UGH CORN YIELD
EXPECTED FROM
4-H PROJECTS
Little River And Gloucester
Section Club Members
Raising Hybrid Corn
By JULIAN A GLAZENER,
County Agent
Bobbie Jean Nicholson and
John Edwards, 4-II club members
of the Little River community,
and Lionell McCall, 4-H member
of the Gloucester section, have
corn projects that should set some
very high 4-H corn yields in the
county this fall.
Each of the three members
planted one acre of U. S. 282 yel
low hybrid corn. Soil preparation,
fertilization and cultural practices
were pretty well carried out as
recommended by the Agronomy
Extension specialist of State col
lege and the county agent.
An estimate of the stalks per
acre showed John to have 9,600,
Lionell 10,500 and Bobbie Jean
15,500. Should there be no storm
damage and the number of stalks
produce matured ears of corn
their yields will likely range from
90 to 140 bushels per acre. Time
will tell. All projects are looking
fine at the present time.
