PAGE SIX The Transylvania Times THURSDAY, AUGUST 22, 1968 Miss Anita Dorothy Bur hans. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Burhans of Brevard, and Earl Stevenson Earn hardt son of Mr. and Mrs. William Earl Bernhardt of Rockingham, were united in holy wedlock on Saturday, August Mith art 4:00 p.m. in St. Philip’s Episcopal church, Brevard, The Reverend Edsel L. Keith, rector, officiated in the double-ring ceremony. Music was furnished by Lloyd Dur ham, soloist, and Douglas Wauchope, organist. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a floor length gown of candlelight French net over peau de soie with Wattau neckline. The bodice was apipliqued with Alencon lace and scattered with banquets of lace to the hemline. The net coat with train was circled with a deep border of Alencon lace and the long pointed sleeves were accented with re-embroidered lace and tiny self-covered but-, tons. Her shoulder length veil was of ivory illusion with loco applique trim. She carried a bouquet of gardenias and white rosebuds. Miss Becky Burhans of Greensboro College was her sister’s maid of honor. Mrs. Brenda Costanza was the ma tron of honor. The brides maids were Misses Debra and Diane Amine, twin cousins of the bride, of Camp Springs Maryland. They wore identi cal floor length empire gowns of organza in pastel shades with satin ribbon ac cents. Hie headbands were of daisies and small attached veils. AH attendants carried nosegays of white and painted • daisies to match their attire. ' Misses Christine Whitaker, Beverly Howard, Betty Car raway of Charlotte and Miss 1 Kay Reinhardt of (Hickory were honorary bridesmaids. They wore street length dress in pastel colors and carried bouquets of tuberoses. Mr. Michael Reinhardt of Asheville was his brother’s best man. The mother of the bride chose a pink dress with mat ing coat, and the bridegroom’s mother wore a deep pink silk suit Their corsages were white rosebuds. Following the ceremony a reception was held in the Par ish House. Assisting were (Mrs. Spencer Maicfie, Mrs. Fred Southerland. Mrs. Jack Smothers and Mrs. Mabel Al derman. The bride’s book was kept by Miss Martha Rogers of Winston-Salem. Following their wedding trip to Nassau, Mr. and Mrs. Barrthardt will reside at 732C. Sedgefield Apartments, Char lotte. The bride attended Mary ville College and is employed by Indian Head Yarn com pany in Charlotte. The groom attended Taririe College in1 (Missouri and is a graduate of (Western Carolina University where he was a member of (Delta Sigma Epsilon. He taught and coached at Bre vard Senior High last year and will be a teacher and foot ball coach in the Sedgefield Jun ior High school in Char lotte this fall. Amine, Camp Springs, Maryland; Mrs. {Blanche Ballard, grandmoth er of the groom, Kannapolis; (Miss June Raynor, lakeland, (Florida; Mrs. Michael Barn hardt and daughter Angela, of Asheville; (Mrs. W. D. Shields, Elizabeth City; Mr. and Mrs. .Thomas Galloway, Charlotte; Mr. and Mis. G. E York, Ashe ville; Mr. and Mrs. R. D. (Davis Hendersonville; Rev. and Mrs. Thom Williamson (Decatur Ga.; (Mr. and Mrs. (Frank Sawyer, Jr., Columbia, S. C.; Mrs. Frank Sawyer, Sr., Orangeburg, S. C. and Mr. and (Mrs. Byron Howard, Jackson ville, Florida. Several events honoring (Miss Burhans and Mr. Bam hardt were held prior to their marriage. On July 27ith, Miss Burhans was given a kitchen shower at (the home of Mrs. Mabel Al derman. On August 2nd, Mrs. Eaton Roberts, Mrs. Timothy Mur ray and Mrs. Tracey Walker honored Mss Burhans with a linen shower. Ms. Robert T. Gash and (Mrs. Lucian Deavor honored' Miss Anita Burhans and Miss Vicki Caidiwell at a luncheon given at the home of Ms. Gash on August 3rd. The Auxiliary will hold (their regular monthly meet ing on Monday evening, Au gust 28th, at 8 o’clock at the Legion Hall on Jordan street Flans will Ibe formulated for their membership drive, as well as a joint covered dish supper with the Legionnaires. Also, "The Country Fair” by which the members plan to aid their general fund, will Ibe discussed. Pisgah Forest Homemakers Hold Meeting The Pisgah Forest Home Extension dub met August 13th at the Pisgah Forest Community Center for their annual picnic combined with a workshop. Mrs. John J. Brown, the president, presented to the dub notes from the county council concerning the achi evement day and the “out-of county” tour for the dubs. A delicious luncheon was enjoyed by everyone. Mike BL Kirby, one of the vista workers in Transyl vania, stopped in and visited with the dub. He gave an interesting and enUgbtning talk. Miss Peggy Williams, the Girl’s State representative, will be ithet guest speaker. It is hoped that a large at tendance will be present for this important meeting to help in planning the future activities. Hostesses for the social hour will be Misses Opal and Helen Pulbright and Mrs. Mitchell Neely. Bridge Winners Are Announced Winners ait the regular du plicate bridge game of Hie Ace at dubs this past Tues day evening were the follow ing pairs: 1— Mrs. Doyle Wells and Robert M. Colwell. 