HOMECOMING AT ENON
Sunday, Sept. 23, is homecoming
at Enon Baptist church and we are
hoping for a large crowd. Every
one is invited to bring a basket
•and come out and eat with us and
let’s have a big time together. A
line program is planned for the
whole day. Sunday school will be
at the regular hour and at 11:30 a.
in. there will be a program of songs
given by the primaries, juniors
and intermediates, directed by Miss
Elizabeth Whitmire and Gladys
Wilson.
Rev. Walter McGuire will de
liver the morning service and after
his sermon, dinner will be spread.
After dinner a piano solo “Wor
ship The King,” will be played by
little Ronnie Pace, and Rev. How
ard Hall, of 2nd Baptist church,
of Brevard, will be in charge of
the devotional service and after
this there will be a song service
of the following groups:
The Friendly Five, Bud and Ray
Talley, The Harmon Quartet, Dan
ielson Girls, duets by Gladys Wil
son and Mrs. Faye Simms, Roy
Shelton Trio. N. L. Ponder, Jr.,
will be master of ceremonies in
the afternoon service.

Mrs. Miriam Corbin, of Holly
wood, Fla., is visiting relatives and
friends here.
Mrs. Fulton Holliday is back
home after a week stay in Tran
sylvania hospital.
Mrs. Sophia Hammit had as her
recent guests, Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Fowler of Landrum, S. C., and Mrs.
S. D. Atkins, of Greer, S. C.
Miss Molly Siniard, of Brevard,
spent Thursday night with Miss
Barbara Talley.

Mrs. Ivan Byars will be hostess

o’clock on Wednesday, September

The Glady Branch club meets
next Thursday, September 27, at
2 o’clock with Mrs. Spalding Mc
Intosh.
Holliday fell and broke her arm
last week. Hope her arm will soon
be all right again.
We wish to extend our deepest
sympathy to Mrs. Sutton Wilson on
the loss of her brother in Danville.

Brevard Kiwanians Erect New Signs

Members of the Brevard Kiwanis club became dissatisfied with
their signs on the highways leading into Brevard and President J. F.
Aycock and other members of the club decided to do something about
it. Above the group is erecting a new sign at Green Acres on High
way 64, just at the city limits. RAY HOOPER is improving the land
scape with a power mower; PRESIDENT AYCOCK is straightening
the sign; while DR. NORMAN BOYER is packing dirt around the
base. KIWAN1AN JULIAN GLAZENER took the pic and assisted
with the work.

Two Hendersonville Men
Named By Judge Pless To
Operate Business
Judge J. Will Pless, of Marion,
has issued an order establishing a
peimanent, operating receivership
for Sky Brook Farms, Inc. The
order was issued at the request of
the corporation in answer to an
action brought against it by the
Quality Tire Co., of Hendersonville
i on the allegation of an account due
! the tire company.
F. V. Hunter of the State Trust
company and L. B. Prince, Hen
dersonville attorney, were named
as co-receivers by Judge Pless.
They were “empowered to take
into their possession and control
all and singular the property and
assets of the corporation.”
The order also directed the co
ceivers to “continue the opera
tion of the business as a going
concern,” and directed an ac
counting of assets and liabilities
tc. Judge Pless in 30 days.
I The corporation owns and op
| erates a frozen food processing
i plant in Hendersonville and a
! dairy business.
A lack of operating capital was
given as the reason for the re
quest for the receivership ip the
corporation’s answer. The “defend
ant has been unable to operate its
business at full capacity because
of a lack of sufficient operating
j capital,” the answer stated.
The answer further stated “that
I the defendant has assets, real and
i personal, of the fair market value
i of more than $1,000,000 with lia
j bilities amounting to more than
|$800,000.”
Listed as liabilities in the an
swer were:, a first mortgage held
by the Reconstruction Finance Cor
poration for $460,000; unsecured
[claims of approximately $150,000.

Rev. F. A. Raines announced
that a revival would start at Selica
Sunday morning. The public is in
vited to attend.
Rev. D. H. Hawkins preached
the last sermon of this conference
year Sunday night at Selica. We
aie hoping they send him and Mrs.
Hawkins back another year.
Mis. Robert Rogers is still im
proving at her home here.
Jim Mull, who has been on the j
sick list for sometime, and friends j
visited his son, Elzie, in Charlotte j
on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Potts, of
Norton, and sons were guests of
Mrs. Potts’ sister, Mrs. Frank
Stewart and family Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rigdon, of
Jackson county, were recent guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ashe.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Barton, a son, at their home here.
Mrs. J. M. McKinney and Miss
Nellie McKinney are both on the
sick list.
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Miller, of
Little River, visited in our section
one day last week.
We are sorry to lose Mrs. Emma
Fenwicke, who died on Saturday,
and extend our sympathy to her
bereaved family.
Mr. and Mrs. Avery Barton have
sold their residence here and
moved to Aiken, S. C. Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Hyde, of Belmont, bought
the Barton place and moved last
week.

At the box supper held at the
Lake Toxaway schoelhouse on the
evening of Sept. 14th, the sum of
$217,25 was realized from the sale
of the boxes and cakes. This, with
a donation of $100 by our good
ftiends, Mr. and Mrs. Maltz, made
a total of $317.25, for which we
are deeply grateful to each and
every one for helping to make this
affair such a success.
This supper was sponsored by the
O. S, W. club and the Lake Toxa
way community club, the proceeds
to be used to purchase playground
equipment for the school.
It was a very enjoyable occasion
for all present.
Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Barrett and
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Hicks and
daughter, Jenene, of Asheville,
were guests Sunday of Mr. and
Mrs. Vincent Owen and A. J. Lee.
Joe Owen, who is stationed with
the U. S. army in Oklahoma, spent
last week with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Ben Owen.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill McNeely and
little son, of Aiken, S. C., spent the
week end with his mother, Mrs.
Walter McNeely, Sr., and other rel
atives here.
Miss Jolene Cash spent Sunday
night with Rev. and Mrs. Hawkins
in Brevard.

children, Bonnie, Judy, Darrel and
Glenda, of Franklin, visited Mr.
and Mrs. H. D. Lee and other rela
tives here Sunday.

Dies In Virginia
Marvin W. Siddle died suddenly
at his home in Danville, Va., on
Sunday, according to word re
ceive here. Death was attributed
tc a heart attack, and interment
v/as in the Mount View cemetery.
A member of an old prominent
family of Caswell county, Mr. Sid
dle had many friends and relatives
here where he frequently visited.
Mr. Siddle had been associated
with tobacco warehouses in Dan
ville for the past 18 years.
Survivors include one son, Mar
vin Noel Siddle, an army pilot sta
tioned in Japan, three sisters, Mrs.
Sutton Wilson, of Brevard; Mrs.
W. R. Jones and Mrs. W. C. Yar
brough, of Yanceyville, also a num
ber of nieces and nephews.
