Printer’3 measure Let Us Do Your Job Printing The Transylvania Times NOTICE OF SPECIAL GENERAL ELECTION To Be Held On Tuesday, January 14, 1964 in the STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA on CONSTITUTIONAL AMMENDMENTS NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN to the qualified voters of Transylvania County that the Special Session of the General Assembly passed an Act providing for this election. The Act provides that this election shall be held under the laws pertaining to regular general elections. This means that the registration books for this election will open at the precincts on the fourth Saturday before the election, which falls on December 21st, and the registration books will close at sunset on the second Saturday before the election, which falls on January 4th. The fol lowing Saturday, January 11th, will be challenge day. The amendments to be voted upon are as follows: 1. SPECIAL SESSION AMENDMENT. Consti tutional amendment increasing membership of the Senate from fifty (501 to seventy (70), pro viding for compulsory redistricting of Senate, and reducing number of Representatives from one hundred twenty (120) to one hundred (100). 2. REGULAR SESSION AMENDMENT. The constitutional amendments empowering the Gen eral Assemmbly to make the rights of husband and wife the same in each other’s separate prop erty. Under instructions from the State Board of Elec tions the following schedule will be followed: Saturday, December 21, 1963 Registration 9:00 A.M. to Sunset Saturday, December 28, 1963 Registration 9:00 A.M. to Sunset Saturday, January 4, 1964 Registration 9:00 A.M. to Sunset Saturday, January 11, 1964 Challenge Day 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Those persons now registered do not have to reg ister again in order to vote in this special general election. The polls for said Special General Election will be open from G:30 A.M. to 6:30 P.M. Lyday, Chairman Transylvania County Board of Elections Tax listing in Transylvania for ’64 began in Brevard and in the various townships on Thursday, January 2nd, James Breedlove, the tax su pervisor, announces today. All county taxes and farm reports must be listed in Jan uary, and penalty for failure to do so is required by law. Mr. Breedlove says that the books will be in the different townships through the 11th of next month, and they will be breught to the court house here after that time. The classifications on which ‘~x liability m::st be filed are: 1. Real estate and tanigible property owned on January 1st, 19G4. 2. Poll tax on all males be tween 21 and 50 on January 1st. 3. Lvday, chairman of the Transylvania County Bo?, -d cf Elections, today announced in structions for absentee voting in the special general election on constitutional amendments to be held on January 14, 1964. Civilians who receive their absentee ballot must find some official with a seal who is au thorized to administer oaths us ually a notary public. The vot er produces the container - re turn envelope and the ballots and in the officer’s presence ‘hen d^es the following: 1. Fill in and sign the affida vit printed on the container-re turn envelope. 5. Have the officer attest the oath by affixing his signature and seal. John Lewis Fisher has been on the sick list. We wish for him a speedy recovery. There have been several cases of mumps in our community. Paulette Fisher was badly disap pointed over having the mumps. She had invitations for herself and nine of her little friends to appear on television on “Monty’s Rascals” program last Friday, hut due to mumps they had to cancel their trip. We hope to get tickets for a later date when ail are over the mumps. Marlene and Gary Rickey, of Piedmont, S. C., spent last week with their sisters, Mrs. Sonny Fisher and Mrs. Gerald Whit mire.
