Farmers Now Electing PMA Committeemen In Townships List Of Candidates In Each Area Given. Balloting By Mail Transylvania farmers are now voting by mail for PMA communi ty committeemen in each of the eight townships of the county. Ballots, listing 10 candidates in each of the townships, have been mailed out, and they are to be re turned by Dec. 8th. On December 14th, the high man in each commu nity—who are the official dele gates, will come into the office here and select the county PMA com mittee. The secretary, Mrs. Julia West wood, explains that in each com munity the farmer receiving the highest number of ballots will be declared the chairman and the next highest will be the vice chairman. The next will be the regular mem ber and so on down to the second alternate, she states. The same ap plies to the delegates. The five committeemen in each community serve all during the year, while the delegates only elect the county committee. LEE NORTON OAKLAND — This writer would like to express appreciation to the many friends who were so thought ful on the occasion of her 85th birthday last Saturday. The lovely gifts and cards from friends throughout the county were indeed appreciated. Mrs. Maggie Nicholson spent sev eral days last week at Sapphire with her brother, Waite Reid. Rev. and Mrs. Lester Williams, of Georgia, who are recovering from injuries due to an auto acci dent, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hinkle Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert W. Redd and Mr. and Mrs. Lester Fuller, of Sarasota, Fla., spent the Thanks giving holidays here at their sum mer home on Laurel Drive. Lane Sanders, of Goldsboro, spent Thanksgving in West Ashe ville and here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. S. Sanders. Mrs. Goodell, of Quebec, was a guest of Mrs. H. E. Greer at Bear wallow Springs one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Reid called on Mr. and Mrs. Albert Coster in Hendersonville last week. The Cos ters have moved there from Wash ington, D. C. Mrs. Pick Nicholson was called to Seneca, S. C., Sunday, due to the death of her father, Anderson Chandler, who had been in ill health for several months. Mr. and Mrs. James T. Harrison, of Sapphire, visited the latter’s mother, Mrs. Belzie Nicholson, who was quite ill but improved. Lane Sanders visited Pick Nich olson at the hospital in Asheville Friday and reported him recover ing from his operation. Mr. Sanders was also a guest of his uncle, Clar ence Norton, in Wilson, last week. Mrs. Troy McDevitt and infant son have returned home from Tran sylvania Community hospital. Frank Fisher, who has employ ment at Ecusta and lives in Bre vard, is spending his two weeks’ va cation at his home here. Ralph E. Petrikin has returned from a business trip to Elkin. Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Smith, of Sarasota, Fla., who were guests last summer of the Dan Reids in Oakland, report the weather chilly Brahman Bull On Transylvania Farm The registered Brahman bull, above, named “Rosmanis owned by T. P. Galloway and C. C. Garren of the Calvert section and was purchased from the Circle M ranch near Salisbury, breeders of reg istered Brahman cattle. Mr. Galloway now has a herd of 14 half Brahman cattle, sired by the bull above. Weiss Named To Airmen’s Group In Duke R.O.T.C. Alfred Hans Weiss, Jr., of Bre vard, is one of 23 Duke university Air Force R. 0. T. C. students just initiated into the William A. Saily squadron of the Arnold air society. Membership in the national fra ternal organization is limited to junior and senior A.R.O.T.C. stu dents and is based on interest in the U. S. Air Force. The Duke chapter was formed last year and was named in honor of William A. Sally, Duke class of ’41, who was the first Duke alumnus killed while serving in the Air Corps dur ing World War II. The Arnold air society is a na tional military fraternal organiza tion designed to recognize and de velop outstanding leadership and in their home city. Mrs. Mary Burgess, a patient at the Rutherfordton hospital, has re turned to her home in a much im proved condition. WCUNC Alumnae To Hold Meeting Here All alumnae and former stu dents of the Woman’s College, University of North Carolina, are invited to the fall meeting which will be held Friday night, November 30, at 7:30 in the par lor at Taylor Hall, Brevard col lege. The business meeting will be followed by a social hour. Miss Lois Frazier is president and Mrs. Anna Holliday is the sec retary. cooperation among the Air Force R.O.T.C. throughout the nation. East with said line to a stake, its corner, then North 31 East with said line about 40 poles to a white oak on top of a ridge near some large rocks to G. M. Woods line, thence down and with the meanders of the top of said ridge and with said Woods line to a white pine, Woods cor ner, thence with his line down said ridge about 64 poles to a stake on the bank of the creek, Condi tional corner between I. C. Jones and P. G. Jones, thence up said creek to the forks of said branch, thence up the South fork of said branch running up on the South East side of I. C. Jones house to a stake in the old line, thence South 60 East with said line to the Be ginning. Containing 20 acres more or less. Being that land conveyed to R. N. Jones, November 3, 1905, by P. G. Jones and wife, Susie Jones, deed recorded in Book 24 on page 151 in the office of the Register of Deeds for Transylvania County. Beginning on a stake on the top of a ridge in I. C. Jones line, runs up the top of the ridge a marked line, thence with the top of the mountain to C. C. Banther’s line, thence runs with C. C. Banthers line to R. N. Jones line, thence with R. N. Jones and I. C. Jones line to the Beginning, containing 10 acres more or less. Being that land deeded to R. N. Jones by A. S. Owens and G. L. Owens, dated Sep tember 28, 1906, and recorded in Book 24 on page 261 in the office of the Register of Deeds for Tran sylvania County. Beginning on a stone, the begin ning corner of the said R. N. Jones home place and in the line of Sam Owen and runs West 20 poles to a stake in a branch on a shoal with a maple witness, then South 20 poles to a stake crossing the road, then East 26 poles to a stake at a chestnut stump in Sam Owen line, then with his line North 10 West 20 poles to the Beginning, contain ing 2 3-4 acres, it being part of the grant No. 500 to M. M. Bryant. Be ing that land conveyed by J. W. Jones and wife, Mary J. Jones to R. N.
