Our Holiday Message To You
THIS CHRISTMAS will lack the joyousness of
others that we have known. We are engaged in a war
that has broken many home ties and fundamentally
altered the normal course of our lives. The future
holds for us many trials and hardships.
YET ALL of these things do not rob the occasion
of its true significance nor deprives us of celebrating
it in a worthy manner. Quite the contrary. Christ
mas, after all, is not a time for levity, for vain dis
play or for harmful indulgence. Its real purpose is to
commemorate the birth of Christ and to acknowledge
our debt to Him for His compassion on us. Christ con
fronted a hostile world, even as the forces of right
eousness today confront a hostile combine bent on
our subjection. Our armed forces, wherever they may
be engaged, are continuing in a worthy manner the
battle for justice, freedom and enlightenment begun
nearly 2,000 years ago when a great light shone at
Bethlehem and glad tidings went out to the world to
proclaim the greatest event indeed in the annals of
mankind. Puny indeed is the strength that any com
bination of men can bring to bear against this age
less message and the unconquerable hope it implants
in the minds of men.
IN THIS SPIRIT we should observe the approach
ing holiday season ... it should inspire us with a new
hope, renew our courage and fortifying us against
adversity. More than any other occasion it should
impress upon us the exalted objectives to which we
have pledged our utmost efforts ... a world rid of
the menace of evil-minded dictators who would de
prive free men of their God-given right to order their
lives as they see fit.
WE EXTEND sincere Christmas greetings to oar
many customers and friends and thank them for their
liberal patronage during the year 1943.
