C., were guests during the week end of the former’s broth er and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Winchester. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Shields and daughter, Deanna, of Tryon, spent Sunday as guests of Mr. and Mrs. D. S. Winchester. James Whitmire spent last week in Asheville visiting his brother in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Ed win Kuykendall. George Fortner, of Anderson, S. C., is spending this week as guest of Mr. and Mrs. R. K. Powell. Mr. and Mrs. Mack Collins were Sunday guests of the former’s pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Collins in Bee Log. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Waldrop an nounce the birth of a daughter, Ina Marie, August 20 at their home here. Mrs. Waldrop is the former Miss Gertrude Owen. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jurney, of Silver Spring, Md., are spending this week as guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Collins and other relatives here. The Collins also had as their week end guests, Mr. and Mrs. Seymour Karterganer and daugh ter, Kathy Sue, of Charleston, W. Va., Mrs. Jack Hunter, of Phila delphia, Pa., and Mr. and Mrs. Dix ie Simpson, of Greenville, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Russell and daughter, Ronda, of Waynesville, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Garren. Ray Fisher underwent surgery Monday in Moore General hospital at Swannanoa. Arthur Dishman, of Nashville, spent the week end with his wife and daughter who accompanied him back to Nashville where they will reside. Miss Patricia Burton returned home Sunday from Chapel Hill where she spent two weeks visiting her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Whitmire. She was accompanied home by Mrs. Whit mire, who will spend two weeks here. Mr. and Mrs. Sylvan Hendrix and children, of Troy, Ohio, spent the week end as guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Rev. and Mrs. Carl Pressley were visitors to Cashiers Sunday and the Rev. Pressley preached Sunday night at the Church of God in Cashiers. Mr. and Mrs. Verlin Owen and children and Mr. and Mrs. Verlin Wood were Sunday guests of Mrs. Owen’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Knight in Cullowhee. Mr. and Mrs. Alpha Kelley, of Walhalla, S. CISON DUNN’S ROCK — The Dunn’s Rock community is serving a southern fried chicken dinner in the beautiful setting of Gay Valley camp on Saturday, August 27th, between 6 and 9 p. m. Through the kindness and cooperation of Miss Mary Gwynn, the proprietor of the camp, the facilities of the dining room and kitchen of Gay Valley have been placed at the dis posal of the community and the public can be assured of cool and pleasant surroundings. Mrs. Edwin Tinsley will be ini charge of the kitchen and has an- j nounced the following menu: fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, string beans, corn-on-the-cob, let tuce and tomato salad, rolls, bev erages and cherry cobbler. Tickets are on sale at Gaither’s, Jones’ news stand, Mill Hill grocery, Hy Bunyan grocery, Cedar Mt., and by members of the community. Adults $1.25 and children 75c. There will be music and square dancing in the lodge after the dinner. Specialist Visits Here Miss Rose Elwood Bryan, state extension marketing specialist, was a visitor at the community road side market last Saturday for the jpurpose of giving any needed sug gestions and advice. She was high ly complimentary of the progress shown in this first-year market and of the fine spirit shown by all con cerned, stating that it was one of the best she had visited in the state. We of the community are justly proud of our new market but Miss Elizabeth Davis, the manager, would like to see more people take CARD OF THANKS We deeply appreciate the mmy kind words expressed and the sym pathy shown to us during the long illness and at the death of our loved one. Pastor Elected The Rev. Kermit Reese has been elected pastor of the Dunn’s Rock Baptist church, succeeding the Rev. Jack Taylor, whose resigna tion became effective August 1st. Rev. Taylor resigned in order to further his education at the Baptist Seminary at Wake Forest. The people of Dunn’s Rock are fortunate to obtain a local preacher for pastor here, since Kermit is a Dunn’s Rock boy, we feel that he will do a worthwhile work as pas tor of our church. I Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Tinsley, recent bride and groom. Mrs. Tinsley was before her marriage Miss Deb Holden, daughter of Erwin Holden, of Pis gah Forest. Mrs. Collins Gives Dinner On Sunday The sixth annual awards banquet 1 was held last Friday night at Camp j Sky Top with Nathan Miller, direc tor, serving as toastmaster. The dining room was attractive 1 ly decorated with mountain green ery and gladiolus. A color scheme of green and yellow was carried out in the decorations and menu. Entertainment features were a clog dancing exhibition and musi cal selections by the camp glee club. Awards for achievement in vari ous camp activities were presented to a large number of campers by Mrs. Julia Burke, head counsellor for the girls, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Segal and Jack Holt, head counsel lor for the boys. Eighty-five campers and 25 invit ed guests were present for the oc casion. Plans Are Made A group of officers of the Rosman chapter of the Future Homemakers of America held a workshop Wed nesday morning at the home of Mrs. S. C. Clapp, home economics teach er of Rosman high school. Plans for various activities and work were made for the new school year. Miss Anne Benson Priest, Tran sylvania county home agent, was a guest at the meeting. Mrs. Clapp served a luncheon at the noon hour. Officers attending the workshop were JoAnn Whitmire, president; Virginia Moore, secretary; Wanda Greene, treasurer; Marie Orr, song leader; Melba Whitmire, pianist; and Linda Cassell, reporter. At White Pine Camp Members of the Rosman Home Demonstration club enjoyed a pic nic at White Pine camp at the Au gust meeting of the club. In addition to the club members, guests present included: Miss Anne Benson Priest, of Brevard, W. L. Carmichael of Portsmouth, Va., and D. L. Glazener of Rosman. The Middle Fork Community club will meet at the center Tues day, August 30th, at 8 p. m. Plans for the fair which will be held Sept. 3rd will be discussed. All are urged to attend as this will be a very important meeting.
