Anderson I Rambling With The Sports Editor ! GOOD CLUB . . . About 22 mountain climbers reported a fine time last Sunday afteni4j|0 when thfe newly organized hikers’ club went up on top of Lookup Glass Rock in the Pisgah. The group was led by Charles Moore and wildlife specialist Charles Coffin. They pointed out several deer and Mr. Coffin spotted some signs of bears having been in the vicinity. The hikers were yelling for more and a trip to the Sherwood Forest area is planned for this Saturday. ODDS AND ENDS . . . Transylvania football fans galore attended the Clemson-Wake Forest football game on Saturday, but we must confess we enjoyed listening to the Duke Tech game in the stands more than we did watching the Deacons play on the field. This went double for Rev. Julian Holmes . . . THE WINNERS . . . Lessie Sorrells last week picked eight out of 11 winners in our football contest. Lessie missed the score of the Brevard-Mars Hill game by five points taking first place and winning three tickets to the Co-Ed or Clemson. Mrs. Eugene King will get two tickets, compliments of Managers Carter and Shiflet, for her second place entry. Mrs. King also picked eight winners but missed the score by eight points. THIS WEEK’S CONTEST ... Be sure to enter our contest. It is becoming more difficult each week to pick a winner, but you might win yourself some theatre tickets with the compliments of Mannagers Carter and Shiflet of the Clemson and the Co-Ed. All you have to do is to pick the winners of the 11 games listed below and guess only the score of the Carolina-Virginia game. State Wm. & Mary vs. VPI Blue Devils Win Eighth Game By Defeating Mars Hill, 14-0 Good Crowd Out For Par ents* Night. Grant And McGaha Are Stars The Brevard Blue Devils won their eighth game of the season here Monday night by trouncing the Wildcats of Mars Hill to the tune of 14-0. In spite of the cold weather, a good crowd turned out to see the Blue Devils in action and to par ticipate in the events of Parents’ night. During half-time the fathers and mothers of the team, cheer leaders, etc., were introduced by the boys themselves, who were presented by Bob Kimzey, Jr., pres ident of the Monogram club. The game was never in doubt. The once-beaten Brevard aggrega tion—losers only to Waynesville this year—proved too rugged on de fense for Mars Hill’s T-offense. Time and again Harold Higgins, Mars Hill’s stellar T-quarterback, was unable to unlimber his aerial arm due to the hard-charging Blue Devils. And Mars Hill has depend ed mostly on passing this year. Brevard, playing without the ser vices of its brilliant halfback Carl Compton who is out with injuries, found a top-notch runner in Co Captain Graham Grant as well as a top pass-snatcher in end Gene Mc Gaha. Both boys proved smooth in keeping the Blue Devils’ grid ma chine rolling. —Turn To Page Five Local Jayvees Will Play Hendersonville PUN THURSDAY AFTERNOON GAME AT 2:30 O’CLOCK Proceeds To Go To Benefit Hospital Fund.
