Reynolds And Emory Gain j The Ecusta bowlers in the WNC ten pin league are still out on top in the tight race with a record i of 32 wins and 16 losses, while the second place Stikeleather keglers have 29-19. During the past week, Ecusta downed Gloverleaf Drive-In by a 2-1 count, while Transylvania's j other team in the league, the Amer | ican Legion, dropped three games I to Hendrix. t The Ecusta Echo this week gave a good account of reasons why the team is doing so well this season: “We are proud to report that Ecusta’s two leading bowlers, Bruce Reynolds and John Emory have also gained ground during this time in the race for individual per formance honors. Bruce has moved up to fifth place for individual hon ors with an average of 186 33 pins per game for 42 games bowled, while John, who was the league's fifteenth leading bowler on Tues day, November 13th, has shown the gs.vatest£\to?rovement in moving up to sixth Viace in the personal per formance standings with an aver age of 186-15 pins per game for 39 games bowled. “However it takes five good bowlers to make a team and some 4earns list as many as ten mem bers although only five men per form at a time. We feel we have a nucleus of the best bowlers in the league in the seven men that make ip our Ecusta team's roster, cspe cially when each of them post an individual average above the 170 pin game mark. Lewis Meece has a 177-18 pins average for 33 games. Joe Lavell 176.29 pins for 30 games. I’d Lass 174.14 for 30 games, Ch>'is Rogers 173.9 for 33 games and Ran dall Lankford 212 pins for 3 games bowled.'’ TRY THE TIMES WANT ADS B PRINTING! First Game In ’52 With Mars Hill Brevard high basketball players are taking a 14-day holiday now but Coach Marshall Teague says practice will get underway again January 4th. "We have 20 games on slate dur ing January and February for one of the hardest campaigns in re cent years,” the coach states. The Blue Devils are as yet un defeated but they have played only one game which was with the Ben happen Little Deacons. Both the varsity and junior varsity teams won. Brevard’s girls have potentially a good team, Teague says. Candi dates who have looked good in drills, both intra-squad and in two contests against the Brevard col lege girls are: Reece, Siniard, Fer gerson, Horton, M. Fortune, Whit aker and Keener at forwards. Guards who have shown good form are Mann, Daniels, Ann Cudd, Pat \ Cudd, Hudson and Marshall. The Blue Devils romped over Ben Lippen and looked good at times in their 47-36 win. Eubanks and Smith led the scoring with 13 and 14 points respectively. Poteet, Cudd, Bob Kimzey, and Bryson looked good on rebounding and iheir floor games were outstand ing. In the first game against Ben I.iopen's jayvees, the Blue Imps served notice they would be hard to handle again this year. They took a 10-point lead in the first few minutes and went on to win 31 to 17. Jim Kimzey was outstanding [or the Brevard team. The strong Mars Hill cage forces wiU be Brevard’s first foe in 1952 The game will be played on the Brevard college floor January 8th. starting at 7:30.
