a
pleasant hour of music and sing
ing was enjoyed. Prize for the
evening was won by Mrs. James
Brennan.
Delicious refreshments were
served to the following: Mrs. Fritz
Brauer, Mrs. Lorenzo Faucher,
Mrs. Peter Leyh, Mrs. James Bren
nan, Mrs. Robert Kappers. Mrs.
