• • • When Victory Comes There will be great rejoicing all over the Allied world and in liberated regions. But victory will come only at the cost of prodigious effort, both on the battle fronts and at home. Just now Allied troops are locked in combat on Italian soil. Other bitter struggles are sure to follow this one before Hitler’s European fortress is smashed and the liberty of mankind is made secure. The present war loan drive asking the American people to subscribe 15 billions in bonds comes at a critical time. The Allied Nations throughout the world after many reverses are on the offensive and the rapidity with which they overcome the enemy will depend in large measure on the backing they receive from home. Gaines, commander of the local post of the American Legion, said yesterday that notices have been mailed to the membership for 1944 dues. The mailing, he explained, was in order to conserve funds and an excellent response has been given by the membership in sending in their dues. However, some have not yet done so and they are urged to send in remit tances promptly in order that the expenses of an active program for the coming year may be met. Dues may be sent to W. J. Wallis, Jason Huggins, of Brevard, or to F. Brown Carr at Pisgah Forest. All members of the Legion post and visiting ex-service men are urged to assemble and take part in the parade to be staged in honor of the mechanized unit of the army which will visit Brevard Monday. The time of the parade and other particulars will be found in another part of this paper. BUY WAR BONDS AND STAMPS MISS REEVES IS STUDYING TYPING AND WORKING ON THE TRANSYLVANIA TIMES Miss Emoryetta Reeves, of Spar ta, is now studying typing at Bre vard college and is also working for The Times, getting some jour nalistic training and experience preparatory to filling a position on another newspaper published by Ed M. Anderson. Miss Reeves attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Chapel Hill. Last year she taught at Spar ta and resigned to feo into news paper work. 3 COMPENSATION -FROM PAGE ONE what her sister had said. Ralph Ramsey represented Miss Shipman and Grainger Pearce, Charlotte at torney, appeared in behalf of the Bituminous Casualty corporation, with which Miss Rose Shipman carried an insurance policy at the time of the accident. The next case heard was that of James Haynie vs. the Ecusta Paper Corp. and the Liberty Mutual In surance company. Haynie sought to recover on the grounds that in July, 1942, his arm was injured while working at the plant. Dr. Newland testified in this case also, describing the nature of the in jury, and the claimant was heard. Carl Stewart, Marshall attorney, represented Haynie and Kester Walton, of Hendersonville, repre sented the corporation and com pany. As a courtesy to the New York Industrial commission, Mr. Kimzey heard the case of Virgil E. Twiggs vs. the Grumman Aircraft Engine ering corporation. Mr. Twiggs tes tified that on February 2 of this year, while working at the aircraft plant in New York state, he suf fered injury to his right arm in a fall which had seriously impaired his earning capacity. Mr. Kimzey is scheduled to con duct hearings today at Bumsviile and Spruce Pine and tomorrow in Rutherfordton. Between $25,000 and $50,000 in compensation is in volved in all the cases he will hear this week. Buy U. S. Government Bonds and Stamps regularly. Any person taking or having in possession doe deer in violation of the state laws is subject to a fine or imprisonment. Any person who takes or at tempts to take deer between sun set and sunrise with the aid of a spotlight or other artificial light on any highway or in any field, woodland or forest is subject to a fine. It is unlawful to chase deer with dogs in the county. It is unlawful to sell quail. The license of all persons con victed of violations shall be re voked. The check is being made to see that all service establishments in the county are complying with ceiling prices. Miss Lewis also announced that the following assistants have been added to the price panel board: Mrs. Harold Runion, Mrs. R. L. Kapp and Mrs. E. L. Happ, of Brevard, and Mrs. Calvin Smith, of Rosman. Miss Nash Succeeds Mrs. Chappell In FSA Office, Other Changes Miss Mildred A. Nash, of Try on, has been transferred to the FSA office here as secretary, suc ceeding Mrs. Fulton Chappell, R. L. Smith, county FSA supervisor, announced this week. Miss Nash has been with the FSA for the past two years. As yet no one has been appoint ed to succeed Mrs. Elma Goodell, who recently resigned as county FSA home management super visor, after having served in this capacity for nearly two years.
