There Are 21 Men And Women On Co llege Faculty BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES GIVEN OF EACH MEMBER All of Them Are Well Train ed And Experienced In Their Fields. Brevard College has a large, well trained and experienced fac ulty composed of 21 members. Dr. Eugene J. Coltrane is presi dent of the institution and has held this position since the college was established here in 1934. He re ceived his A. B. degree from Guil ford College in 1907, A. M. from Columbia University in 1925 and did graduate study at Harvard University. He was awarded a D. Ed. degree by High Point col lege in 1935. Prof. C. H. Trowbridge is vice president of the college and pro fessor of chemistry and physics. He was formerly president of Bre vard Institute and Weaver college. Dr. Burt W. Loomis is acting dean of the college. Mrs. Coltrane is acting registrar. Miss Lucile Smith and Miss Dulcie Hayes ser ve as dean of women. G. H. Far ley is superintendent of buildings and grounds and has charge of the farm and dairy. Miss Julia L. Cutchin is secretary to the presi dent. Farley BREVARD COLLEGE HAS MANY LARGE, MODERN BUILDINGS Situated In A Setting Of Beautiful Trees And Spacious Lawn. There are four large brick buildings in the Brevard college unit, situated in a setting of beau tiful shade trees and spacious, well-kept lawns. Spencer Hall, the administration building, contains the offices, class rooms, laboratories, auditorium and library. The building has capa city to accomodate four hundred students. The three dormitories are known as West Hall, Tayior Hall, and Frances Ross Hall. West Hall and Taylor Hall are occupied by wo men. All these buildings have steam heat, hot and cold water in lavatories and showers, and other modern conveniences. All dormi tory rooms are furnished with sin gle beds and each room has a dresser, table, and chairs. Special attention has been given to the lighting in the dormitory rooms. The dining room and kitchen are located in West Hall. The college leases Virginia Lodge, a commodious resort hotel just off the campus, as a k.me for young women. In addition to these buildings there is a large gymnasium and an excellent athletic field on the campus. S., Winthrop College, 1940; grad uate study, Winthrop College, sum mer 1940. She has been with Brevard College since 1940. Miss Madge M. Rhyne, A. B., M. S., dietitian and teacher of Home Economics. B. S. Woman’s Col lege of U. N. C., 1931; M. S. Wo man’s College of U. N. C. She came to Brevard College in 1941. Harold Hancock, professor of History, M. A., Harvard, head of history department. This is his second year at Brevard College. Mrs. Doris Ledford Farley, direc tor of labor program and assistant in the business office. Graduated from Brevard College in 1940 and has been head of the student labor program for the past three years. Robert E. Wilder, of Gaffney, S. C., is director of physical educa tion and athletic coach for men. He graduated from Furman Uni versity in 1931 and played varsity football there four years. This is his first year at Brevard. Miss Dorothy A. Chapin Hilliard succeeds Mrs. Harold Stallcup as director of physical education for women and director of campus so cial activities. She attended Ver mont State Normal, the Kellogg School of Education and New York University. This is her first year at Brevard. Miss Emily Tuttle, of Yadkin ville, has joined the college fac ulty this year as an instructor in the pre-college department. She is an experienced teacher. Miss Lillian M. Maxfield, of Ashe ville, college librarian, is another new-comer. She received her A. B. degree from Albion college, Al bion, Mich., M. A. from George Peabody college and B. S. in library science from Texas State College for Women. Mrs. Mary Gladys Lobdell, who teaches biology, received her B. S. degree from Mississippi State Col lege for Women, M. S. from Uni versity of Illinois and studied for her Ph. D. at University of Illinois. She has been at Brevard College since 1942. R. L. Johnson recently joined i Student Council At College Is Active 1 One of the outstanding organiza tions at Brevard College is the Stu dent-Faculty government council. The purpose of this council is to establish an efficient form of democratic government and to pro mote a spirit of cooperation be tween the students and faculty. The council sponsors and super vises ail student organizations and refuses recognition of non-active and unnecessary organizations. It considers any matter of common interest to all students. The coun cil meets semi-monthly. Madge Finger is president of the student council this year and Mar jorie Ezzelle is secretary and treas urer. the faculty, and will teach in the business department and assist in the business office. He is also treasurer of the college. He at tended the following schools; Southern Normal University, Val pairso University, Jackson School of Business and University 'of Vir ginia.
