Mr. and Mrs. Edward Lane and little daughter, Judy, of Charles ton, S. C., were Christmas week end guests of Mrs. Lane’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Melton. Mr. and Mrs. Willis Rogers, of Aberdeen, Md., are spending the holidays here with the latter’s pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gillespie. Mr. and Mrs. John Reese Sledge, of Atlanta, Ga., were Christmas guests of the latter’s mother, Mrs. R. F. Mock, and the former’s mo ther, Mrs. F. P. Sledge. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence M. Wil liams, of Kannapolis, have an nounced the birth of a son, Thom as Kenneth, on December 9. Mr. Williams is the son of Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Williams, of near Bre vard. Mr. and Mrs. Harold J. Payne and family, of Asheville, were holiday guests of Mrs. Payne’s mo ther, Mrs. A. W. Barnette. Grady Patterson, seaman sec ond class, of Norfolk, Va., is spending his 8-day leave here with his wife and mother. Mrs. Ella Patterson. Mr. and Mrs. George Bromfield, of Atlanta, Ga., spent the Christ mas holidays with relatives in Brevard. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Gillespie and children were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gillespie and family. Mrs. Ora Lee Smith, of Char lotte, was Christmas guest here of her son, Tommy Smith, and her parents, Rev. and Mrs. W. A. Jenkins. Mr. and Mrs. Plato Allison, of Asheville, were Christmas week end guests of the former’s fa ther, S. F. Allison, and other rela tives here. Pfc. John Anderson, of Fort Jackson, S. C., spent Christmas here with Mrs. Anderson, at the home of her mother, Mrs. E. S. English. Mrs. George Simpson, George Jr., and Bobby spent the week-end in Cheraw, S. C., with relatives. They were accompanied by Buddy Melton. George, Jr., left Monday to resume his studies at Mars Hill college, where he is in the fresh man class. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Yeoman and son, Harry, of Charleston, S. C., were holiday guests of Mrs. Yeo man’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Johnson. The latter fell on Friday and broke the small bone in her right arm, but is reported to be improving. Mrs. C. L. Newland and two chil dren, Mary Jane and Joanne, are holiday visitors here of Mrs. New land’s sisters, Misses Bill and Jennie \iken. They have been for some time in Rochester, Minn., with Major Newland, but expect to leave soon to join him where he is stationed at Laurinburg-Maxton air base hospital. Major Newland spent a few days here with his family. Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Banks and family came by for Christmas to visit Rev. and Mrs. E. R. Pendle ton on their way to see relatives in South Carolina. Eugene Pen dleton Banks, now ensign, was on his way to an amphibian base in Maryland. C. B. Scott, of the navy, station ed at Jacksonville, Fla., spent Christmas here with his wife. Miss May Crary, of Asheville, visited her father, Mr. T. B. Crary, and family here during the holi days. Miss Frances Bailey, of the faculty of Furman university, Greenville, S. C., is the holiday guest of Miss Myrtle Barnette. Lt. (jg) George Wrigley, of the U. S. navy, Camp Peary, Va., spent Christmas here with his wife and baby daughter, at the home of Mrs. Wrigley’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Patton. Mrs. R. E. Bryson, of Asheville, was a Christmas guest here of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Carrie McKee, and Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Kizer, and family. William W. Duckworth, Jr., sea man second class, of Bainbridge, Md., spent a few hours here Christmas day with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Duckworth. Mrs. W. L. Aiken visited Dr. and Mrs. J. L. On Tues day they attended the funeral of the Martin boys’ grandmother, Mrs. Celie Martin, who died at the age of 87, leaving among other rel atives 48 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. J. B. Pettit and Miss Alice Pettit, of the Bell bomber plant, Mari etta, Ga., and Sgt. Bruce Pettit, of the Greenville air base, were Christmas guests in Brevard of Mrs. J. B. Sale of Christmas Seals Falls Short Of Goal In County The annual sale of Christmas seals in Transylvania county has exceeded $200 and when all re ports are in it is believed that the sale may reach the $300 mark. The county quota was $500 and one'reason for not reaching this goal was attributed to the fact that a sufficient quantity of seals for the schools did not arrive, Mrs. C. Y. Patton stated. Mrs. E. F.
