C. Church Ceremony. Miss Mary Ethelyn Pickelsimer, daughter of Charles W. Pickel simer and the late Mrs. Pickel simer, of Brevard, became the bride of Rhea Orin Doyle, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. V. Doyle, of Jack son, Tenn., in a ceremony at the First Presbyterian church chapel, Greenville, S. C., Saturday after noon, October 16, at six o’clock. The pastor, Rev. Charles H. Nab ers, D. D., officiated, in the pres ence of a few relatives and close friends. The wedding music was played by the church organist, Lawrence G. Nilson. The bride wore the wedding dress of her cousin, Mrs. John Pickelsimer, of Brevard, who was married almost a year ago. The dress was of white ivory brocaded satin, with sweetheart neckline, long pointed sleeves, basque waist and long, full skirt. Her finger tip veil was caught with an orchid. She carried a prayer book topped with an orchid. Anne Pickelsimer, sister of the bride, of Brevard, was maid of honor. P. Tindall as co-hostess. | The exhibit consisted of speci mens of canned goods, vegetables and flowers from each member’s garden this summer, and present ed altogether a beautiful display of a wartime harvest scene. Judges in the exhibit were Miss Annabel Teague, county home ag ent, Miss Madge Rhyne, head of Brevard college economics depart ment, and Miss Edna Nesbitt, Ros man home economics teacher. The following were prize winn ers: canned exhibit, Mrs. B. W. Thomason, first; Mrs. Edwin Happ, i second; Mrs. S. R. Harrington, third; vegetable exhibit, Mrs. John Maxwell, first; Mrs. Happ, second; Mrs. Ludwig Straus, third; flower exhibit, best ararngement, Mrs. E. R. Pendleton; best specimen, Mrs. Happ, first and second. In the absence of the president and vice president, routine busi ness was conducted by the secre tary, Miss Dulcie Hayes. A social period and refreshments concluded the meeting. FIDELIS CLASS NOT TO MEET THIS WEEK The Fidelis class of the First Baptist Church will not have the regular meeting this week, since it has been found advisable to post pone it until further notice. GIRL SCOUTS ASSIST IN NATIONAL WAR DRIVE Members of Troop I of the Girl Scouts, after hearing a talk by C. M. Douglas regarding the national war fund drive at their regular meeting last Friday, spent the re mainder of the afternoon folding circulars that will be distributed advertising the drive. Mrs. Ashe Macfie and Mrs. John Pickelsimer, leaders, were present at the meeting. taffeta dress with trimmings in black and black ribbon bows in her haid. Her arm bouquet was of yellow roses and pink chrysan themums. John B. Doyle, of Washington, D. C., was his brother’s best man. Mrs. Doyle is a graduate of Mon treat College high school, and at tended Brevard College and Fur man University, Greenville, S. C. Mr. Doyle is a graduate of Jack son, Tenn., high school and of Columbia Tech, Washington, D. C. He is in the U. S. army air forces, [stationed now at the army air field, Congaree, S. C. A number of Brevard relatives and friends attended the ceremony in Greenville. ENGAGEMENT IS ANNOUNCED MISS URSULA M. UTTLEY, above, of Jersey City, N. J., whose engagament to John E. Driscoll, of Brevard, has been announced. Miss Uttley is a niece of Mr. William H^ckett, of Jersey City, who has announced the engagement of his niece. The date for the wedding has not been made known. In The Spars HELEN L. TEAGUE, above, seaman second class, joined the SPARS in July, and has com pleted her boot training at Palm Beach, Fla. She is now station ed at Brookline, Mass. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lem Daniels, of Pisgah Forest. C. will be held Saturday afternoon at 3:30, according to an announcement of the president, Miss Annie Jean Gash. Election of officers and oth er important business will be transacted. WEDNESDAY CLUB HEARS OF FAMOUS GARDENS The Brevard Wednesday club met at the home of Mrs. Randall Everett on the afternoon of Oc tober 13, with fourteen members present, one honorary member, Mrs. Thomas Wylie, and two guests, Mrs. Bradford Allen and Miss Haight. Two new members were also welcomed, Mrs. Otis Marshall and Mrs. Ashby Johnson. The program on “Famous Gard-1 ens” was led by Mrs. F. P. Sledge, J assisted by the following other members: Mrs. J. S. Silversteen, Mrs. David Ward, Mrs. R. H. Ram sey, Mrs. Lehman Kapp, Mrs. A. H. Kizer and Mrs. E. J. Coltrane. Routine business was conducted by the president, Mrs. Roy Long, after which she gave a report of the district meeting of federated clubs which was held in Asheville. The report was a commendable one, showing the club as 100 per cent war bond owners; having a worth while project of sponsoring the local Girl Scout organization, and meeting all regular yearly re sponsibilities. Delicious refreshments were ser ved by the hostess, after which the club adjourned to meet on Octob er 27 at the home of Mrs. Keith Pooser, with Miss Annie Jean Gash as program leader. BAPTIST CIRCLES TO MEET THIS THURSDAY AFTERNOON Circle No. 1 of the First Baptist church will meet this afternoon at the home of Mrs. Allen Brittain, with Mrs. William Bangs as co-host ess; Circle No. 2 will meet with Mrs. Coleman Galloway; the meet ing of Circle No. 3 will be at the home of Mrs. A. E. Hampton; Cir cle No. 4 with Mrs. Thomas Dods worth; and Circle No. 5 at the home of Mrs. Albert Payne. PRESBYTERIANS TO HEAR ASHEVILLE LADY TODAY Mrs. R. D. Bedinger, of Ashe ville, will speak to the members of the Auxiliary of the Presbyterian church at the October meeting to be held at the Hut this afternoon at 3.30. She will speak on the home mission program. The regular meeting of the ex ecutive board will be held at 3 o’clock, one-half hour earlier than the general meeting. Engagement Of Brevard College Grad. Announced Rev. and Mrs. J. N. Snow, of 516 Midway Drive, Hendersonville, have announced the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Miss Mary Ruth Snow, to Robert L. Johnson, son of Mrs. Jessie O. Johnson, of Henderson ville. Miss Snow was graduated from Brevard College in 1942, and uhtil recently was employed in Winston Salem. The wedding will take place in the late fall. FORTNIGHTLY CLUB IN REGULAR MEETING Regular meeting of the Fort nightly club was held last Thurs day afternoon at the England Home, with Mrs. J. E. Loftis as hostess. The president, Mrs. G. H. Lyday, conducted routine business and gave the report of the recent dis trict meeting in Asheville. Miss Alma Trowbridge was pro gram leader, discussing the topic, “Understanding the News.” The meeting concluded with a social period and refreshments. SARAH TAYLOR GUILD HAS MEETING OF INTEREST The October meeting of Sarah Taylor Guild was held last Thurs day evening at the home of Mrs. C. B. Scott, with Mrs. Mordecia Neely and Mrs. Donald Lee Moore as co-hostesses. Mrs. Ralph Fisher, president, was in charge of routine business.
