C., also spent the week end with the Cassells. C. Powell, Shirley Ellis, and Weldon Eubanks. Mrs. H. P. Whitmire is spending several days in Winston-Salem with her brother, Moody Current, who has been seriously ill. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mitchell and children spent Sunday visit ing relatives in Greenville, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Mull and children, of Pineville, and Mrs. B. C. Means and children, and Miss JoAnn Holland, of Asheville, were week end guests of Mrs. J. H. Con ner and daughter, Bobbie. Mrs. Charles Petit, of Ft. Jack son, S. C., is spending this week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Galloway. Mr. and Mrs. Carlos Pangle and! daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sisk! and children have returned to their home in Rock Hill, S. White, Jr., of Spartan burg, S. C., was a guest Sunday of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. White, Sr. The Whites were also guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gil Coan in Brevard. On Sunday the party was guests at a birthday dinner honor ing Danny Glazener at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Glazener in Brevard. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Richards and daughters spent the week end in Seneca, S. with Mrs. Richards’ another, Mrs. J. R. Heller. C. L. Gantt, Mr. and Mrs. Der rell Gantt and Ernest Anders were called to Charleston, S. C., Sunday night due to the death of the for mer’s brother, Louie Gantt. Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Carter were their son, Arnold, of Clemson college, Clemson, S. CL, and Mr. and Mrs. Luther Carter, of Seneca, S. C. James Funderburke, of Rock HID, S. C., spent the week end with his wife and son who are vis iting here. Lee Aiken has returned home from Ames, Okla., where he spent a week. He accompanied his broth er, Bay Aiken, Alvin Gillespie and Coy Patterson, who remained in Oklahoma. Joe Staton, who is employed in Greenville, S. C., spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Staton. CpL Charles Whitmire, who has been stationed at Camp Lejeune, is spending a 20-day leave with his another, Mrs. Coy Whitmire and family. Whitmire will report to Washington, D. C., at the expira tion of his leave. Mrs. Arthur Dishman and daugh ter, Evelyn, spent the week end in Nashville, N. C., with the former’s husband. Young Owen will represent the federation at the district contest in Asheville in May. Owen Wins Pisgah Federation Public Speaking Contest, Rites Held For Rosman Man Sunday Cpl. Hubert Callaham Re turns To Home Here After 11 Months In Korea Reuben Alexander Collins, 82, re tired civil engineer, died last Fri day afternoon at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Victor Sigmon, of Rosman, after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Sufe day in the Zion Baptist church. The Rev. Carl Rogers, the Rev. B. W. Thomason and the Rev. J. G. Allred of Lawndale, officiated, and burial was in Whitmire cemetery. Pallbearers were Paul Stroup, A. M. Paxton, Jr., Doyle Moss, Jack Fisher, Bill Nicholson and Nat Townsend. Surviving in addition to Mrs. Sig mon are another daughter, Mrs. Ethel Nicholson of Rosman; two sons, E. M. and W. C. of Rosman; a brother, A. M. of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A native of Macon county, Mr. Collins lived at Rosman for the last 59 years. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Collins. His wife, the former Miss Tina Reece, died about five years ago. Prior to his retirement, he work ed for the Gloucester Lumber Co. here. The family of Reuben Alexander Collins High School Seniors Sponsor ing Carolina Mountain Boys* Show Friday Randall Owen of the Rosman chapter of the Future Farmers of America, won first place in the public speaking contest of the Pis gah Federation FFA, Thursday af ‘ternoon at the Hendersonville high school. He spoke on “Forests, A Vanish ing Heritage.” Brevard FFA placed second. Owen, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Owen, of Lake Toxaway, route 1, will represent the Pisgah Federation FFA in the district con test to be held in May in Asheville. Schools in the Pisgah FFA in clude: Fat Rock, Edneyville, Bre vard, Etowah, Dana, Henderson ville, Rosman, Mills River, and Fletcher. The Rosman chapter also recent ly won first place in the Pisgah Fed eration FFA parliamentary proce dure contest and will also partici pate in the district contest. B. E. Program At High School The Carolina Mountain Boys, of Transylvania county, will present a musical program Friday night, Feb ruary 25, in the Rosman high school auditorium at 8 p. m. Appearing on the program will be Tom Swangin, Roy Chapman, Bob Landreth, Everette Hoxit and Wolfe Rogers. The Carolina Mountain quartet will also participate. Members of the Rosman high school senior class will sell refresh ments. Proceeds will be used for the senior trip to Washington, D. C. Study Course Held A study course on the book "Un der the North Star” by Harold E. Dye, was held Monday night at the Mt. Moriah Calvert Baptist church. The course was under the spon sorship of the WMU and Business Woman’s circle of the church. Those teaching the course were: Miss Avarie Glazener, Mrs. J. W. Glazener, Mrs. Arthur Whitmire, Mrs. Gordon Hardin, Mrs. T. P. Gal loway, Jr., Mrs. Buren Huggins, Mrs. Ralph Paxton and Miss Gene va Paxton. Dinner On Saturday The Ladies Willing Workers of the Rosman Church of God are sponsoring a chicken dinner at the Church of God parsonage Saturday, February 26, beginning at noon and continuing until Saturday night. Adult tickets are $1.00 and chil dren’s tickets are fifty cents. Proceeds will be used for the mis sion quota of the church.
