Two $65 scholarships for mus

“Roman Candle ” Set By

The Brevard Little Theatre
will present the comedy, “Ro
man Candle”, Friday and Sat
urday, May 1 and 2, at the
American Legion building.
Curtain time is 8:00 o’clock.
This modern, comedy written
by Sydney Sheldon and directed
by Pat Fuleihan is. set against
a military background. It fea
tures an array of army and navy
ranks, all of which are charac
ters in their own right. The
comedy is enhanced by a roman
tic triangle involving Eleanor
Winston, a sophisticated sena
tor’s daughter, Liz Brown, a pro
vocative psychology teacher gift
ed with ESP, and Mark Baxter,
a professor-scientist drafted into
the army for his knowledge of
missiles.

Here Next Tuesday, May 5th
The Lodge of Perfection of the
Scottish Rite Bodies of Asheville
will hold its visitation meeting
in the Dunn’s Rock Masonic tem
ple on Tuesday night, May 5th.
The temple is located on East
Main street in Brevard, and the
meeting will begin promptly at
8:00 o’clock.
According to F. Gudger Cabe,
the Venerable Master, buses will
leave the Masonic temple in
Asheville promptly at 6:00 p_m.
A free buffet supper will be
served in the dining room of the
Brevard temple from 6:30 until
7:30 o’clock, with the Asheville
lodge being host far the occasion.

comment was made about
‘•spring’s first dry week.” It
ended abruptly.
Spring’s first soggy week left
the town and county soaked and
in some eases all but water-log
ged, as a total of 3.2 inches of
rain fell.
Almost two-thirds of this total
was recorded on Monday of this
week.
Daily high and low tempera
tures were 72 and 42 when aver
aged out for the period, with ac
tual high and low readings for
the week a couple of 78’s and

64 Concert Schedule At Brevard
Music Center Expanded, Announced
Many Renowned
Artists Signed
For Appearance
The schedule of programs
for a summer of music at the
Brevard Music Center has been
released by Dr. James Christi
an Plohl. director of the Cen
ter.
The season will open on Sun
day. June 28th. and continue
through Sunday, September 6th
Appearing in concert will be
world-renowned artists, includ
ing Leonard Pennario, Jan
Pierce, Kuth Slenczynska, Aa
ron KOsand, Arlene Saunders,
Morley Meredith, and David
Lloyd.
Included in the program will
he two operas by the Turnau
Opera Players.
The membership drive for
the 1964 season is also under
way with Wolfgang Selle and
Mrs. Betty Killian as co-chair
men of the committee with
Eric Klein and Ray Childers.
Prices are the same as last sea
son. Patron memberships, two
tickets, are $100. Sponsor mem
berships, two tickets, are S50. A
single SDonsor membership, one
ticket, is $30.
Simultaneously with the
membership drive is a drive to
^aise $25,000 for the building
fund. This will help with the
construction of the new audi
torium which is expected to be
in use before the season is ov
er, and for paving roads and
parking areas.
“A Seat for a Song” is still
being offered to those who wish
to purchase seats at $25.00 each.
A brass plaque will carry the
name designated by the donor.
Dr. Pfohl, in announcing the
expanded concert schedule and
building program, states that
it is significant that emphasis
is being placed on the Brevard
.Music Center during National
Music Week, which is being

College Grant
A S100 scholarship to Brevard
College is being offered by the
Brevard Business and Profession
al Women’s club for the 1964-65
school year, to a Rosman or Bre
vard high school senior.
Applicants must have been ac
cepted at Brevard college and
must show evidence of character,
scholastic ability, intellectual
promise, demonstration of ambi
tion and leadership ability, and
need.

Lambeau room last Wednesday
evening, officers of the Brevard
Jaycees and Jaycettes were in
stalled and annual awards pre

association which was held in
Raleigh April 23 and 24, with
three Transylvanians taking
part in the program.
Miss Jeanette Austin, presi
dent of the W.N.C. Tuberculosis

symposium on reorganizational
structure of TB associations.
She appeared on the pro
gram with James G. Stone, exe- ,

al TB association; John P. Ken
