The hospital family is the team that works together to serve you in what may be the most critical —Turn to Page Eight HEALTH NURSE SHOWS FILM AT P-TA MEETING Pisgah Forest Group To Buy World Books As Memo rial To Teacher A film, “Preface to Life.” shown by the county health nurse, Miss Martha Choate, was featured at the January meeting of the Pisgah Forest Parent-Teacher association. Preceding the film, Miss Choate gave a very interesting talk on “Faith, In Working Together,” in which she illustrated her talk by a blackboard chart. Following the film, Dr. B. A. Stevens, county school supervisor, commented on a number of thoughts, which were brought to mind by the picture. The meeting opened with a pia no selection by Evelyn Taylor and followed by three harmonica num bers presented by Mrs. Jack Rich ards’ harmonica band. Devotionals were given by Helen Sitton, seventh grade pupil of Mrs. Earl Fullbright. During the business session pre sided over by the president, Mrs. C. F. Allison, it was decided to purchase a World Book encyclo pedia for the seventh grade. It will be a memorial to Miss Flora Lyday, deceased seventh grade teacher. The secretary’s report was given by Mrs. Ilene Eller, who also read a resolution of respect for Miss Ly day, as adopted by the P-TA. (Times Staff Photo) Hospital Building Changed In 1875 The old - fashioned method of building hospitals came to an end when, under the initiative of Dr. John S. Billings, assistant surgeon general, special studies were made for the erection of John Hopkins hospital in Baltimore in 1875. Hospital Rules Are Followed To The Letter, No Exceptions No Medicines Or Treatment Given Without Doctor’s Or ders. Strict Visit Hours About the only hospital rules at the Transylvania Community DEPENDABLE HEAT IS A HOSPITAL "MUST" We are happy to have had the opportunity of in stalling the modern heating system in the new Harry H. Straus wing of the Transylvania Com munity hospital. Price Piping Co. ASHEVILLE, N. C. hospital with which patients and visitors are familiar are those that have to do with visiting hours. There are more, but not many, and they must be followed. Many people do not know, or pretend not to know, for instance, that only under a doctor’s orders can anyone be admitted as a patient. The hos pital reports that occasionally someone will try to enter without authority and has to be turned down. Sometimes they are sick enough to need hospital care, but it’s not unknown for a person to want to take a vacation on his hos pital insurance No medicines or treatment are given at the local hospital except on doctor’s orders. Once patients have been admit ted they can be discharged only upon doctor’s orders. They just I don’t walk out whenever they feel like it. The doctors also prescribe diets and medicines, and while a patient may not always get the food he wants, his meals have been pre pared on instructions from his phy sician. For their own protection, chil dren under 12 years of age cannot go to the hospital as visitors. Visiting is permitted at the Tran sylvania Community hospital dur ing certain hours in the mornings, afternoons and evenings. The new schedule will be posted when the addition is opened this week end. For the sake of the patient and hospital routine, it is imperative that visitors abide by the schedule. SO WE’RE FUNNY If a woman wears gay colors, rouge and a startling hat, a man hesitates to take her out. It may be that you’re getting a special diet. These diets are prescribed by doctors for a particular illness of a patient and they are given in dividual attention in the kitchen. Some patients cannot have sugar in their food, others no salt, while some require liquid or soft diets. The color of the card with each tray is a guide to the diet.
