Cocker Spaniel Is Best In Show Ch. Carmur’s Rise and Shine rests his paws on the trophy which was awarded him in New York as best in show at the 78th annual Westminster Kennel Club extravaganza in Madison Square Garden. Ted Young, handler of 'the winner, is justly proud of the two-year old cocker spaniel, owned and bred by Mrs. Carl E. Morgan, of High Point, N. C. Cup at right was awarded the dog earlier as best of breed. The topic of challenge will be “Straight from the Shoulder Punching from the Bible to Youth.” Recent legislation allows United States cotton farmers to plant 21, 379,358 acres of upland cotton in 1954, an increase of 3,468,910 acres over that authorized earlier. Supper And Awards Presentation For Cub Scouts At Country Club Draws 75 Movies Also Shown Boys. List Of Achievements Is Made Seventy-five Cub Scouts of Pack No. 1 and their parents met at the Brevard country ciub for their last meeting, where they enjoyed sup per followed by movies and the pre sentation of awards. Tables for each of the four dens were decorated with place cards and center pieces made by the Cub Scouts. Each table had a birthday cake decorated in the spirit of the 44th anniversary of Scouting. The achievement awards were made as follows: Den 1 — Jimmy Garrett, gold and silver arrow points for bear rank, lion badge with gold and sil ver arrow points; Chip Andrews, gold arrow point; Tommy Glazener, one year service star; Edwin Jones, year service star; Tommy English, year service star; and Mike Baker, bobcat award. Den 2 — Jim Winget, lion badge with gold and silver arrow points; E. W. Whitmire, gold arrow point.
