Little River Community News Original Three-Act Comedy To Be Given At Community Club Meet Thurs. Night Program To Be Preceded By Chicken Supper. Church News Is Reported By MRS. JOHN T. NEAL LITTLE RIVER — “You Didn’t Ask Me,” is the name of the play to be presented at the Little River Community club meeting Thursday night, March 11th at 8:00. The play is an original comedy in three acts written and directed by Mrs. Glan ny Shipman. Preceding the play will be a chicken supper, served from 6 tc 8, after which will be a short busi ness meeting. Mr. Yates from the Farm Bureau, will be on hand to present the new insurance for farmers. Otis Merrill, club presi dent, is anxious for all families in the valley to be present at the meeting whether they come to eat chicken or not. The money made from the supper will be used to build a new community club build ing and recreational center. Prayer For Home Missions Young people observed the sea son of prayer for home missions during the Wednesday evening prayer service at the Little River Baptist church last week. Auxil iaries of the WMS which also ob served a week of prayer for home missions, namely, the Sunbeams, under the leadership of Miss Jean Pickelsimer, the Royal Ambassa dors, under the leadership of Lewis McGee and Juddy McCrary. The girls auxiliaries, junior and inter mediate, sponsored by Mrs. Over ton Mull and Mrs. Neal. Miss Mar tha George presented the GA pro gram. Mrs. Alvin McCrary, spon sor of the YWA, presented her group in the climax to the pro gram. Special music was rendered by Barbara McCall and Sandra George from the Sunbeams and Linda Mull from the Junior GA’s. wms went visiting Thursday night of last week the WMS of the Little River Baptist church visited the ladies of the Turkey Creek Baptist church and presented a program, typical of the work done in the woman’s mis sionary society. The program was under the leadership of Mrs. Glan ny Shipman and special music was furnished by the Little River la dies’ quartet. After the program, and with the encouragement of their pastor, Rev. Earl Blythe, the ladies of the Turkey Creek Baptist church organized a WMS with Mrs. Ed Sentelle as president. Mrs. Mar tin Shipman, superintendent of the Transylvania WMS association, was present and helped in the organi zation of the new society. Youth Forum The young people of the Little River community met Saturday night in the home of the pastor for their first panel discussion. Jean Pickelsimer, Elaine Frady, Arlene Mull and Jack Frady were speak ers on the panel. The attitude of pa rents and children towards each other in case of a misunderstanding was the topic of discussion. Arlene Mull was elected song leader and the next meeting will be held with Jo Ann Shipman at which time “Marriage Problems” will be the subject. Participants on this panel will be Joan McGee, Margaret George, Malcolm Whltener and James Earl Frady. The pastor oi the Little River Baptist church will be moderator. Sunday School Meeting Group 1 of the Transylvania Sun day school association consisting of the following Baptist churches: Calvary, Pisgah Forest, Boylston, Turkey Creek, Enon, Blantyre and Little River, met with the Pisgah Forest church last Sunday after noon. Those attending from the Lit tle River were: Mr. and Mrs. Lewis McGee, Mrs. Weaver Cordell, Mrs Seva Mackey, Larry Payne, Harry Kilstrom and Mr. and Mrs. John T. Neal. Rev. Neal made the inspira tional address on “The Growth of the Kingdom.” Personal Items Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Davis, of Spartanburg, S. C., and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Fowler, of Augusta, Ga., were week end guests of Mr and Mrs. W. M. George. Miss Loie George who has been visiting th: $— Fowlers, has returned to her home in Little River. Mrs. F. E. Merrill entertained with a luncheon party at her home in Hendersonville Thursday in hon or of her mother, Mrs. R. C. Sher rill, of Acme, who is visiting her. Those attending were: Mrs. Over ton Mull, Mrs. Glanny Shipman, Mrs. Neal Hamilton and Mrs. Virgil McCrary. Mr. and Mrs. David Sherrill are the proud parents of a son, David Wayne, born March 2nd. The Sher rills were former residents of Lit tle River and are now living in Bel ton, S. C. Mrs. Paul Baker spent the week end in Asheville with Mr. and Mrs. Richard Medlin. Mr. and Mrs. Leland George are vacationing this week in Daytona Beach, Fla. Miss Mary Jane McCall experi enced a minor operation on her foot in Asheville Saturday. Jimmy Henderson, who is with the air force and stationed in Nor folk, Va., spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Henderson. Winston Merrill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Merrill, and who is work ing in Aiken, S. C., will spend the week end in the valley. Larry Payne, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Payne, of Greenville, spent the week end with his grandmoth er, Mrs. R. A. Payne and the Neals. Mrs. B. F. Orr, of Henderson ville, mother of Mrs. Elmer Kil strom, spent the week with the Kil stroms. Miss Ann Sherwood, of Asheville, was a week end guest of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Mackey. Miss Sher wood is a supervisor in the Bun combe county school system. The Mary Capps circle of the Little River Baptist church will meet March 16th with Mrs. Alma Merrill. The Stella Austin circle will meet March 17th with Mrs. Ken neth Barton. