A Statement By Brevard’s Mayor And Board Of Aldermen On The Coming BOND ELECTION On SAT., NOVEMBER 18, 1967 As Officials of the Town, elected to represent your best interests, and being very fa miliar with the needs and finances of the Town, we are of the firm opinion that: FOR THE PROPER PROTECTION OF YOUR FAMILY AND PROPERTY, AS WELL AS THAT OF YOUR CHURCHES AND SCHOOLS, AGAINST FIRE, AND FOR YOUR TOWN TO HAVE A FAIR CHANCE AT CONTINUED GROWTH AND PRO GRESS, YOU SHOULD VOTE “YES” FOR THE BOND ISSUE WHICH WILL ALLOW US TO BUILD A MODERN COMBINED FIRE STATION AND TOWN HALL. The proposed building has been designed by competent Architects in Accordance with requirements of the N. C. Fire Insurance Rating Bureau. It will have all of the proper Fire Fighting Facilities and Space Needs for Town employees and equipment, to take care of Brevard’s needs for many years to come. And — AT NO EXTRA COST TO YOU. DO NOT BE MISLED by the legally required wording on the ballot, which author izes the Town to levy and collect a tax for repayment of the bonds which must be sold. TAXES WILL NOT BE INCREASED. \ Experience has already shown that income from our ABC Store will pay for enough Town expenses for which we have been levying taxes, so that the necessary pay ments can be made on our bonds WITHOUT INCREASING THE TOTAL LEVY. You have already learned from the “Facts” sheet passed out by our Volunteer Firemen and from the Transylvania Times, that a “NO” vote would cause our Fire In surance Rates to be increased. We have checked Insurance Rates in the “N. C-. Rule Book” which is kept in all Fire Insurance Agencies, and found that this increase could range from about 11% to 30%. A great deal of money in Insurance Costs is involved in the coming election, but more important is the opportunity to get our Town facilities out of the Horse and Buggy age, and assure ourselves of being able to KEEP A FIRE DEPARTMENT TOGETHER. OUR VOLUNTEER FIREMEN as well as the Fire Insurance Rating Bureau, HAVE BEEN VERY PATIENT. We sincerely ask that you give us your active support in this MOST IMPORTANT PROJECT. Signed Raymond P. Bennett, Mayor Walter W. Duckworth, Alderman and Mayor Pro Tem Robert L. Johnson, Alderman Dwight Moffitt, Alderman David Norton, Alderman ; ■ • ' W. David Sams, Alderman
