■■•nmmmnnn, .................g Brevard College News | (From The Clarion) Recital Shows Imagination The Modern Dance class held a recital Monday, May 15, in the gym. The class of nine girls had been studying dance under Mrs. Barbara Daye for a se mester. The girls all did an admirable job, and several dances were especially good. Marigay Lesh combined a bit of ballet and acrobatics as she danced to “Nightingale.” The most truly modern dance number was that of Linda Nichols. Her interpre tive dance centered abound a sacrificial offering. Several girls had quite catchy music, such as Janice Dele man’s “The Stripper” and Jen ny Munro’s “Peter Gunn Theme.” Patsy Crawford danc ed to the rhythmic tune, “Pa tricia.” Carol Clayton did an es peciallly good job of keeping to the fast tempo of her num ber. The costumes were all very colorful and imaginative. Judy Armentrout made a vibrant “Girl from Ipanema,” while Sandy Lucas appeared as “A Summer Breeze” in flowing pink. Becky Burhans made a charming butterfly in green chiffon. After the individual numbers the class and Mrs. Daye did a group dance entiled ‘Teq uila.” The black tights and brightly colored shells added greatly to the effect. The audience was glad to do nate ten cents to Save-A-Child in order to see the entertaining and imaginative modern dance recital. Students Aid In Planning The student body is now be ing represented on various fac ulty committees, one being the Development Committee, with Mrs. Grace Munro, Chairman. This committee met with Mr. Henry McDonald, the college architect, student personnel in volved in the new building, and several student representatives —Kathy Wayant, Gregg Nelson, and Jenny Munro. The building under discussion was the Sims Student Center Building, which is to be in the old library build ing. The ideas bandied around in When you think of prescrip tions, think of VARNER’S, adv elude having a large “living room” area in addition to lounges, a small chapel, danc ing area, rooms for pool and ping pong tables, and a TV room. Also, it was suggested (hat the soda shop have a grill in it, and that the book store carry a selection of popular paperbacks. There will also be an outside door leading to the post office so that one can en ter at any time. An unusual feature suggested was that the flat roof be used as a sunbath ing area. The committee said that the ideas given by the student body were good. They will try to work in as many of these sug gestions as possible. Zumstein Wins Scholarship Nathaniel Zumstein, a Brevard College music major, was award ed a six and one - half week full scholarship to the Brevard Music Center starting on July 2. The scholarship given by J. P. Stevens, Inc., is not the first for Nathaniel since he attended the Center in 1965 and 1966 un der various scholarships. Na thaniel, who played with the Asheville Symphony this past winter, won the scholarship ov er thirteen others for his per formance in piano and violin at the East Henderson High School. They Hunt Workers Third Floor of the Classroom Building has had some interest ing and unusual guests lately. The students are beginning to wonder who ^ ucal. The latter part of last week, Mr. Settle of the Federal Bureau of Investiation (FBI) was looking for qualified secretaries. Last year Kathy Washman and Gail Jones accepted positions with that organization, and he was looking for more like them. Mr. Brackett of the State Department climbed up the stairs this week on the same mission. And then, there are also the representatives from local firms, who are always checking BC for secretarial help. Mrs. Munro says, “Every time I hear a phone ring or an un familiar footstep on the stairs, I wonder who is needing a sec retary. It is a privilege to help place well - qualified students-” KEEP YOUR RADIO DIAL SET AT 1240 WPNF Brevard, N. C. News & Weather every hour on the hour. Weather at 27 minutes past the hour.
