Members of the organization are going from door to door and are taking orders for finest quality bal sams, cut in sizes from two to 10 feet, George Perkins, Jr., chairman of the project, announces. Trees are also being sold in the building next to Galloway’s cafe, which was formerly occupied by Kings bakery. The public is invited to inspect the samples and to note the display in the window. “This is another non-profit proj ect of the Jaycees, and funds re alized will go to decorate the town at Christmas time and to pay for the current for the multi-colored lights,” the chairman states. Orders for trees may be placed with any Jaycee or Jaycette and de liveries will be made whenever specified, it is stated. THOMAS R. ELLER (Continued From Page One) months. In November, 1945, he was released to inactive duty and sub sequently was elected first presi-* dent of the civilian association of the 737 Tank battalion. iMr. Eller entered the University of North Carolina in 1946 and re ceived his AB degree in 1949. He was president of the student body at the university in 1947-’48 and was tapped into the highest schol arship and leadership organizatfoh, the Golden Fleece, as a sophomore. He was tapped as a member of the Order of the Holy Grail and in 1948 received the highest student award for leadership and honor, the John J. Parker medal. At the university, he was also a member of Delta Sig ma Pi commerce fraternity. Mr. Eller entered law school at the university in 1949 and was pres ident of the first year law class. He passed the N. C. bar examination in 1951, three months prior to gradua tion. He was a member of Phi Del ta Phi legal fraternity. For three summers Mr. Eller did research work for the Institute of Government and for the American Legion as counselor for the Boys’ State program. Mr. Eller was recalled to active duty in the army in June, 1951, and served as assistant staff judge advocate in charge of claims divis ion at Fort Jackson, S. C. For six weeks he was given temporary du ty as special prosecutor at Camp Gordon, Ga. Mr. Eller was sent to the Far East in January, 1952, and was as signed to the Second Infantry di vision in Korea. He led a tank pla toon in combat in Kumwha-Sniper Ridge area for approximately 45 days. Assigned as assistant division staff judge advocate of the Second Infantry division, Mr. Eller was prosecutor or defense counsel in over 100 cases before general courts martial. Mr. Eller organized and conduct ed front-line lectures on military justice, in one case going to Koje-( do island to give lectures on mili tary justice to the troops there. He received the Bronze Star for this. He was also awarded the Korean service medal with one battle star and the United Nations medal. Mr. Eller’s wife is the former Miss Carolyn Kimzey.and they have one child. At the present time they are residing with Mrs. Eller’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Kimzey. Brown Stars On Hunting Trip With Veterans From California Hospital Cpl. Dwight S. Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Brown, who lost both of his legs in Korean fighting, starred on a hunting trip in Cali fornia last week and received a nice write up in several of the Cali fornia daily papers. With 23 navy and marine veter ans, who were all wounded in Ko rea, young Brown went pheasant, duck or geese hunting at Klamath Falls, California, and according to the paper, “shooting honors went to the only double-amputee in the party—Cpl. Brown.” The article continues: ‘‘Cpl. Brown came on the hunting trip in a wheel chair. The corporal has both legs off above the knees, and shooting over a dog from the back of a specially rigged jeep, he bag ged seven pheasants.” Young Brown is expected to fly home from the naval hospital in California next week to spend the Christmas holidays with his pa rents on the Country Club road. Scouts Of Troop 4 Collecting Nylon Boy Scouts of Troop No. 4 are collecting nylon hose, and all pro ceeds derived from the project will go to buy needed equipment for the boys.
