Bob Gash _._8-1-ltc ELECTRIFY YOUR GUITAR—We have music instrument ampli fiers and attachments to electri CANDIDATES NOW BEING SELECTED Eastern Star’s Popularity Contest To Get Underway On August 9 Nominations are being made this week for Miss Rosman, Miss Ecusta, and Miss Brevard, to be chosen in the Eastern Star’s pop ularity contest, it is announced. The contest will begin August 9th., and will close August 30th. Any girl in Transylvania county who is single and over 16 years of age, is eligible for nomination in one of the three local contests. Miss Rosman will be chosen from the upper end of the county, Miss Ecusta must be an employee of Ecusta Paper corporation, and Miss Brevard will be elected from Brevard and vicinity. To Be Named Next Week A list of candidates, and loca tion of jars where votes may be placed will be announced next week. Prizes will also be an nounced later. Jars will be put in places of business throughout the county, where votes, at five cents each, may be cast. Funds raised from the contest will be added to the Masonic Temple building fund. It is hoped that an entertain ment will terminate the contest, the committee for arrangements announces. At that time one of the winners of the local contests will be named Miss Transylvania. Tuesday Night’s Results Last Tuesday night the Ameri can Legion nine defeated the Pulp Mill team 13 to 5 in the first game and the Baptist church team nosed out the Champagne club 17 to 16 in a lengthy slugfest. Marshall Teague was the leading hitter for the Legionnaires with 3 for 4, being closely followed by “Chick” Loftis, who had 4 for 5. For the losers, Holt and Kilpat rick had 1 for 3. Mason and McAuley were the batting stars for Baptist church, the former having 2 for 3 and the latter, 3 for 4. THREE CONCERTS (Continued From Page One) opera, “The Mikado”, and two dis tinguished guest artists’ pro grams. Last Thursday night Mark Wollner, internationally known concert violinist, delighted the campers and their guests with an unusually interesting recital of ancient and modern music for vio lin. On Saturday night, the campers gave a finished performance of “The Mikado” in the high school auditorium here, and repeated the presentation at Hendersonville on Monday night. O’Neil Directed Band Last Sunday both concert bands of the Transylvania Music School Camp went into action. In the af ternoon, Major J. B. O’Neal, assist-1 ant director of Transylvania, con ducted one of the concert bands before a capacity crowd, which featured a baritone solo by Mer rill Wilson, of Fort Pierce, Fla., and a brilliant demonstration of baton twirling by Robert Walker, of Asheville. The Sunday evening band program was given by the Ecusta band. John Eversman, Har old T. Casterton, and Dorothy L. Parker shared the conducting hon ors for the concert. The fifth program in the faculty series at Transylvania was present ed Tuesday night, featuring Ro mine G. Hamilton, violinist, with Louise Nelson Pfohl at the piano. Mr. Hamilton is from the music department, Ohio Wesleyan uni versity, and will be the Concert meister of the Brevard Festival Little Symphony which will play here as a feature of the Brevard Festival on August 9th., 10th. and 11th. Two Autos Badly Damaged In Wrecks On Saturday Night Two automobiles were badly damaged in wrecks here in the county last Saturday night. A Chevrolet, owned by George Bi kas and driven by Russell Green, failed to make the curve at the Smile Oil service station on the Brevard-Pisgah Forest highway and turned over around 11:00 p. m. Green and a companion were un injured. Archie Whitmire, of Rosman, ran off Mill hill on highway No. 276 beyond Powell store.