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford McCrary and little Clifton, have returned from a two week visit in Miami and the Keys. The deacons of the Little River Baptist church met with Otis Mer rill last Thursday night. Eight dea cons were present, and discussions to improve the church grounds were made. The following people are on the sick list of our community: Mr. and Mrs. Talve Merrill, Miss Flora and Jethro Merrill, Mrs. Wade Mer rill, Volney Orr, Miss Mary Jane McCall, Mrs. Roscoe McCall and Pelza Hamilton. Mrs. Thalia Shuford has return ed from a visit with her niece, Mrs. Gene Stanbury, in Richmond, Virginia. Mr. and Mrs. David F. Merrill and daughter, Mrs. Gene Cordley, and husband from Easley, were Sunday guests of Miss Sallie Mer rill and Frank Merrill. Mr. Charlie Merrill, who resides with them, is still on the sick list. Mrs. Joe Sitton, of Horse Shoe, grandmother of Charlie Sitton, was buried March 8th. Our sympathy to Mr. Sitton. Miss Lena Rhodes, of the Holly ■ YOUNG PEOPLE’S PARTY HELD FOR CEDAR MT. GROUP Couple Moves Into New Home. Visiting Is Reported By MRS. J. R. WICKLIFFE CEDAR MOUNTAIN — The young pople of the Rocky Hill Bap tist church were entertained with a party last Thursday night at the home of Mrs. B. V. Maxwell. Some 25 boys and girls enjoyed the occa sion. Mr. and Mrs. Garland Merrill have moved into their new home re cently. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Grooms were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Garland Merrill Sunday afternoon. Donald Shipman, of Newport News, Va., visited his family here on the week end. Mrs. Harley Burns is a patient in the Transylvania Community hospital. Her friends wish for her a speedy recovery. E. A. Heath, who spent the win ter in Florence, S. C., has returned here to the home of a daughter, Mrs. Paul K. Jones. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Summey, of Greenwood, S. C., spent the week end with Mrs. Ethel Summey. Elzie Burns, Mr. and Mrs. Perry Burns and Mr. and Mrs. Clannie Monday, of Greenville, S. C., spent Sunday with Mrs. Carrie Burns, who is a patient in Transylvania Community hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bishop and Mr. and Mrs. Seldon Jones spent Sunday afternoon in Greenville, S. C. Miss Helen Jones, of Greenville, S. C., spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Seldon Jones. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lee spent the week end in Laurel, Fla. Mrs. Joseph Jones has returned from Winston-Salem, where she underwent a check-up at the Bap tist hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Wilson and son, Michael, spent Sunday after noon with their aunt, Mrs. Joseph Jones. Springs community died March 8th. It is with sorrow that we hear this news. Harley Merrill journeyed by plane to Umatilla, Fla., where he spent part of last week. While there he visited Mr. and Mrs. Ed ward Zellman. The Loyal Workers Sunday school class had a meeting last Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Donald Merrill. Nineteen members were present. Howell Medford is the teacher of this class. The Little River 4-H club met Monday night at the Community club house with a full attendance. Six new members were brought in to the club. An interesting program was presented by Elaine Frady, the vice president. Projects were discussed. Mrs. Donald Merrill is leader of the girls and Johnnie Bradley is leader of the boys. Among the visitors attending the Sunday morning service at the Ut ile River Baptist church was W. L. Mull, one of Brevard’s merchants and pioneer business men. Mr. Mull was a guest of the Neals. Miss Katherine Moore, of Spar tanburg, spent the past week end with her parents in Little River. Mrs. Perry Grant Reports Much Activity In Blantyre News BLANTYRE — We are sorry to report the death of Mr. Wells, of Leicester, who was visiting in the home of his son, Mr. Ott Wells at Blantyre, at the time and had seem ed quite well until he had a stroke at 7:15 p. m. Saturday. He passed away about 11:00 o’clock that night. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family. Mrs. LaValley, of California, who has been spending some time with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Jack La Valley, here, left last week for her home in California, and Miss Sue LaValley has returned from Chi cago, where she has been for some nonths. He returned this week to Asheville to have the stitches removed. We hope he will soon be well. Mrs. William Gash and little daughter, Judy, visited Mrs. Dovie Teague on Glade Creek last week. Raymond Reed and family, of North Charleston, visited his pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. John Reed here recently. Rev. and Mrs. Carl Fisk, of Greenville, S. C., and also Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Setzer, of Clemson Col lege, S. C., were recent guests of the Reeds here. Mrs. William Gash had the mis fortune of getting her ankle badly sprained a few days ago. We wish her a speedy recovery. Mrs. C. E. Cochrane is ill with flu and so is Mrs. Tom White. We hope they will be well very soon. We miss them both so much at church. The Blantyre WMU has finished nr mission study course. We used the book “Evangeline’s Country,” v hich was very informative and in teresting. We also observed our /eek of prayer last week. Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Setzer, Sr., of Candler, and Mrs. Earl Gray, of Itowah, visited relatives here Sun day. Miss Jewell Reed attended open house at the new Memorial Mis >ion hospital Sunday.
