ORDER OF THE ARROW
Six Transylvania Scouts and
scooters were inducted into the Or
der of the Arrow, a national broth
erhood of scout honor campers, at
Camp Daniel Boone. Those taken
into the order were Benet S. Hol
man, senior patrol leader of Troop
1; Edward B. Matheson, Jr., and Au
gustine W. Tucker, III, both patrol
leaders of Troop 1; Robert McCrary,
patrol leader of Troop 2; Charles
F. Moore, a member of the Transyl
vania district committee; and Au
gustine W. Tucker, Jr., scoutmaster
of Troop 1 and a member of the
district committee.
The Order of the Arrow is a most
worthwhile adjunct of scouting and
contributes greatly to it in service
projects of one kind or another.
TROOP 1 NEWS
Troop 1 had its annual charter
presentation the night of August 1.
This charter, which was presented,
was the 39th that has been given
to the troop which is the oldest in
the Daniel Boone council, having
been originally chartered in March
1916.
The charter was presented by
Cecil Hill, chairman of the district
organization committee to Julian
Glazener, president of the Brevard
Xiwanis club which sponsors Troop
1. Mr. Glazener in turn gave the
charter to Dr. Earle 0. Bryant,
chairman of the troop committee
who presented it to A. W. Tucker,
Jr., scoutmaster.
Adult membership cards were
presented to Messrs. William F.
Orr, Edgar J. Loftis, Jr., and Henry
McDonald, members of the troop
committee, and to Messrs. Bryant
and Tucker and to F. B. Ayres and
Harry Sellers, Jr., assistant scout
masters and 0. K. Smathers, ex
plorer advisor.
Three members of Troop 1 have
participated in the canoe trips from
Brevard to Long Shoals sponsored
by the Daniel Boone council for Ex
plorers. They are John Allison,
Tommy Gardner and Gus Tucker.
A crew of Explorers sponsored by
Troop 1 will participate in the Ap
palachian Trail hike being put on
by Daniel Boone council the 18th,
19th and 20th.
COURT OF HONOR
August 18, at 7:30 p. m. at Bre
vard First Baptist church a Court
of Honor will be held, with Troop
2 as hosts.
It is hoped that slides taken this
year by the group of Explorers from
Daniel Boone council who made
the trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in
Cimmarron, N. M., will be shown.
These should be of great interest to
all scouts of the Transylvania dis
trict and to their families.
A prize will be awarded to the
troop with the largest turnout of
scouts, family and friends.
