Action is imperative. Teachers
need to get together not only
among themselves, but with others
in the community, to get to the
bottom of these problems, to un
derstand them, and with the com
bined help of all, to actually re
vise our educational effort to meet
them.
Some of the outstanding of these
problems, as brought out by Miss
Paulukas, were those of the nur
sery schools, adult education, mak
ing education active and broader
than the mere use of textbooks al
low, technical training in a more
inclusive training program, and a
thorough training in government
and civic responsibility.
“It is unreasonable to hope,”
stated Mr. Greene, “that we can,
as soon as the war is won, return
to those conditions that existed
prior to Pearl Harbor. The world
has become a much smaller place,
and we have learned that we can
not disregard what other people
do. Our children must learn to
understand the rest of the world
and its problems, and to realize
that to keep liberty and equality
for ourselves, we must be willing
to share it.
At this meeting, the ninth in a
series of meetings to be held
throughout the state, Mr. Greene
urged the support of all teachers
of the Federal Aid for Education
bill (S6-37) and requested that
they back that support by getting
in touch with Senators Reynolds
and Bailey.
“North Carolina is taking steps
forward in the field of education,”
stated Mr. Greene, “but we must
gain more strength, and the way
to gain that strength is through
unity.”

Mrs. H. N. Blake. It was consid
ered by the men leaders that a la
bor swapping ring be worked out
in the respective neighborhoods
and that farmers cooperating in
such a ring, get together during
the year and plan their work in
such a manner as to be able to help
each other at the time the extra
labor might be needed. Improved
pasture was next of importance and
more suitable storage space for
home foods. Cellars and bank
storage are rating high on the list
of neighborhood needs and judg
ing from the discussions in the
neighborhood meetings that have
already been held, many farm
homes are going to have such stor
age space that have long been
needed.
