Garren, of Brevard, became the bride of George Ross Wilson, son of Mrs. L. B. Wilson and the late Mr. Wilson, of Brevard, in a cere mony in Greenville, S. C., Friday afternoon, December 24th, at 2 o’clock. The wedding took place at the home of Probate Judge Guy A. Gullick, who officiated. An arrangement of Christmas greenery was used in the decora tions. The bride wore a navy blue crepe dress with accessories in black. Following the ceremony, the couple left for a short honeymoon trip through points in Georgia. Mrs. Wilson is a graduate of Rosman high school in the class ■of 1941. For the past two years she has held a position in the fin ishing department of the Ecusta FIDELIS CLASS HAS TREE AND CHRISTMAS PARTY The Fidelis class of the First Baptist Sunday school met at the home of Mrs. Lester Martin Tues day night for the regular meeting, combined with a Christmas party and tree. Mrs. J. E. Rufty was co hostess with .Mrs. Martin. Mrs. Julian Glazener led the de votional and read the Christmas story. Mrs. Albert Payne sang a solo, “White Christmas.” The pro gram was in charge of Mrs. Fred Grogan. A Christmas tree and the ex change of gifts were enjoyed. Mrs. Glazener, teacher, was presented with a gift of pottery from the class. Refreshments and decorations carried out the Christmas idea. Paper corporation. Mr. Wilson is a graduate of Bre vard high school. At present he is employed by A. W. Wheeler and company in Brevard. The couple are making their home temporarily with the bride groom’s mother. ^^NE’S "home may be frail: its roof may shake, the wind may blow through it, the storms may enter, the rain may enter", but at New Year’s even such a home may be alight with cheer. Standing on the threshold of 1944 there is reason to believe that the new chapter has brighter pages for all. Jordan On Christmas Eve Bride And Groom MRS. C. W. ADCOCK, Jr., and Cpl. Adcock, who were married Dec. 4 in Pickens, S. C. Mrs. Adcock was formerly Miss Net tie Galloway, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Galloway, of Rosman. Cpl. Adcock, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Adcock, of Horse Shoe, is stationed at Pine Castle air base, Orlando, Fla. He was on a recent 18-day furlough here with his wife. Summer Visitor Here Dies In Florida Home Mrs. Alice M. Horton, 88 years of age, died at her home in St. Petersburg, Fla., Dec. 22, follow ing a state of ill health for a num ber of years. Funeral service was held in St. Petersburg the follow ing afternoon. Mrs. Horton visited in Brevard for several summers, spending the past two or three summers here at the Aiken home. She was a member of the Three-Quarter Century club, a past president of the New York State Society, and a member of the Presidents’ Un ion. She was born in Maysville, Wis.., in 1855. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Evelyn B. Rittenhouse, a grand daughter, Mrs. R. H. Boardman, and two great grandchildren, all of St. Petersburg. United In Pretty Ceremony At Calvert Baptist Church Near Here Miss Lucille Fisher Galloway, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas P. Galloway, Jr., of Rosman, be came the bride of Frederick Lor ing Seely Jordan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyda M. Jordan, of Asheville and Norfolk, in a candlelight cere mony Friday afternoon, December 24th, at 4 o’clock at the Calvert Baptist church. The wedding took place on the 35th wedding anni versary of the bride’s parents. Rev. J. R. Owen, of Asheville, performed the ceremony before an altar banked with evergreens and leucothea and large floor bas kets of white gladioli. Three sev en-branched candelabra bearing lighted white tapers also were used, and the piano was deco rated with evergreens and an ar rangement of white snapdragons. A program of wedding music was given by Mrs. J. R. Owen, pianist, and Mrs. Eva Israel Duckett, former college room- j mate of the bride. Mrs. Owen played “O Promise Me” and “In dian Love Call” prior to the cere mony, and Mrs. Duckett sang Schubert’s “Ave Maria” and “I Love You Truly.” “Libestraum” by Liszt was played during the ceremony and the traditional wed ding marches were played for the processional and recessional. Bride’s Costume The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, was at tired in a wedding gown of white duchess satin designed with sweet heart neckline and fitted bodice, long sleeves ending in points at the wrists, and a bouffant skirt which ended in a short train. Her only ornament was a single strand of pearls, and her circular finger tip length veil fell from a tiara of orange blossoms. She carried a small Bible covered in white vel vet, to which was attached a pur ple orchid. Mrs. Van Buren Huggins, of Rosman, sister of the bride, served as her matron of honor. She was attired in a gown fashioned like that of the bride, with full skirt of gold marquisette and fitted bo dice of matching lace. Her shoul der-length veil fell from an ar rangement of gold flowers, and she carried a bouquet of lavender and yellow snapdragons tied with matching ribbon. Jo Anne White, young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William White, of Rosman, served as flower girl. Her floor-length gown was of pas tel green taffeta, and she wore a headdress of pale pink rosebuds and net, and carried a white bas ket filled with rose petals. Burder W. Teague, of Brevard, served as the bridegroom's best man, and ushers were Roy Fisher, of Rosman, and Coy Fisher, of Brevard, uncles of the bride, Har vey Souther, of Brevard, and Wil liam White, of Rosman. Reception Is Held After the ceremony an informal reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents. The table was covered with a handsome lace cloth, and centered with a three tiered wedding cake topped with a miniature bridal couple. Ar rangements of pastel snapdragons, and white tapers in crystal holders also were used to decorate the table. Mrs. Burder W. Teague, of Bre vard, and Mrs. Eva Israel Duckett, of Shallotte, presided at the punch bowl, assisted by Mrs. William White. Mrs. Galloway, mother of the bride, wore a dress of horizon blue crepe romaine and a corsage of yellow rosebuds, and Mrs. Jordan, mother of the bridegroom, wore a black crepe dress and a corsage of pink rosebuds. Following the reception the cou ple left for a short wedding trip in the south. For traveling the bride wore a tailored suit of tim ber-brown wool with accessories in soldier blue and brown, and an orchid corsage. The couple will reside in the Pickelsimer apartments in Bre vard. i The bride was graduated from Rosman high school and was an honor graduate of Asheville col lege. At present she is a member of the faculty of the Rosman ele mentary school. The bridegroom was graduated from Grace high school and at tended Hardin-Simmons universi ty for army specialist training. He recently was honorably discharged from the U. S. Army air forces, PENROSE NEWS BY N. L. PONDER J. A. Griffin has been in sou thern Florida for some time at work in the orange orchards and is at home for the vacation days. He expects to return to Florida the first of the year. Mr. and Mrs. Zeno Ponder, of Chattanooga, Tenn., were visit ing Mrs. Ponder’s mother, Mrs. Rustin and other relatives last week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Ray; of De troit, and daughters, Geraldine and Caroline, visited the Ponders here Sunday and Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Bema Anders and little daughter, Patricia, visited Mrs. Anders’ mother, Mrs. P. E. McGuire, and other relatives dur ing Christmas. Miss Geraldine Luther, of Wash ington, D. C., and Miss Wilma Jean Luther, of Baltimore, Md., were visiting their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Holliday, for Christmas. The teachers of Penrose school are to be complimented for the splendid Christmas program they presented at their vacation clos ing. The children on the program showed excellent training and everybody enjoyed the program very much. M. H. Holliday was reported ra ther ill the past week. There is plenty of colds and sickness in the community. Inclement weather, sickness and Christmas visiting caused our Sunday school and preaching at tendance to run low last Sunday. We hope it will be better for next Sunday.
