Girl Scouting IN Transylvania By Mrs. Fred Reiter Public Relations Representative Timber lock Day Camp, which serves Girl Scouts in Transylva nia county, opened on Mon day, and it will continue until Friday, August 16th. Transportation to and from the site at Cove Creek in Pisgah National Forest is by char tered bus. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, girls will be in camp from 9:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. On Thus day, girls wall remain in camp until the ckose of the Campfire program that evening. All parents are invited to at tend the Thursday night pro gram from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Brownies will plan .to leave with their parents on Thursday and will not return on Friday. Juniors, Oadettes, Seniors and Day damp staff will stay over night Thursday, and leave by bus around noon on Friday. Over 200 girls are registered for Tisnberlock. In Hie past months the ad ministrative staff has worked diligently to recruit and train volunteer leaders and make the necessary arrangements for op erating the camp. The staff con sists of Director, Mrs. Lewis E. Herron; Assistant Director for Administration, Mrs. Don Cul bertson; Assistant Director for Program, Mrs. Warren Cline; Registrar, Mrs. Charles Bruner: Business Manager, Mrs. Wilburn Davis and Health Supervisor, Mrs. Molly Kilpaitrick. • * * The only active troop news is from Troop 448 of Cedar Moon tain, under the leadership of Mrs. Kisamore. On July 12th, this troop toured the Times and WPNF. Eleven girls made the tour. They were: Brenda Bishop, Tammy Bishop, Diane Kisamore, . Debbie Kisamore, Donna Logan, ‘Ameran Skerritt, Charlene Smith, Kay Corn. Carol Logan, Gail Corn and Rene Smith. The home is a beautiful oM house built in the 1860s and occupied by members of the Gordon family until 1953 when it was sold to the Girl Scouts. Also in Savan nah is the Low home, which Juliette Low occupied until her death. Him home is owned by the Colonial Dames but the car riage house was given by Mrs. Low to the Girl Scouts for their meeting place. The Low birthplace is filled vvi.th artifacts of the period as well as many of the personal possessions of Mrs. Low when she was a child. All Scouts who tour the home are entitled to wear a special “pin,’ which shows a “Daisy” against the green of scouting. All interested persons are wel comed and especially Girl Scouts. If you are ever in the vicinity, do plan to see this. It is only about a Miour drive from Brevard! Several News Items Are Reported From Rosman Area SAN ANTONIO — Airman Gerald W. Burdette, son of Mrs. Betty J. Bennett of 117 Dogwood Dr., Brevard, has completed basic training at Lackland AFB, Tex. He has been assigned to the Air Force Technical Training Center at Fort Belvoir, Va., for specialized schooling as a vehicle maintenance specfal ist. Airman Burdette is a graduate of Brevard Senior High School. His father, Way mon L. Burdette, resides at 9703 Linkmeadow, Houston. Homecoming A successful Homecoming was held Sunday at Zion Baptist church. The Rev. Cameron Holley, the paster, preached at the 11:00 o’clock service. During the af ternoon session, the Rev. M. E.
