Around 30 Students Taking Pre-College Work. Enrollment at Brevard college this year now totals around 260 and it is expected to reach 300, President Eugene J. Coltrane an nounces. Boarding and day students for the fall semester today number 227 i, and 40 students were enrolled dur ing the summer term. At least 40 more are expected during the rest of this fiscal school year. Enrollment in the freshman class is approximately 150. In the sophomore class there are 46 stu dents and in pre-college around 30. Students at the college this year come from 11 different states, ex tending from New Jersey to Flori da and Mississippi. A majority of the students, however, are from North Carolina. There are 15 from South Carolina. The ele.en states are North and South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia, New Jersey, Mississippi, Florida, Ohio, Maryland, and Geor gia. A large number of students are enrolled from Brevard, numbering 27 in all. Nineteen of them are either freshmen or sophomores and 8 are taking pre-college work. Talley, left last week to join her husband, Robert Bernard, at Kansas City. Mr. Bernard is in the army service and, it is supposed, Mrs. Bernard will remain with him.' Mrs. Leslie Anders, who has been with her sister here, Mrs. Coy Surrette for several days re covering from an operation, is re ported much improved and ex pects to go to her home in Char leston, S. C., soon. Horace Blythe, who has been in army camp for several months, visited his wife and other folks here last week. Mrs. Fay Talley, of Kansas City, has been visiting her husband’s parents. Acting Dean DR. BURT LOOMIS came Brevard college in 1935 and acting dean and head of voca tional guidance. He is popular with all students. K" o Vice-President PROF. C. H. TROWBRIDGE is vice-president of the college and professor of Chemistry and Physics. He is beloved by all of the students. Acting Registrar MRS. ISABEL DOUB COL TRANE is acting registrar and teaches English. She also sup ervises publication of the stu dent newspaper. Zeb Meadows Makes Record High Grade Zeb Meadows, a former Brevard college student and employee of Duke Power company here, is now in the navy, and has made the highest examination of any appli cant entering the naval training station at Norfolk, Va., it has been learned here. Young Meadows has been ap pointed to a two-year training Homecoming To Be Held This Sunday The annual homecoming at Eng lish Chapel will be held this Sun day, it has been announced by H. L. Brevard College Board Of Trustees Is Composed Of Twenty-Four Members COLLEGE TO HAVE A FULL ATHLETIC PROGRAM THIS YR. Physical Education And In-j tramural Sports To Be Stressed. Will Have Football. Plans are being made to have one of the most extensive and best rounded physical education pro grams this year that Brevard col lege has ever had, Dr. Coltrane announces. Robert E. Wilder, former star Furman University football coach, will direct physical education in struction for men and coach ath letics. Miss Dorothy A. Chapin Hilliard will have charge of phy sical education for women. A full group of courses in phy sical education are being offered and a large percentage of the stu dents have already enrolled to take some physical ed instruction and training.
