In this proposed affray, the Methodist men of the Brevard Methodist church will tangle with the men of the First Baptist church. Eddie Varner, president of the Methodist men, is the general chairman and announces the fol lowing committee chairmen: George Perkins, Jr., chairman of game arrangements; Hall Smith, Jr., chairman of ticket sales; and John Anderson, in charge of pub licity. Coman Hamilton is heading the Baptist group, and has reliably re ported that he has a number of "pros” who will be thrown against the Methodists on February 23. To keep peace and harmony dur ing the exciting battle, both groups have agreed that a large number of Presbyterians should be called in to officiate. Two outstanding events are be ing arranged for half-time activi ties. Walter Straus and Buddy Oates, two of Western North Car olina’s champion ping-pong play ers, will put on a table tennis ex hibition, which will be followed by an archery exhibition by 0. K. Smathers, champion of North Car olina and the Southeast . Proceeds from the game will go TOTALS ARE GIVEN ON FOREST HUNTS Kill Per Hunter Was Better In 1950 Season Than Previous Year A final tabulation of results of the 1950 big-game hunt on the Pis gah district of the Pisgah National Forest are released today by the Southern region office of the U. S. Forestry service. A total of 1,315 hunters partic ipated on the hunts in the eight areas, killing 174 deer and four bears. The hunter-kill percentage was 13.5, which was an increase of 3.5 per cent over last year, Ranger W. P. Duncan announces. The kill by number of points is as follows: Forty-five deer with 2 points; 10 deer with 3 points; 28 deer with 4 points; 7 deer with 5 points; 18 deer with 6 points; 14 deer with 7 point; 40 deer with 8 points; 7 deer with 9 points; 3 deer with 10 points; 2 deer with 11 points, mak ing a grand total of 174 deer slain. “In spite of the bad weather, the hunt was very successful and the deer were in good condition,” Ranger Duncan declared. TORNADOES PLAY AWAY FROM HOME Travel . To Gardner-Webb Thursday; Asheville On Next Tuesday — Brevard college cagers will con tinue to play away from home dur ing the coming week. On Thursday night the Torna does travel to Boiling Springs to meet the powerful Gardner-Webb team in a conference game. Next Tuesday night the local will go over to Asheville for/ an engagement with Asheville-Bilt more. The remaining schedule for the season is as follows: February 15—Mars Hill here. February 17—Lees-McRae there. In the past week Brevard lost a good game to Young Harris, which was an overtime affray, and to Mars Hill. WILDLIFE CLUB MEETS THURSDAY Malcolm Edwards Will Dis cuss Game Outlook; To Also Show Movies Discussion of the game outlook for this section by Malcolm Ed wards, regional protector for the state, will feature the Thursday night meeting of the Transylvania Wildlife club to be held in the city hall assembly room at 8 o’clock. After the business session, a color picture: “Building of Fon tana,’’ will be shown by Lloyd Bur hans. Several matters of importance to local fishermen and hunters are to come up at the meeting, ac cording to Dr. Verne C. Hill, pres ident. To Conduct Model Airplane Contest Lloyd Burhans of the Hobby and I Sport shop has announced this week that his firm is sponsoring a model airplane construction con test for the young folks of the county. The contest will run from February 10 through March 10, the entries to be judged on March 15 and prizes, eight of them, will be awarded on Saturday, March 17, at the Hobby and Sport shop. Mr. Burhans said that many boys and a few girls have been build ing model planes and he felt that a contest of this type will encour age them to do their very best in building their models. Age groups are: elementary school children through the sixth grade, and junior high students in grades 7, 8 and 9. Separate prizes will be awarded for solid models and hollow or covered models. Kits are permit ted (excluding the simple assem bly types) but no actual help from adults can be had. However, sug gestions of an experienced model builder can be used. The rules and application forms are being distributed to the schools, Scout groups and other youth organizations. For addition al information, call Mr. Burhans at 638. The kits or materials need not necessarily be purchased from the Hobby and Sport shop. for the purchase of equipment for the two churches. Admission is 50 cents for students and $1.00 for adults, and members of the two churches have tickets for sale.
