Several Tips Given To
Ladies, Care Of Cotton
There’s no need to sprinkle
your cottons several hours before
ironing. A new steam iron sprays
steams, or dry irons as you wish.
Even a new father can be a
quick - change artist, thanks to a
new cotton diaper that snaps on
and off of baby.
When sewing with cotton cor
duroy, finish the seams by pink
ing. This prevents fabric from
shedding nap.
Contour cotton sheets stay neat
er .. . cut the time spent in daily
bedmaking.
If you’re just beginning to sew,
a basic pattern of cotton muslin
will help you with your fitting
problems.
Resin - treated cottons can
stand higher heat, both in wash
ing. than other wash-and-wear
fabrics.
Cotton hopsacking, a burlap-like
fabric which resists wrinkling, is a
strong newcomer in fashion this
spring.
Cotton satin, in white and pastel
colors, is a new favorite in little
girls' petticoats.
Dress up your ironing board
with a new gay print cover made
of color - fast cotton that won't
shrink. It will fit any standard
size board, and there's a choice of
four pastel colors or three print
patterns.
To restore sheen to cotton chintz
curtains, add a small piece of wax
(about the size of a walnut for one
pair of curtains) to a hot starch so
lution. Stir in the wax thoroughly
before dipping the curtains.

Towel Laundering
Care... T owel Beauty
TO KEEP your terry bath tow
els soft, absorbent and fluffy,
it’s important to launder them
correctly. Tests prove that
towel borders remain straight
and flat when given normal
laundering treatment “Normal”
means the temperature of water
should be warm — never hot,
(130° to 140° F.) points out the
Cannon Homemaking Institute.
In a washing machine, set tem
perature at “warm.” Use mild
soap or neutral detergent.
If terry towels are washed
in extremely hot water, there
may be a tendency toward
border shrinkage. The hotter
the water the greater is this
tendency. Excessively hot water
reacts on alkalies in certain
detergents and bleaches. This
causes cotton fibers and yarns
to swell and contract, so border
“puckering” and shrinkage may
occur. Too hot water may even
affect towel color, damage terry.
Be absolutely sure, therefore,
that you launder terry towels
in warm water and rinse well
