Little River Community New Improvements Are Made On Homes, Valley Residents Continue Progress - « Setting Up Goals To Be Vot ed On April 7th. HD Club To Meet Wednesday By MRS. JOHN T. NEAL LITTLE RIVER — It was indeed a thrilling experience last Novem ber to be the winning community of Western North Carolina, and many of us wondered with a little sick feeling: Would we keep on working or would we be satisfied to sit back with our laurels? The truth of the situation is that there is more work going on now than there was last year at this time. If you don’t believe this take a look at the work Albert Merrill has been doing to the yard and grounds of the Townsends with his bulldozer, and the Neal Hamilton’s yard and driveway. The Caldwells have also built a quarter of a mile of new road to their lovely remodeled home. T. J. McCall has worked more than six weeks in improving his grounds and yard. Mr. and Mrs. Overton Mull have finished remod eling their home and have moved into it. Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Mull have built two new rooms on to their home and are using them. Mr. and Mrs. Claud MacMahon have start ed building their home on the Is land Cove road. There is also a new house going up on Shipman drive belonging to the son of Will Owenby. The improvements having ibeen done to Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe McCall’s home are too numerous to mention. Mr. and Mrs. Gillard Merrill have painted inside and out in their home. These are just a few of the many things going on. There is a rumor that sometime during the month of May the Little River community will be toured by some of the business men of Ashe ville who sponsored or paid for the ^contest last year. We will be happy to see them I’m sure and show •them our beautiful valley and hap py people. Goals In The Planning A meeting of the officers and leaders was held last week by Otis Merrill, president of the Little River Community club, and a list of goals were planned for 1955. i These goals will be voted on at the next meeting of the club April 7th. Don’t miss this meeting — these goals will simply knock your eye out and, if reached at the end of the year, will surpass anything we have ever done. Remember, “There is no limit to what a community can do, if it wants to.” Youth Choir To Sing The young people of the Little River Baptist church will have charge of the music Sunday morn ing and night at the regular church services.
