For The Women Society News and Club Activities FRANCES WALKER, Society Editor — Dial 24111, Night 2-1971 Miss Loftis Honor Guest At Bridal Courtesies Miss Peggy Loftis, bride-elect of Clarence Blythe, of Henderson ville, has beemhonored with several parties recently. Miss Jewel Sentelle was hostess at a miscellaneous shower last Wednesday night in Gaither’s Dog wood room. Some 30 guests were in cluded in the pre-nuptial courtesy. Bridal games were enjoyed after which a tasty dessert course was served. The honoree wore a yellow nylon sheer dress with a corsage of match ing roses. * * * Last Sunday evening a family party honoring Miss Loftis and her fiance was given by Mrs. R. V. Blythe at her home on Chimney Rock road. Mrs. S. T. McCall was co-hostess. A treasure hunt was the main feature of the evening with the honor couple finding their gift at the end of the hunt. The table in the dining room was overlaid with an imported cutwork linen cloth and centered with an ar rangement of summer flowers. Some 30 guests were served tea and accessories. * * * A kitchen shower honoring Miss Loftis was given Monday night by Mrs. John Misenheimer at her apartment at Sapphire Manor. Lilies and roses were used in the decorations. Games were enjoyed and the honoree was presented with a num ber of useful gifts. Fruit punch was served with sandwiches and decorated cakes. Ann Cudd Announces Plans For Her Wedding Miss Mildred Ann Cudd, of 230 West Main street, today announces plans for her marriage to Robert Lee McGuire, of Route 2, Forest Hills, also of Brevard. The marriage will be solemnized on Sunday afternoon, June 20th, at 4 o’clock in the Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian church. The pastor, Rev. John Douglas Smith, will officiate. The parents of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. Forest Bobby Cudd, will en tertain with a reception following the ceremony at their home here. Wedding music will be furnished by Mrs. Melvin Gillespie, organist of Brevard, and Miss Wilda Bell, vocalist, of Asheville. The bride will be given away by her father. Her sister, Miss Patri cia Cudd. will be maid of honor. 'Bridesmaids will be Miss Phyllis Nations of Concord, Miss Faye Ger singer, Nichols, S. C.; Miss Frances Fortune of Brevard, and Miss Shir ley Smith, of Charlotte, cousin of the bride. Sidney Wilson, of Brevard, will be best man. Ushers will be David Cudd, brother of the bride, of Bre vard; Wade McGuire, brother of the groom, of Brevard; William Raines, of Hendersonville; and Ed ward McGaha, of Brevard. A rehearsal dinner party is being given at the Pierce-Moore hotel Saturday evening by Miss Shirley Smith, cousin of the bride-elect; Mrs. L. Z. Howie, maternal grand mother of the bride-elect; Mrs. Clyde Smith, aunt of the bride, all of Charlotte, and Miss Patricia Cudd, sister of the bride, Brevard. Miss Cudd Given Kitchen Shower Miss Ann Cudd, bride-elect, was honored with a kitchen shower by Mrs. Lewis Summey and Mrs. Fred Henson last Monday, May 31st, in Gaither's Dogwood room. A yellow and green color scheme was carried out. The table was ov erlaid with a lace cloth and an ar rangement of yellow iris and lemon lilies. Green tapers flanked the cen terpiece. Games and contests centered around the kitchen theme were en joyed and at the conclusion the honoree had her fortune told and was presented with an array of gifts. Mrs. Jack Gillespie presided at the punch bowl and Mrs. William Raines served cake and ice cream. 0 We wish to announce that we are now doing ra dio and television repairs. Phone 3-3031 341 King Street Lutheran Women At June Meeting See Slides The women of the church of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shep herd held their June meeting at 7 30 Tuesday, June 1, in the assem bly room of the church on Probart street. As a part of the program, which was led by Mrs. David F. Cooper, she showed two color film strips —the first depicting the steps taken in admitting a German refu gee to the western zone, and the helps given him by Lutheran aid; the other explaining about the Lutherans of many languages com-, ing together in Venezuela at this ■ time, and the aid given them in uniting them and building up their j church work by the Lutheran j World action. Plans were made for the congre gational picnic at Camp Straus for all who attended the Vacation Dai ly Bible school, their parents and i families which was held Friday,! June 4, with a covered dish sup-1 per. Mrs. Joe Norman, retiring presi dent, presided and the hostess for the social hour, Mrs. H. E. Jones, served refreshments following the program and business session. Guests included Mrs. Jones’ sister, Mrs. R. K. Rahn, of Rincon, Ga., and Mrs. Charles Jolliff. Bridge Winners Are Named Play at the Ace of Clubs Dupli cate club last Friday night resulted in a tie for first and second place between Mrs. Mildred Scott and Mrs. William Huffman and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Weiss. Third place winners were Mrs. E. E. Fraser, Jr., and Mrs. Doyle Wells. This Friday night at 7:45 will be the monthly master point game. English Chapel Bible School Ends, Revival Being Held The Oak Grove and English Chapel Methodist churches of the Ecusta charge had a successful church vacation Bible school at English Chapel church. Sixty-four were in attendance and 52 had perfect attendance. A large congregation shared in the commencement at Oak Grove church Sunday evening. Mrs. Es