Greetings Are Extended From Oakland Area By MRS. I. S. SANDERS OAKLAND—We would like to send New Year's greetings to The Transylvania Times at Bre vard and to all our friends who read the Oakland news. Our community scent a very quiet New Year’s day indoors by the home fires, due to a heavy r* snowfall the night before. The loads were covered with snow and ice. Mrs. W. F. McCall had the mis fortune to fall on ice in her back yard and break an arm. At this time she is recovering very nice ly. Mrs. Anita Owen and Mrs. Dor othy McNeeiy appreciate the new cabinets recent!v installed for books in their Sunday school rooms at the Lake Toxaway Bap tist church. Mrs. Patsv Norton and two children, Debbie and Eddie, are spending seme time here with Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Norton. Due to illness in the home. Mrs. Elly Chappell and daughter. Mynia, were un»lde to attend Sunday school Sunday. Harold Bryson, of Brevard, visited his parents. Mr. ami Mrs. Harry Brvson and family Sunday. Clarence Norton took advan tage of the cold weather and killed his big hog for N.cw Year's. | Clifford Reid visited his sis ter, Mrs. Winnie Bryson, in Bre vard Friday. . Reid Watson, of Brevard, vis it ited his grandfather, Willie Reid, one day last wee k. .Mrs. Alberta Pctrikin spent New Year's Day with her aunt, Mrs. Mamie Fowler, at her home in Brevard. Bill Nicholson has recovered nicely over a case of mumps. Mrs. Emma Leo Fisher, i.i Houston, Texas, Writes home folks here that she had a family Christinas dinner and tree at her home there. The highlight of the day for her was the new guest, her first great-grandson. Ronald Glenn Ingalls. Mrs, Jennie Sue McCall was a dinner guest Sunday of her cou sin, Mrs., Alberta Pctrikin. Mrs. Leota Bryson visited her father. W. W. Reid, who is sick, one day recently. Mrs. John Lee Shook Succumbs |j Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Galloway Shook, age BO, of Glenville. were held Sat urday morning in the chapel of f the Frank Moody Funeral home. The Rev. F. A. Raines and the Rev. Jothan Brown officest id, and burial was in tiie Rock Bridge cemetery. Mrs. Shook died early Friday morning in the Transylvania Community hospital. A native of Jackson county she was a member of the Big Ridge Baptist church. Surviving are the husband. John Lee Shook: three son.-,, Edward Shook, of Brevard: Vaughn Shook, of Waihalla. S. (’.: J. C. Shook, of Mill Spring: five daughters, .Mrs. Roland Ashe, of Cullowhee; Mrs. Della Hunter, of Cashiers; Mrs. Minnie Owens, of Lake Toxaway: Mrs. Lawson Melton, of Sylva: and Mrs. Paul Owens, of Brevard: one brother, Hcxler Galloway, of Seattle, Washington: 28 grand children and 18 great - grand children.