2— Dr. and Mrs. George Dy sart. 3— 1Mrs. M. F. Johnson and Mason Buck. The monthly master point game will be played this com ing Tuesday evening. Saturday, August 17th, in the Fred W. Synunes Memorial Chapel. The (Reverend G. Daniel McCall, pastor of the Brevard Davddson River Presbyterian Church, performed the cere mony. Music was presented by Miss Sharon Richards, organist. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a semi fitted A-line gown of candle light satin featuring a shaped back hemline and French em broidered lace yoke In bade and front. Bell shaped sleeves and a lace cathedral train ac cented the gown. Her bouf fant veil was attached to a cluster of petals encrusted in pearls and crystal drops. She carried a nosegay bouquet of white bafby chrysanthemums and miniature ivy surround ing a white orchid. Miss Marilyn Blayne Cal lender, sister of the bride of Cedar Mountain, was maid of honor. She wore a floor length dress of yellow silk crepe, with empire waistline and a yellow bow matching headdress. She carried a nose gay of California Daisies. Bridesmaids were Miss Janice Cook, sister of the groom of Brevard, end Miss Sharon Ashworth, cousin of the bride, of Knoxville, Ten nessee. Their dresses were identical to that of the maid of honor diaries Steward Cook, father of the groom, served as best maq. Ushers were Thomas (Dellinger, brother-in law of the groom, of Char lotte, Lee Callender, brother of the bride, of Atlanta, Ga., and Wallace Brittain, cousin of the groom of Henderson ville. The bride’s mother chose • blue dress made of shantung sink for her daughter’s wed ding, and she wore a white orchid corsage. The mother of the ffoom wore a tight (blue silk dress and a white orchid corsage. A reception was held at the mmmaam Cedar Mountain Community Center immediately following the ceremony. Assisting were Mrs. J. R. Widclifif, Mrs. Claude Jones, Mrs. William Logan, Miss Rita Skerret, all of Cedar Mountain; Mrs. Curtis (Lane of Decateur, Ga.; Miss (Denise Barnwell of Asheville; Mrs. Thomas Del linger of Charlotte; Mrs. Frank Martin of Franklin; and Mrs. Ghandon Ashworth of Brevard. Miss Anne Cook, sis ter of the groom, kept ithe brides book. The bride is a 1988 gradu ate of Western Carolina Uni versity with a 8. S. in Bi ology and Education. She was secretary of the Delta Zeta Sorority at the university. She will teach at Hand, Jr., High school beginning in Septem ber in Columbia where the couple will make their home. The groom is completing his final year in (Pharmacy at the University of S. C. He is the president of the Kappa Psi fraternity at the universi ty. The rehearsal party was entertained with a buffet dinner given by the grooms parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cook, at their home in For tune Cove. A yellow and white color scheme was carried out. Some 25 guests attended. Wu, WcQui" -And m. mcjt Miss Clara Catherine Mc Guire, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph McGuire of Bre vard and James Cecil McCall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira C. McCall of Balsam Grove were married on Saturday, August 17.th. The ceremony was held at 2:00 p. m. in the Symmes Me morial Chapel at Camp Green ville with the Reverend Tom my Owen officiating. A pro gram of wedding music was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Fletcher. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of empire style made of Peau de soi with lace ap pliques. Her bouffant veil was attached to a coronet and she carried a white Bible topped with a white orchid. Mrs. William Raines, sister of the bride of Greenville, S. €., was matron of honor. She wore an orchid dress wlch empire waist With, matching bow and net headpiece and carried yellow long stemmed carnations. Miss Nina McCall, sister of the bridegroom of Balsam Grove, and Miss Brenda Sen telle, of Brevard were brides maids. Karen MCGuire of Raleigh, niece of the bride and Darla Bell of Balsam Grove, niece off the bride groom were junior brides maids. Their dresses were identical to that of the hon or attendant. Paul Aiken of Balsam Grove served as best man. Ushers were Author Aiken, Jr., of Pisgah Forest, Robert and Tim Raines, of Greenville, S. C„ nephews off the bride, and Daryl Bell off Balsam Grove, nephew of the bridegroom. For her daughter’s wedding, Mrs. McGuire chose a light blue and white suit iwith blue accessories and a corsage off white carnations. The grooms mother wore a navy blue suit with white accessories and1 a corsage off white carnations. A reception was held follow ing the ceremony in the home of the brides parent. Assist ing were Mrs. Don Brown, Mrs. Ortwin Goede, Mrs. Howard Galloway and Mrs. Rot 'rt !L. McGuire. The bridesbook was ktipt by Mrs. Richard Phillips. The bride and groom are both employed at Olin Mathie son and will make their home at 812 North Broad street, Brevard.