ther Mae Severs was director of the school. Rev. W. A. Kerr is the pastor. Revival services are in progress at English Chapel Methodist church. Services each evening at 8 o’clock. Rev. W. A. Kerr, the pas tor, is doing the preaching. Hob son Houck is directing the music. The pastor and members of Eng lish Chapel extend a most cordial invitation to everyone to attend these services. TRY TIMES WANT ADS Jean Parrish Gives Wedding Plans For June 19 Miss Clara Jean Parrish of Bre vard, whose marriage to Michael Brandi of Greenville, S. C., and Bloomfield, N. J., takes place on June 19th, announces plans today for her wedding. The wedding will take place next Saturday evening, 7 o’clock, in the First Baptist church of Brevard. Rev. B. W. Thomason, pastor, will officiate. Nuptial music will be given by Mrs. Marvin Whitmire, soloist, and Mrs. Sue Bosse, organist. The bride will be given in mar riage by her father, Thomas Ralph Parrish. Her two sisters, Misses Patsy and Betty Parrish, both of Brevard, will be maids-of-honor. The bridesmaids will be Miss Kath erine Shannon, Greenville, S. C., Miss Pansy Ridgeway, Manning, S. C., college mates of the bride; Miss Margaret Ann DeBord, Miss Ruth Souther and Miss Jane Ann Hart, all of Brevard. Howard Hock, of Newark, N. J., will be the groom’s best man. Ush ers will be John Dyer, Chickamau ga, Ga., Tommy DeVenney, Charles ton, S. C., Leland Parks, Lockhart, S. C., Bill Chapman, Inman, S. C., Bob Brock, Honea Path, S. C., and Harry Collins, Oak Ridge, Tenn., cousin of the bride. Little Miss Ann Kelley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Kelley, will be the flower girl. Hall Parrish, brother of the bride, will be the ring bearer. Following the ceremony the pa rents of the bride will entertain with a reception at their home on Wilson road. The rehearsal party Friday eve ning will be given by Mr. and Mrs. John A. Ford at their home, Frank lin avenue. Shriners To Have Picnic, Party The annual Shrine club picnic and Ladies’ night party will be held at Connestee Falls at 7 p. m., next Friday, June 18th. A smorgasbord dinner is being prepared under the supervision of Bill Bangs. Reservations by the Shriners should be made with D. T. Aber c 'ombie not later than Thursday night, June 10th. Cut the strips containing buttons and button holes from discarded garments and use them under flys in new garments. This will save much time and labor. WEDS JUNE 27TH — Mrs. Vinessa McCall, of Bre v»rd, announces the engagement and approaching mar riage of her daughter, JENCY LUEVENIA, to Richard Randolph Lambert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh N. Lam bert, also of Brevard. The wedding will take place on Sunday, June 27th, at 2 p. m. in the Mt. Moriah-Cherry - field Baptist church. All relatives and friends of the couple are invited to the wedding. LT. and MRS. CHARLES PETIT, above, were mar ried in the Pickens Presbyterian church on May 28 at 4:30 p. m. The bride was the former Miss Shirley Ann Galloway, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Galloway, of Rosman. Lt. Petit is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Petit, also of Rosman, and is now stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Nuptial Parties Honoring Miss Parrish Held Miss Jean Parrish, whose mar riage to Michael Brandi will take place June 19, was the honor guest at a number of parties during the past week. Mrs. Gus Groce entertained at a canasta party last Thursday night at her home. Three tables were in play and high score went to Miss Betty Parrish and Mrs. James Hol lowell. A pink and white color scheme was carried out with cranberry punch and decorated cakes being served. Miss Parrish was presented a gift of linen by the hostess. * H> * Misses Mary Dean and Jane Ann Hart were co-hostesses at the home of the latter Friday night when they entertained Miss Parrish with a kitchen shower. Bridal games were played with prizes going to Mrs. Gus Groce and Mrs. Bill Norris. A color scheme of green and yel low was carried out in refreshments and decorations. * Tea And Shower For Miss Cudd Saturday A tea and miscellaneous shower honoring Miss Ann Cudd, bride alect of Bob McGuire, was given last Saturday afternoon by Mrs. A. _ Norville at her home on Maple ^ street. Mrs. F. B. Cudd and Mrs. Willis Orittain received at the door, assist ed by Mrs. Harry Loftis. M-s. H. E. Newbury had charge :f the guest book, with a separate egistration for mothers, accompa nied by their daughters. The home was decorated with oink and yellow roses, mock orange blossoms and sweet peas. Upon her arrival Miss Cudd was presented a corsage of pink rosebuds and mock orange blossoms. The conversation piece in deco rations was a bride’s doll wearing white wedding gown and veil. She stood before a background of pink roses under a yellow umbrella to which was attached a wide white satin bow. On a streamer from the bow were two hearts with the names “Ann and Bob” inscribed. The dining table was covered with a lace cloth over yellow and was centered with an arrangement of pink roses, with yellow anthe mus and mock orange blossoms in twined around the crystal candle holders. Mrs. Charles Townsend presided ^ at the punch bowl from 3 to 4 o’clock and Mrs. L. C. Poor poured from 4 to 5. Cherry punch was served with cakes decorated in yel low, pink and white, sandwiches, nuts, olives and cookies. The bride-elect was the recipient of a number of lovely gifts.
