(Times Staff Photo) National Observance To Hold Tea And Open House At The Hospital On Friday In observance of National Hospital week, the Transylvania Community hospital will hold a tea and open house on Friday of this week. Under the sponsorship of the Hospital Auxiliary, the tea will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 o'clock in the afternoon. Tours will be conducted during that time. The public is most cordially Invited to attend. Beginning at 10:80 in the morning on Friday, classes of school children will be taken through the hospital This will give them a first hand opportunity to learn how a hospital functions. According to John Bailey, ad ministrator of the hospital, the theine of the week is “Your Hospital Cares”. “We want to emphasize at this time that your hospital does CARE and we stand ready to meet today’s demands for health care. We are also pre paring to meet the increasing demands of tomorrow," Mr. Bailey declared. Readers of this week’s Times are also urged to note the spe cial editorial on hospital week, which is carried on the edi torial page in section three. Throughout the year hospital staffs in more than 7.000 hos pitals across the country work unceasingly to provide high quality care for those in their communities. Much of this work is accomplished without fanfare or recognition- In fact, the gen eral public rarely thinks of the needed. ' But once a year National Hospital Week provides a time In 34th Year Music Center Receives Grant Of $20,300 From NYC Foundation The Brevard Mule Caster of Brevard hu received a grant of $2*,30« from the Rockefeller Foundation of New York City for the initi ation of a new program In talent identification hi music. Now in its 34th ?ear 6f op eration, the Brevard Music Cten ter is the oldest institution of its type in education and per formance in music in the South. Its annual Brevard Musk Festi val which runs for seven weeks during July and August is one of the major cultural series in the nation. The program which will he initiated by the grant will concentrate on the identifica tion of significant high school talents in music who can be trained to serve as student teaching-aides in emerging music programs in selected school systems of the South east Bach student selected will receive a full scholarship for one season’s attendance at the Music Center. Various fol low-up programs will be in stituted after the summer sea son. The basic purpose of the pro gram are to aid school music programs in solving shortages in specialised teaching person nel and to encourage significant talents to stay in the music pro fession. The current program is experimental in nature and is funded for one year. The operation of the pro pram has been arranged through Converse College of Spartanburg, South Carolina with which the Music Center is affiliated. Statewide Recognition Local Jaycees Win Awards At State Convention In Charlotte Brevard Jaycees received state-wide recognition for their local projects at the Jaycee state convention in Charlotte hut weekend. Reports of projects from Jay cee chapters across the state were Judged and first, second and third place awards were presented at the awards banquet on Friday evening at the Char lotte Colliseuin. The public is most cordial ly invited to the Dedication, which will be opened with a band concert by the fine Bre vard high school band from 1:45 until 2:00 o’clock. Mayor Baymond F. Ben nett and the Board of Aider men extend this cordial invi tation. Highlighting the Dedication will be two addresses: one by Congressman Roy A. Taylor from the 11th Congressional District and the other by Lieutenant Governor H. Pat rick Taylor. The program will open with the National Anthem by the band at 2:00 o’clock. Offi cials of the Monroe Wilson Post of the American Legion and the Lewis Earl Jackson Post of Veterans of Foreign Wars will then raise the flag. The Invocation will be by Rev. Robert A. Davis, presi dent of Brevard College. Mayor Bennett will wel come guests and introduce guests. He will also' high light progress that has been made in Beautiful Brevard. John I. Anderson, editor and general manager of The Transylvania Times, will serve as master of ceremonies on the program. Rev. B. W. Thomason, for mer Mayor of Brevard, will give the benediction. After the program, the pub lic will be taken on conducted tours of the building, and re freshments will be served. Town officials are delighted to have Congressman Taylor and Lt. On May 16th Schenck Job Corps Center Observes Fifth Anniversary Commissioner Working Toward Completion Of Upgrading Of Highway From Brevard-Rosman A report of the Highway committee of the Brevard Chamber of Commerce was made to the directors at Tues day night’s monthly meeting by REALTOR WEEK, celebrated here and throughout the nation May 17th through May 23rd, was official ly noted here when William Leon ard, above left, local president of the Brevard Board of Realtors, present ed a copy of an outstanding new book to Mrs. Lehman Kapp, right, librarian of the Transylvania County Library. The book, “Under All Is A The Land", is beautifully composed of many outstanding color photos and facts dealing with the use of “our land” here in the United States. Mr. Leonard urges all who will to take time to come by the library and see the newly written volume, which is truly outstanding. (Times Staff Photo) Ralph H. Ramsey, the chairman. Mr. Ramsey told the directors that the committee had met recently with E. J. Whitmire, the Highway Commissioner for this area. Mr. Whitmire advised the committee that he hoped to have a public hearing on the proposed protect for the im provement of U .S. Highway No. 64 from the end of the Lake Seea Rridge west to Rosman by July 1st. He explained that there are now two public hear ings required by the U. S. Pureau of Public Roads, and that this would be the first one with the second one to be fol lowed within a few weeks after that. He thought that following these two hearings it could not be too much longer before this stretch of road would be let to contract. In the meantime, engi —Turn to Page Three The Sehenck Job Corps cen ter in beautiful Pisgah National forest will observe its fifth an niversary on Saturday, May 16th, with a celebration at 4:00 o’clock. While the Job Corps program was brought into being by the Economic Opportunity act in 1964. Schenck opened its doors for the first time on May 18th, 1965. The Center, in cooperation with the Department of Labor, is operated by the United States Forest Service under the De partment of Agriculture. The Schenck Civilian Conser vation Center is a community of voung men between the ages of 16 and 21. Its purpose is to give young men a chance they could not find in their home com munities, a chance to improve their education and obtain job skills in order for them to fit themselves successfully into the economic life of the nation. The program helps the Corpsmen to help themselves. In so doing, it helps the nation as a whole. National Radio Month is celebrated. The nation pays tribute to the thousands of ra dio stations across the country, large and small, which daily entertain, inform and serve the public in various ways.
