THE DEMOLISHED CAR above is the result of
. a crash over Lake Toxaway falls last Saturday
* night. The occupants, Guy Powell, Glenn Ilogsed
and Randall Fisher, were thrown out just as the
vehicle began its plunge down the 455-foot falls.
All three were treated for injuries at the local hos
pital and have been released. The accident occur
red around 9:30 last Saturday night, but it was
4:00 Sunday morning before the McCrary Auto
service, with the aid of members of the Rosman
Rescue squad and the Brevard Rescue squad and
officers were able to bring the car back up to the

Lions To Have
Program On

the Program at the regular
meeting of the Brevard Lions
club this week.
The speakers will be John I.
Anderson, editor of The Tran
sylvania Times and chairman
of the Recreation Commission of
Brevard, and Bill Edens, town
manager.
The meeting will be held at
the Colonial Inn Thursday
night, beginning at 7:00 o’clock.
Albert B. Morrison, plant man
ager of the Brevard Du Pont
plant, was the principal speaker
at the last meeting of the Lions.

Perry Speaks At Banquet
Honoring The Blue Devils
L. J. “Hap” Perry, the exe
cutive secretary of the High
School Athletic Association of
North Carolina, will be the prir
cipal speaker at a banquet hon
oring the championship Brevard
high school football team at the
Olin Mathieson Chemical corpo;
ation at Pisgah Forest on Mon
day night, Dec. 16th.
According to Charles L. Rus
sell, who is in charge of arrange
ments for the important dinne
meeting, trophies will be award
ed to the most outstanding Blui
Devils on the 1963 team.
The banquet will be held in
the Ecusta cafeteria, beginning
at 7:00 o’clock.
Company officials are high’
pleased to have Mr. Perry as the
speaker for the occasion.
He is recognized as one of the
most outstanding leaders in the
field of athletics in North C^o
lina, and he has the reputation
of being a forceful and dynamic
speaker.
Mr. Perry has held his present
post since 1948, and prior to
that time he was a prominent
high school coach for 19 years.
He also served as superintendent
of schools for 13 years and a
high school principal for five
years.
He was at Reidsville and Mt. <
Olive.
For some 20 years, “Hap”
Perry was a prominent referee
of college and university foot
ball games across the nation.
The First Citizens Bank and
Trust company will begin con
struction of an ultra-modern
building here immediately,
Lewis R. Holding, the presi
dent, announces today.
L. E. Bagwell, of Brevard, has
been named the general contrac
tor, and J. N. Pease Associates,
architects and engineers, have
completed plans and specifica
tions.
Henry C. McDonald, of Bre
vard, will be the supervising
architect.
The building will be con
temporary architectural in de
sign and will be of steel frame
and masonry construction.
The pre-cast concrete outside
panels will have a white quartz
appearance, and much glass
paneling, in amber color, will
be used.
According to President Hold
ng, the cost of the building will
ae in excess of $100,000.00.
The site for the building,
vhich is opposite the Brevard
aost office on South Broad
street, was purchased from Mrs.
jila Wenzlick, and the residen
ial building on it has been

Brevard Meets Reidsvilie In

ville Saturday to play the
Reidsville Golden Lions for
the Western AAA title.
Brevard will be defending
the title that they won last
year by defeating Greensboro
Bessemer at Greensboro in the
championship game.
Brevard and Reidsville will
clash in Asheville’s Memorial
Stadium at 2:00 p.m. Saturday
afternoon, and hundreds of
Blue Devil followers are ex
pected to be on hand for the
big play-off game.
The Golden Lions, coached
by former Wake Forest great,
Bo Sacrinty, bring a 7-2-2 rec
ord into the play-offs. They
whipped previously undefeat
ed West Alamance 18-7 last
Friday night to earn the right
to meet the Blue Devils in
the AAA finals.

forecast for the period ending
next Monday calls for scattered
showers totaling about a quar
ter of an inch.
Temperatures are expected to
average 57 to 62 degrees each
afternoon and around 37 to 42

This compares with the aver

for the past week.

Three Big Football Games
Will Be Heard This Week
Thanksgiving
Service On
November 27th
The annual community
Thanksgiving service will be
held on Wednesday evening,
November 27th, at 7:30 o’clock
in the Brevard Methodist
church.
This service of worship is
sponsored by the Transylvania
County Ministerial association.
The Rev. Alfred D. Rhyne,
pastor of The Lutheran Church
of the Good Shepherd, will de
liver the sermon. The Brevard
Civic Chorus will provide spec
ial music.
The Ministerial association
urges everyone to make plans
to attend this special service
of thanksgiving.
