Miss Patricia Grimshawe Became Bride Of W. R. Lawson Here Sun. Brevard Girl Weds Navy Man In Pretty Ceremony At Episcopal Church Miss Patricia Ernestine Grim shawe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Delaware Grimshawe, of Brevard, became the bride of Wil liam Robert Lawson, Jr., of the U. S. navy, son of Mr. and Mrs. William R. Lawson, of Raleigh, in a ceremony at St. Phillip’s Episco pal church in Brevard Sunday af ternoon, February 20, at 4 o’clock. The Rev. Harry Perry, rector, performed the ceremony in the presence of relatives and friends. The double ring ceremony was used. Nuptial Music Mrs. S. A. Bullock, cnurch organ ist, played the wedding music. Before the ceremony she played Handle’s “Largo,” "Traumerei” and "Liebestraum.” A duet, “O Perfect Love,” was sung by Mrs. J. M. Allison, aunt of the bride, and Mrs. H. R. Bobst. Mrs. Allison sang a solo, “Lord, At Cana’s Wed ding Feast.” The traditional wed ding marches were played as the processional and recessional. The bride entered on the arm of her father, who gave her in marriage. She wore an eggshell stain grown with lace yoke. Her trailing tulle veil, ornamented with a lace band, was caught with orange blossoms. She carried a white prayer book marked with a white orchid, from which were suspended white streamers. Her only ornament was a strand of pearls, a family heirloom. Miss Elizabeth Allison, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor. She wore an ice blue satin dress with long bodice and full skirt. Her Juliette cap of matching material was ornamented with rosebuds and seed pearls. She carried an arm bouquet of pink rosebuds. Richard Holt Grimshawe, direc tor of the air base at Lakeland, Fla., brother of the bride, was the best man. Ushers were Tom Gallo way, Walter Ashworth and Gar land Sledge, of Brevard. Wedding Trip Immediately following the cere mony, the couple left for a wed ding trip of several weeks, after which they will go to Providence, R. I., where the bridegroom will be stationed at Quonset Point. The bride’s going away outfit was a suit of watermelon red, with black topcoat, and accessories and small hat in black. Mrs. Lawson is a graduate of Brevard high school and of Bre vard college. She has been em ployed in the personnel depart ment at Ecusta Paper corporation for some time. Navyman Lawson attended Hugh Morrison high school in Raleigh. He has been in the navy the past four years, and has to his credit a number of military honors and insignia. Garden Club Hears Program On Birds A most interesting program on the subject, “How to keep birds your friends all through the year,” was the main feature of the Feb ruary meeting of the Garden club, which was held last Friday after noon at the home of Mrs. Julius Sader. Mrs. Keith Pooser, program leader, mentioned ways in which to keep birds about the place, such as getting rid of cats, put out bits of string and rags, keep out con tainers of water, plant shrubs. The names of many different varieties of birds were given, and several members gave a list of birds seen in their gardens this month. The members brought an exhibit of house plants to the meeting, and first honor was awarded Mrs. SHE’S A WAC PVT. ROSALIE MARTIN COMBS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Martin, of Brevard, finished her basic training on Jan. 17 at the third WAC train ing center, Fort Oglethorpe, Ga. She is now assigned to duty at the army air base* Bradley Field, Conn. She is a graduate of Bre vard high school. Before enter ing the WAC she was employed by S. F. Allison at the City Mar ket. FIDELIS CLASS WILL MEET FRIDAY EVENING The Fidelis class of the First Baptist Sunday school will meet Friday evening at 8 o’clock at the home of Mrs. K. L. Barkley for the February business and social meeting. Mrs. Joe Poole will be co-hostess. The program will be in charge of Mrs. Ralph Parrish. Walter Straus for the best plant, and second honor to Mrs. Ludwig Straus. Routine business was conducted by the president, Mrs. Sader. Miss Patricia Irene Loftis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. Hume Loftis, of Williamsburg, Va., for mer Brevard residents, was mar ried to Cpl. Lloyd Earl Potter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester W. Potter, of Deavers, Mass., in a ceremony Friday evening at the Williams burg Baptist church. The Rev. Archibald F. Ward, Jr., officiated. The bride wore a blue suit with a corsage of gardenias. Following the ceremony the couple left for Richmond, Va., on a short wedding trip. Cpl. Potter