Methodists Having Mission Study On Sunday Afternoons Members of the Brevard Meth odist church are now having a Mission study each Sunday af ternoon at 8:00 o’clock. This is followed by supper at 8:00 o’clock, and the last ses sion ends at 7:30 o’clock. Classes are held for for the nursery, primary, elementary, Junior and Senior high and Adult groups. VALUE Excellent quality Excellent savings during EIGHTIETH YEAR Boy Scouts Of Troup 703 Now Taking Marksmanship Training Boy Scout Troop 703, spon sored by the Brevard Davidson River Presbyterian church, has been receiving marksmanship training for the last three weeks under the direction of Commit teeman John W. Eastes and James Brown. The object of the training, according to Mr. Eastes, is to >teach the scouts the fundemen tals of marksmanship, using U. S. Army sighting techniques, the proper use of weapons and weapon safety. Upon completion of the indoor phrase of the work the scouts will have an opportunity to fire on an outdoor range. The troop also recently had a campout at the , Cross Tree Farm near Boylston, on Janu ary 27th and 28th. The following Scouts under the leadership of Scoutmaster Dick Gustafson made the trip: William Loftis, George Perkins, Brad Palmer, Marco White, Ed win Rice, David Hayes, Wayne Miller, Robert Johnson and John Gustafson. Future plans include an over night campout at Camp Daniel Boone on February 17th and 18th with special attention on hiking and mapping. In addi tion, plans are now being made for an overnight canoe trip and the regular summer camp at Camp Boone. Scoutmaster Gustafson an nounced the enrollment of Steve and Mark Willis into the troop the past week and also has in vited any boys age 11 who are interested in becoming Scouts to meet with him at the regu lar troop meeting on Thursday nights at the Presbyterian church or call him at 883-3870. Professor Roy Has Program At Henderson P-TA Meeting By Hester Hansen SAPPHIRE - WHITEWATER —^Professor Ed Roy of Brevard College shewed pictures of his recent trip to the Holy Land at the T. C. Henderson school P-TA meeting Thursday evening, February 8th. Mrs. Mary Smallwood presid ed at the meeting and Mrs. Dorothy McNeely led the de votions. Mrs. Ada Parker’s class won the grade count this month. It was announced that the neiw sign for the school is be ing made by the boys of the bricklaying class at Rosman high school. Refreshments were enjoyed at the close of the meeting. This community expresses its sympathy to the family of Wood Hinkle, Sr. who passed away Saturday after a long ill ness. Mrs. Alice Flowers of Spring Lake visited her daughter and family, Mrs. Ann Thomas and tn, Connie and Butch, for several days while Miss Connie recuperated from last Thurs day’s tonsillectomy. James R. Felts, Jr., executive director of the Hospital and Child Care sections of The Endowment, said 191 hospitals are receiving $1,369,960 and 43 child care institutions, $646, 115. North Carlina’s total is 1901,608 for hospitals and $428, >91 for child care institutions; South Carolina’s, $468,442 for hospitals and $217,724 for child tare institutions. Brown BALSAM GROVE — The Shoal Creek church folks met at the regular time for Sunday school and preaching was at 11:00 by Rev. Bunion Kilpatrick. He is one of the oldest ministers of the county. He is 89 and reads without glasses. The Balsam Grove communi ty dub is putting a new roof on the center which was badly needed. Mrs. Pearlie McCall is doing some better with that broken arm that has given her so much trouble for over four months. Unde Elbert Owen is still a very sick man. Tinsley Brown of Balsam Grove and L. V. MoCall of Bre vard went to Florida last week to see L V.'s sister wbo is very sick and to visit other friends down there. It didn’t seen! like Florida up here this morning.