is stationed at Fort Eustis, and Mrs. Potter expects to continue her studies at the College of Wil liam and Mary. Mrs. Potter and her parents made Brevard their home until about five years ago when they moved to Virginia. Social Functions Honor Bride-Elect Mrs. T. G. Moody entertained with an informal reception at her home last Saturday evening, hon oring her cousin and bride-elect, Miss Patricia Grimshawe, whose wedding to William R. Lawson, took place at St. Philip’s Episcopal church in Brevard last Sunday af ternoon. The bride-elect, bride-groom-to be, their attendants, and members of the families of the contracting parties and other relatives com prised the guest list. Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Webb enter tained at dinner on Sunday, honor ing their niece, members of the bridal party and relatives. METHODIST SOCIETY HAS INTERESTING PROGRAM A program of interest pertain ing to students in foreign mission schools was the main feature of the February meeting of the Women's Society of Christian Ser vice of the Methodist church, which was held in the ladies’ par lor of the church last Thursday anernoon. Mrs. E. J. Coltrane gave the missionary discussion, and Mrs. Lula Miller led the responsive reading and the meditation. Included in the business trans actions was the election of a dele gate and alternates to the annual meeting to be in Hickory March 21-23. Miss Alma Trowbridge, president, was elected delegate, and Mrs. W. M. Melton and Mrs. J. E. Loftis, alternates. A commit tee was appointed to investigate the matter of reviving interest in the young people’s work, as fol lows: Mrs, W. M. Melton, Mrs. Oliver Orr and Mrs. Ralph Fisher. BAPTIST CIRCLES HAVE FEBRUARY MEETINGS Circle No. 3 of the First Baptist church held the regular February meeting last Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. John Ford, with Mrs. Julius Sader, chairman, presiding over routine business. Mrs. Howard Wyatt was program leader, assisted by Mrs. H. E. New bury, who reviewed a chapter in the mission study book, “Guide for Community Missions.” The meeting of Circle No. 5 was held at the home of Mrs. W. S. Price, with ten members present. Mrs. A. M. Case was program lead er on the topic, “The Stewards Responsibility in Today’s World.” Other members assisting on the program and the devotionals were Mrs. Guy Dean, Mrs. Excell Loth ery, Mrs. Albert Payne, with Mrs. John Ashworth leading in the closing prayer. Mrs. J. A. Crisp, chairman, conducted routine busi ness. Ten of the members signified their intention of joining the Hos pital Auxiliary. Miss Pocock, of Brevard college faculty, was wel comed as a new member. DEMONSTRATION CLUB HAS GOOD REPORT OF WORK DONE At the February meeting of the Lamb’s Creek Home Demonstra tion club, it was announced that the following work had been ac complished through the different committees: Garments made, 18; stamp and bond sales, $215.50; milk, butter and egg sales, $50.99; 227^2 pounds of pork cured and 36 cans filled, and a number of home furnishing projects. Miss Annabel Teague, with the assistance of Mrs. C. V. Green, gave a demonstration of preparing a seed bed and transplanting. B & P W CLUB MEETING THURSDAY NIGHT AT 7 The Business and Professional Women’s club will meet tonight at the Bryant house at 7 o’clock for the February meeting. Dr. B. W. Loomis, dean of Brevard col lege, will be guest speaker. Demonstration Club Hears Of Gardening The monthly meeting of the Brevard Home Demonstration club was featured by a demonstra tion on gardening by Miss Anna bel Teague. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Ludwig Straus with Mrs. Fritz Straus as hostess. Thirteen members and ten visitors were present, and two new mem bers, Mrs. S. R. Harrington and Mrs. C. S. Dunlop. In her demonstration, Miss Teague showed each step in mak ing a cold frame, and the process of planting and transplanting seed. At the March meeting of the club there will be a special guest, Miss S. Virginia Wilson, assistant extension nutritionist, of Raleigh, who will speak on the subject, “Little or No Meats.” Following a social period and refreshments, the club adjourned to meet in March with Mrs. S. A. Bullock. LITTLE GIRL CELEBRATES 5TH BIRTHDAY WITH PARTY Nancy Jane Shook, small daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs.. Ellard Shook, celebrated her fifth birthday with a party given by her mother at their home near Brevard last Thursday afternoon. Decorations, favors and refresh ments carried out suggestions of Valentine.
